Try swapping the old intake back on... I bet it will fix it, just my guess... -

Did it ever do this before you swapped the engine? Which intake did you use? The one from the parts car or the one from Jess's car? -

If I may suggest, look at a 2004 WRX... since the 2005's are coming in maybe the deal will be a bit sweeter. If you are concered about the RS being old ladyish swap on a WRX hood with someone who goes FMIC on NASIOC.com -
So far, the stories are false

Y'all still have nothing on the northwest... at my Fiancee's grocery store she works at, there are any given time at least 5 subarus in the parking lot. usually parked in a row too  There are 7-8 delivery drivers at my pizza place, 3 of us have white subaru wagons (88 GL, 95 Legacy L, 02 OBS) -

Most yards dont allow cameras... thats why I couldnt get pics of the setup Think of a normal 85 GL interior... but where the vinyl is, is black and where the cloth is, is red.... there is a pic out there somewhere... -

mounting gauges on A-pillar
Flowmastered87GL replied to The Scooby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well since the impreza 2 hole fits... there MAY be a 3 hole one that fits.... hey if it doesnt you could always sell it to someone on NASIOC for their impreza -

A gen 1 Impreza one fits pretty well... thats what got put on corkys 86 GL-10 sedan for his temp guage I know... the dual pod one has a bit different fit because at the bottom it comes straight down for the triangle at the front of the window, but when your door is closed you cant see it. -
Just cause it blows smoke doesnt necessariliy mean the heads are screwed... COULD be a head gasket or intake gasket... maybe you will get lucky when you open it up and get it all inspected...

Mudrat got 1st place in his turbo sedan in Open class I dunno what I got, my throttle cable broke on the first run so I had to fix it, then got a re-run then 2 more... nice dry track for me, but with no ability to floor it my times kinda sucked (at least compared to John, he was running 4-5 seconds faster than me per lap)

My 87 is carbed... but my RA in college had an 87 with SPFI... I think in 87 it was something along the lines of A: CA models were EFI and 49 state were carbed or B: Carbed first half of the year, then the 87.5 was SPFI... My guess is A though. -
Thanks Craig (GLCraigGT) we got the flywheel and clutch off, did the rear main seal and put on the new clutch and everything. the engine is now in the car and the only things to finish up as of now are: 1. Fill with fluids 2. Attach fuel line to weber 3. Bolt on exhaust/install gaskets 4. Bolt on engine mounts 5. Plug in alternator 6. Install belts 7. Swap XT seats back in

You wouldnt be saying that if you saw how I slid the engine on the tranny It took me quite a while of jiggling it and eventually I just let the hoist down and picked up the front of the engine and slid it back enough so I could get the bolts started. I was kinda scared of braking the disty, so I was trying to jiggle the rotor off, I didnt feel too comfortable just pulling straight up. Thanks alot Craig, the engine is now in the car and the only things to finish up as of now are: 1. Fill with fluids 2. Attach fuel line to weber 3. Bolt on exhaust/install gaskets 4. It looks cosmetically like an 87 to me... has XT seats, and ya looks like someone really tried to make it something it wasnt. At first glance I thought it was a blue "rx" -
82 Brat's Unite!!
Flowmastered87GL replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
82 GL, 142K (66K on engine) pretty much bone stock (well until I bob it, lift it, weber it, legacy seat it and herculine pretty much everything on it) Got it for $500 because it needs alot of rust fixed, but the frame looks halfway decent, its just the firewall, rockers and bed that suck. 3rd eye is there but I need to fix the wiring for it because it doesnt work. Its currently being used as a pizza delivery unit -
Here's the deal, my fiancee Shannon is recovering from surgery so she really isnt in a position to help me wrench in the garage right now. I want to try to run my 87 GL in the rallycross on Sunday. But... I need to finish my engine rebuild and that means the clutch and the rear main seal need to be finished still. That means I need someone to hold a screwdriver in the flywheel while I break it loose or someone to turn the breaker bar while I hold the screwdriver. I will offer beer and or pizza for any help! I know some of you are down early for the rallycross in Hillsboro and I am not far from there... from the fairgrounds go East on Cornell Road to 185th. Go South to Canyon Rd. Turn left, go East to Murray Blvd, turn right, go a block, turn left on Farmington, I'm afew hundred feet East. (Cornell Road MAY go straight to Murray, but I forget...) I know my other directions work for sure. I should be home around 7-8 PM from work and will be wrenching until the car is done! My # is (503)526-2997 if anyone out there is willing to lend a hand.

Its urgent because I need to get the car done for the rallycross on Sunday! I have the engine reassembled, the intake on... BUT... I cannot get the stupid orange rotor off the disty shaft. It is NOT like the one on my 88 where there was a setscrew to hold it on.. It just snaps on or something... anyway I cant figure out how to remove the old one, and looking at the new one doesnt help either... it looks like it should just slide on and off. Its the disty type where the cap clips on with 2 clips (kinda like an SPFI or MPFI airbox). Its not the screw on cap... In the Chiltons its the 1981 and up 4WD disty I think... I will also possibly need a second set of hands to change the clutch, see thread in meet and greet

88 SPFI 4WD Code 34
Flowmastered87GL replied to Flowmastered87GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Strange thing... I used the AC on the car (its cold!! woo hoo) and the idle is normal now... I even drove it around the block and it has power now too. I also cleaned out the EGR plunger thing, it holds vacuum from what I could tell playing with it by hand. The light is still on, but on 88's do they have an EGR light that comes on every 60K or does the check engine light come on with an EGR code? I looked under the dash for the egr connectors too, but couldnt find em... I've done what I can, the car is almost perfect now, but I think its time to throw afew bucks to Richie and his dad and have them get rid of that stupid light!
