Seriously, its almost like people don't know what chemestry or age is.

You don't have to go custom tranny. There are hundreds of options for SBC's out there. and a LOT are 5 speeds. plus getting a driveshaft made costs around 100 bucks. If you're worried about 100 bucks you shouldn't be doing the swap in the first place.

On the older BMW's I worked on we'd rip the carpet up and lay down new universal carpet and shape it. The old carpet weighed in at 42 pounds. The new universal carpet was 16.

Another issue on the road to fixing stuff. Checked my transmission mounts...good. look a little to the left and notice the crossmember isn't touching the car. weird. so I go looking further and find out I can lift the transmission and the crossmember goes with it. Turns out there's a good 1.5" of gap between where the bolt bottoms out on threads and where the crossmember SHOULD be...I can't find this part anywhere. WHAT DO I DO!?!??! The only thing holding the motor and transmission from falling back is the stabalizer bar/dog bone. Scary as all be! I'll post pics soon!

I do the same thing. Never had any bad experiences with them or wrong parts shipped to me. Just make sure to double and triple check part numbers and know what you're doing and it goes smooth as butter.

So I thought the sender was broken, turns out its just not plugged in! problem is, I have no idea where the body harness is!! Instead of spending a lot of time pulling the tank and all I'd rather just re-wire it into the cluster myself. does anyone on here know what goes where on the plug???

more crappy updates!!! So Now I have no blinkers, no radio, and no power windows. Fuses are getting no power. Alt is at around 13.7 same with battery. Anyone know of any main connectors I should look into? possibly behind the dash?

its not the main power supply. I'm getting 13-14 volts to the gauge and radio, hazards, interior lights, highs and brake lights all get perfect power. something is loose somewhere.

Thats pretty funny. I feel like the car was a 1k car. needs issues fixed. but nothing terribly wrong. new crap I need to fix. What accelerator cable do I need? I see 3 on rockauto but I don't know which one I need as they're all slightly different. 1986 GL 1.8 carb 4x4 wagon.

UPDATES!!!! ok, still can't find the source of the issue. Now I'm banking on it being a power supply problem somewhere behind the dash. I've gone as far as pulling everything but the actual dash out to find the problem and still can't.....so next step is possibly pulling the dash BUT I ghetto rigged the running lights in so I'm good for now. All relays are working fine for now. Will be posting more found issues in my thread.

my hazards are on top of the column and I'm just about to wire my tails to a switch(fused) and be done with it. I really feel there's a power problem. Probably an old wire/connection that's corroded over. somewhere behind the cluster. tomorrow is my first day off so I'll pull it then and see what I find. My #1 concern is not getting pulled over. I'm tired of it. lol. btw, do you guys mean hazards as a parking switch? if so the hazards work. perfectly.

that was very very helpful!!! I think my left headlight relay is out. I have those exact symptoms(+ the tailights not working, but at least I figured out the dash issue)

Fuse six is getting power and I have no parking switch to speak of. Also the blinkers went out today so I know thats the relay. no clicks or lights. I swear I just want to rip out the entire dash and burn it all.

ok, really need help. I'm working all evening shifts and I can't figure out wtf is going on. all fuses are fine. its a 1986 GL 4wd. headlights and brake lights all work as well as turn signals. I'm driving blind every night and this is illegal but its the only car I have. anyone have any ideas at all????

Still no fuses blowing on my end. Stock radio and I have no switch on the steering column that you speak of. Anyone know where those relays are? Also anyone have a layout for the radio wiring harness? I'm trying to wire my new radio in and figure its a good reason to take a look at the rats nest under there and try to figure out wtf is going on with my lights.

MOMO and BOSS both make one, but they're really hard to find.

yupp. They used to only have black, but I really wanted to do army green. So my friend showed me that they did different colors. Total cost of the tape, rollers, paint, and paint mix was 31 bucks. Going to buy a pack of chalk and hang it from the front or rear tow hook and let people have fun at meets and such.
