Just finished putting a 'stat in my 84 turbo wagon. You really want to spend the $22++ dollars to get a Subaru original 'stat. Very big difference in size of opening and much heavier construction. Much like my four way bypass and cow valve. Priceless !! Alan- 8 replies

Fan Switch, 84 Turbo Wagon
mgcwrnch replied to mgcwrnch's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Have run the Saab fan right now thru what the stock electric fan wiring was. Comes on when the thermostat opens up at temperature. Then keeps the temp down at a uniform level. Should be relayed, protected and running thru a 30 amp fuse as the factory set up. Yes, will not have it running all the time. Thanks for the input !! Alan -
Removed both orginal fans. Installed a Saab 12" electric where the original electric fan was. Which is best ?? Wire so fan comes on with ignition, there for runs full time, or wire thru new fan switch in raditor so fan runs when hot enough ?? Saab fan moves a lot of air. Alan

Read all the advice on my overheat problems. Many thanks for the help. Bot a Subaru stat today. No comparision to the after market, or the one I took out of the Turbo. Size of opening, size of spring wire, diameter of heat element. Worth the $22.++ paid for the "original". Took out the fan clutch and its fan. Installed one fan from a SAAB. Had to trim the support arms, but went in fine.

Fan Clutch seems to be shot. How do the four bolts to the water pump come out ?? No room to get wrench at them. Remove radiator, alternator, take out engine ?? Bruised hands need to know !!

Any one have a good match to the original white on the spoke wheels ?? Seem to be a bit off white to an Almond, but haven't found any threads. Alan

After much help from "The Guys" here, the wagon is a jewel. Two relays under the passenger carpet, I finally found them, were rusted to death. Replaced from O'Reillys. Still would not idle. Tach would bounce, then would stop running. Yes, it was the Dizzy. Worn upper bearing. Had it machined out and replaced with an oilite bearing, watching all tolerances. $3.58 at a bearing supply house. Friends work was a freebie. :-))) Pic of the installed Oilite. Now to pass California smog test. Quart of Lacquer thinner in tank, should clean out old gas and gum. Alan

84 Turbo Wagon, no injector click
mgcwrnch replied to mgcwrnch's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Found the answer !! Relays under the passenger seat, under carpet were rusted beyond function. Replaced both from Oreillys, at half the NAPA price. Plugged in, started up !! Runs fine. Just needs a little limbering up. Thanks to all that helped. -
84 Turbo Wagon, no injector click
mgcwrnch replied to mgcwrnch's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Did not find any relays or anything under the passenger seat or drivers seat. Do find two relays in engine compartmant over the passenger front wheel. Are these for the fuel pump or injectors ?? Cannot identify from manuals. Found no relay near the fuse block, only the seat belt relay, silver, round, having four pins. Any help or clarification ?? Sure would like to hear it fire up !! -

84 Turbo Wagon, no injector click

Could not figure out how to pull codes. Disconnected the plug, nothing came up that showed codes. -
New to the forum here. Had BRATS, now a Turbo Wagon. Given to me, with not to much input from PO. Trying to get started. Have spark, compression, sounds good on the starter. Fuel pump not running on key start. Does run with pressure when jumped. No injector click when on start. Checked fusible links, OK. Fuses OK on the ignition on position. Where should I look for a relay or other item not working ?? All help really appreciated. Alan Chico, Ca
