I've got a 97 Legacy L (2.2) with 128K and I love it. No mechanical problems whatever. I've changed timing belts at 60K intervals, changed water pump at last belt change, and run Mobile 1. It had one recall (alternator) that dealer took care of (Courtesy Subaru in Rapid City---EXCELLENT service!!!). No rust (it stays outside 24/7) even during SD winters. Average gas mileage (I track it with a spreadsheet) of 26mpg.

Hella makes a GREAT horn and it comes with wiring diagram/relay. It's been posted here several times. That's how I found out. Go to Susquehanna (sp?) Motorsports. It's about $65. -
Mobil One

What about Valvoline synthetic? I'm considering the switch in my '97 legacy (115K). Are Valvoline/Mobile 1 the same? Comparable? I've used Valvoline 5W-30 dino up to now. -
My 97 Legacy has a plastic bracket (about 2 in wide by the length of the plate) that attaches to the plastic "bumper" wih two expandable plugs. When I attach my plate (using my own SS screws) through the plugs, it expands and holds it to the "bumper." As far as I can tell, there's nothing behind the bumper. It's held up well for me--even through car wash brushes!
