I hope you stopped to strip the Loyale of any useful parts:D Who's digicam did you use? I ask because I need pics snapped of the Wheels in your garage Jason (preferibly of the silver ones since you can see more detail on those than the black ones) -

Yep I used to live in The Dalles. These cars only have like 73 HP so dont expect TOO much, but if it has a very old catalytic converter that may be starting to clog up... at some point maybe consider a newer more efficient one if you ever go to a freeflow exhaust. (come to portland for an exhaust... trust me... my one made in TD blew up in 1 year) The weber carb is worth it, you may be able to order a kit at The Dalles Auto parts or find a used one at the local yards... (though the yards in TD are expensive) The throttle coil I belive is referring to the little coil on the carb which opens and closes the choke. Its supposed to give you a high idle when cold and then when the coil heats up it turns the car back down to a 7-800 RPM idle. 400 miles is awesome... Ive never gotten better than 330 or so on a tank. With a weber, you can probably get even better mileage. If you ever need parts talk to Bobs 6 star auto service (I think he is on 7th street between Kelly and Washington).... look for the mint bluish green brat I would suggest though: Weber carb and a different muffler. Then you would have more power, a correct idle and better mileage. -

Good, Cheap CB sugestions?
Flowmastered87GL replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I really like my antenna where it is, I used a fender mount (mounts under the hood then extends up and over the fender... hard to explain but really simple when you see it... the mount was like $5 at radio shack) I then tied the 8.5 foot steel whip down with parachute cord so it doesnt "trim trees" Yes I actually would see small branches falling behind me when the antenna clipped low trees at 40 MPH I dont tend to snag it on anything now... though the antenna still can bounce around enough to smack the roof here and there (nothing like trying to catch air into the driveway of work) -

Hmmm maybe its better that you dont know what my blingin' CB cost in the GL.... It was like $190 for the Cobra 148 NW ST (its top of the line though ) Then afew bucks more for the 18 feet of coax to run to the antenna (I am ALWAYS told to run 18 feet for some reason) Then like $25 for the fender mount, spring and whip antenna My CB actually works TOO well.... I get alot of weak signals that I have to use the squelch to close out. -
gonna take the pink martini down to meet the parents in The Dalles today... hopefully the Columbia River Gorge isnt that bad... If it is... I get to play with my 4WD

2 core radiator?
Flowmastered87GL replied to $J-MoNeY-$'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If the check from Insurance is big enough... my 87 is getting one of those!! -
the 28th.... its nowhere near as bad as calebs... the core support where the fender mounds looks to be back 1/4 inch.... I can fix that with a BFH... the bumper is bent... I can install andrews black bumper from his wagon and give him a white replacement (since Moon silver is IMPOSSIBLE to find for my car)

87 GL 1, Civic 0
Flowmastered87GL replied to Flowmastered87GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I dont know it if really matters.... my $32 repair idea will not make the car like it was, it will just make it FAIRLY presentable again. But by no means bring it back 100% I am going to fight for a value around $2000 for the car simply for the fact that the car is at heart a 93K mile GL (93K on engine, and new everything else pretty much... so to recreate a car this nice I would either have to start with a 274K POS ($500) and put on new parts, (costing around $1500) to recreate a car very similar to mine... and thats not including stuff like the rims, CB, seats, shifter, and the 6 years of receipts (in a HUGE envelope) But still good advice... -
More to add: It has new timing belts, plugs, wires.... basically a 60K service done to it. Also has a $250 CB setup and a retrofitted Impreza tape deck (show em the dealer price on an impreza tape deck... that may change their mind....) I figure a dealer would ask like 1500 for it, and with all the mods that could bump it up like 500-1000 depending on where you get em. The odometer may read 274K, but in its heart the car is still 93,000 miles young And a 1987 GL with 93K goes for $2685 Other than occasional dieseling due to the weber, I feel it drives like a GL with 93K, so thats the number I am fighting for

He he, the exact same rims that my brat is getting... but I am gonna paint mine flat black That pic of the right rear looks kinda funny... its it just the angle or is the wheel kinda forward of the center of the wheel well??? :cornfuzz: -
Ok insurance wants to total out the car... I want to get all the money I can before I buy it back.... The car: 1987 Subaru GL 4WD 5 speed Dual range Calmaster rims, 50% tread on tires, XT seats ($150 back when they were rare) $100 short shifer, 93K on engine (since birth.... 35K + 58K that ive put on it) NEW $385 redline/weber setup (about 10K on it), New freeflow exhaust system $400+, 10K on it) The car has PS and Pm... no power windows or locks... The interior is in pretty good shape, the paint is very shiny, it has a dent in the liftgate and a small dent in the rocker of the RR door. Personally to me the car is worth $2000-2500 Oh ya... its rust free
