  1. I just pulled the code from my 88 GL which has been idleing too low and been kinda sluggish. The code was a 34 from what I could tell 3 long flashes followed by 4 quick ones The ECU codes page says its an EGR silinoid or circuit problem Would a stuck EGR explain poor idle and kinda sluggish performance? And also when i pull the oil cap when running i swear it sounds like the tailpape (the oil filler spout!) What should I check? Just yank the EGR thing off the back of the intake and check its operation? Just swap it out with a junkyard one? There arent the little hoses coming up from the exhaust ports on each side like on hitachi models, as far as I can tell the only EGR things on here are the little 90 degree elbow on the passenger side (head to intake) and the big plunger type thing on the intake (also on passenger side rear) Any comments or suggestions??
  2. your 87 is probably carbed right? The most performance can be gained by custom exhaust and a weber 32/36 carb. If you have 13" steel wheels, get some 13" alloys to save on unsprung weight. Lighten the flywheel, shorten the shifter, theres tons of things you can do.
  3. If they are snow tires there is a very good chance they will bump you to open class. Regardless of the tread. Quite honestly, open is the most fun, its hard to compete sometimes, but if you can push your car hard you can beat cars with tons of mods (Zap and his more or less stock Impreza with good tires is an example) Having used to run with street tires and then changing over to snow tires last season, I will say the snow tires are way more fun! Its more of a point and shoot ordeal than slip and slide like the street tires were.
  4. No club associations yet: Not lifted yet, but the PK 3/3 lift is in the garage boxed up ready to go on when I have a hand installing it and my 87 GL is out of the garage, but I will be lifting my 82 BRAT, bobbing it, and maybe experimenting with armoring the rockers a bit. They have rust on them now, but it will be fixed, ive thought about using angle iron of some size down there, havnt test fit anything though... just seems like it would help to keep the rockers nice and pretty (and give a stronger jack point on the body) Probably gonna have open diffs, and its going to be sold when its done even though it runs good.
  5. I dunno what you are doing, all I know is this thread made me have some strange dreams last night... one was Ken made this thing into a 4 door BRAT... when I woke up I thought, why would he do that, it would hurt the breakover angle... I am guessing something is being done to drastically increase the suspension articulation though.
  6. Hmmm I guess the clutch in my 88 GL wasnt that bad after all
  7. Dual carbs on yours... are dual carb setups fairly common there? Care to export afew sets?
  8. since my 87 overheats... I know where I'm getting a stat when I rebuild it in a few days thanks for the comparison pic... I never knew there was that big a difference.
  9. Try moving the lights to UNDER the bumper... then they will be aimed along the ground and away from peoples eyes moreso than before.
  10. Yep thats a brat, looks like a DL (the lower model) as there are no fun tops on it. Or did you guys even get the fun ("T") tops over there??
  11. Swap the auto for a 5 speed... you can gain all sorts of performance there!
  12. Are the lenses clean? Loyale headlights really do just.. well suck. I swear my impreza lights put out like double the light of the ones on my 87. Hell even my BRAT has better lighting now that I replaced the burned out passenger head light with a halogen sealed unit. If the voltmeter is at 14V or so then its just normal crappy headlights. Otherwise maybe electrical problems somewhere (when my alternator fried once it was fun to rev it up and I could see EVERYTHING!)
  13. I just did the manual cookie and temp internet cleanup. I had to reset the computer 2-3 times while doing it because it couldnt handle all the files. I dunno how many megs of crap was in there (I forgot to check), but there were alot of files!
  14. Mines getting there, I am taking it to my brother to get updated/cleaned soon... I crashed 2 times just logging on to the board
  15. I run 4X in gears 1 and 2, then smack the shifter back to FWD during the change to 3rd. Just so you remember... low pressure = more rolling resistance... in 4WD you wont really NEED the traction of low pressure, so consider raising the pressure way up... the 4WD gives you the traction, the high pressure makes for less drag
  16. Remove the drivers side kick panel (afew plastic screws) Under there should be some green and I think.... blue? connectors. There should be 3 of them total. 2 are plugged in and 1 is loose. Basically you unplug the 2 and plug whichever end fits into the one that was previously loose. Example... blue and green are together. unplug and if the greens mate up, plug them in and leave the blue loose.
  17. When I installed my Accel 2-3 years ago I had to re-do the bracketry on it. I had to tighten up the fit and use a different hole (so the diamater was smaller)
  18. Did you play in 4WD at all?? (PLEASE make sure all 4 tires match first!!) Its fun to launch it at 5000 RPM in 4WD... gives you an even better start
  19. Careful with twin turbo setups... most of those will only fit in postal legacy wagons, not normal cars. If you want simplicity get a 2.2 liter engine. If you want performance get a 2.0 or 2.2 turbo.
  20. Of course its a keeper, to some its a holy grail! When did you get that XT? That wasnt there when I picked up the GL-10 seats...
  21. Grrrr the board ate me post!! Anyway I say saying I would go with the OD green rattle can route. Just get 10 or so cans from Andy and Bax on Grand Ave. That should give you enough leftovers to fix battle scars. The stuff blends VERY well and its hard to see where you touched up (I painted my brat over afew days and it all looks uniform) If you want to see how my brat came out and the texture of the paint just ask, or drop by Milwaukee Dominos (off of HWY 224) and see it for yourself
  22. Depending on which year of XT you get your seats from you may need to mess with them a bit. I had to have the brackets redone on my seats from an 88?? XT GL 2WD. It coulda been an 86... not sure. I know XT6 seats are supposed to bolt right in, but the ones I have sure didnt. I had a shop redrill and modify my EA82 wagon rails so that I would retain all the height adjustment and stuff in the drivers seat.
  23. Chirping the tires is easy on a carbed EA82, its just keeping them spinning thats hard... unless its raining
  24. Dude, you gotta swap that whole black interior over to Jess's car... it will look sweet
  25. I used sealant on the manifold gaskets. I just decided to leave the car parked and drive the brat instead... putting a couple thousand on a brat with 140K isnt too bad... it will only be for 2 weeks or so (til the 88 is done) Boy my insurance company is gonna kill me (had the 87 insured, then the 98, then the 87, now the 82)
