Backwards because technically speaking a higher perch would compensate for a lower mount. Thas just my 2 cents
-
Since modifying a post from my phone is a pain and going rounds saying the same thing different ways back and forth is moot, I usually don't trust Wikipedia but it's something to read besides bad pics of an old college report lol http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

Uhm AKI resistance to compression before detonation, you get better performance from high compression engines using premium cause the fuel doesn't explode before spark Some states still use MON as well as RON it was a east coast west coast thing, Washington is AKI (RON+MON/2) where I get gas all along the I-5 corridor there is the 3 values at the pump mid is a mix of low and high at the tanker. Well cept for the Auburn area... you can get Trick Racing fuel.
-
Octane... RON MON AKI... bleck... In all actuality there is only 2 different octanes, mid grade is a "dealers choice" mix from the tanker. Ethanol is used to increase the compression value of well sh*t fuel. I run premium in anything over an 8.7:1 compression ratio. Just my 2 cents and sorry guys my numbers were apparently JDM
-
And another speaking by the numbers... EA82+EA71 Crank+Spfi Pistons+Boost=how long till it explodes? Going by main bearing journal size btw I don't know if the fitment within them is the same

I've just been flipping through a fsm I didn't call anyone out, that's what he came off as. I didn't suggest someone run out and buy anything, just theories. I've been speaking by the numbers this entire time and get treated like some 16 yo ricer punk with no knowledge of stociometrics. Read through my posts it was questions in the first place.

M44 Mosin for 78 Brat w/extras
TallonX replied to TallonX's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Probly piss poor condition with a pitted barrel too, beridian pimers... my suggestion to you is always hose the rifleing with WD40 right after your done shooting. Corrosive primers suck but it'll help keep her shiny. Where you at so I get an idea of what the current values are elsewhere. -
M44 Mosin for 78 Brat w/extras

Lol yeah actually also the tool pouch oil can n multi tool era and rifle specific well not the sling it's for a 91/30 Suppose I should have worked the title better, there is a dude with a Brat interested in trading it for my M44 Carbine. How much you pay for yours? I got mine unfired cept for the arsenal sighting with the bayonet out for $75 -
Mad scientist moment... We all know flow is the major factor here so... Essentially your boosting an NA car but not lol Anyone ever see them "electric" turbos at the auto parts store? Basically you make the engine not have to "inhale" or not as hard anyway, dunno what kind of well lack of vacuum issues might crop up lol This wouldn't be forcing more air into the engine just tuned for optimum flow in. This idea would essentially work for any NA engine, just some time to work out the numbers and knowledge of electronics.

I've been saying by the numbers Subruise, I know the differences. I got a 00 Impreza and a 87 GLWag... I prefer the wagon honestly. Don't get me wrong the EJ is cool and all but 97+ (phase2?) lost their tolerance when they stepped away from HLAs But this is a thread about the EA, sorry to the OP don't mean to be rude

*shakes head A book that you can't get obviously I'm trying to figure out what makes the 88-90 heads different, ya know pick people's brains here... enter douchalong cassidy... There's an obvious performance increase in 88 then cuts again in 89 with the introduction of the EFC Lobe numbers are the same, installed valve spring heights are different... The only thing I can think of is the cam towers themselves are taller, but with that comes a pretty hefty redesign.
-
Just lookin for an opinion really, my rifle has only gone up (currently sittin at $450 on the rifle stock exchange) since I bought it. I personally think it's worth it... thoughts and opinions would be appreciated and yes the Brat runs drives as well as stops lol
-
Interestingly enough valve spring installed height on the EA82 from 83-84 was 1.48" 85-87 1.12" 88-90 1.98" To me this means the valves were longest in 88-90 increasing flow and duration can anyone verify the length of the valves? Been reading a lot of numbers and essentially the EJs are stroked EAs I know casting and the like is all different but by the numbers my theory is sound.

Strange thought... anyone ever consider lifting the intake any? Technically speaking of course raising it will improve the air/fuel mix especially if you swirl port it as well as lowering the intake temperature, thusly lowering the chance of predetonation and lowering needed octane (I run premium) also could retard the timing as well with the denser mix
-
Hard to phrase stuff this mornin lol bare with me here... Lookin at my book as the years went by 83-90 it's really a matter of the fuel management system. In 1988 an EA82T MPFI 115hp@5200rpm 181lbft@2800 this being peak in performance year for the EAs na SPFI being 84hp@5200rpm 137lbft@2800rpm A mandrel bent high rise intake would be a neat thing to see, fuel atomization is a factor tho. Had some numbers figured out at one point for using motorcycle carbs on an L6 now thas a 6 pack lol I've personally haven't had a belt issue or a headgasket issue weren't all subi's prone to that 120k gasket flaw? Owners manual says evey 50k for the timing belts but I suppose buying discount belts would slaughter that, currently sittin @ 70k on mine and they are still lookin close to new. I shift @ 5k no smoke and no ToD on startup 2433XX miles on the beastie.
-
Ya know it comes down to how you drive and where you drive... Mine's an 87 wagon carbed according to the book mines got a bit more oomph tho 82hp@4800rpm 92lbft@2400 EJ18 eem-mpfi 101hp@5400rpm 101lbft@4400rpm EJ22 eem-mpfi 130hp@5400rpm 137lbft@4400rpm Dunno about you guys but I prefer slow and grunty as I have drug several vehicles out of stupid spots... focus wagon stuck in farm ruts... jeeps high centered on stumps... but I'm also a mobile mechanic on the southern tip of Capitol Forest here in Washington. I get about 40 mpg, my buddies 00 impreza EJ22 auto equal miles on the clock gets about 30mpg. That being said the EA82 is a great lil engine and by the numbers is amazing for the power/weight, who needs to play need for speed down the freeway, i'd rather have bragging rights dragging something 4times my size out of a ditch with little effort.
-
Ej=pos after 96 Personally I've been thinkin of an ea81 swap into my 87 wagon But... if money was no object, i'd see about a redesigned head, dual port... none of that siamese bs, a redesign of the "wash tub" combustion chamber, possible single timing belt setup... awe hell just go rape a cessna XD
-
Since summer is upon us in the great state of Washington and I put a lot of miles on my car. I've been considering cooling upgrades, oil upgrades, and electrical mods. Since the ER27 is basically an EA, is the water pump able to be swapped? In which case is the oil pump able to be as well? How about higher amp alt swaps, there is a Nissan one that's easy isn't there?
-
Slightly off topic but... us in the states run what is known as the AKI (anti-knock index) for our octane numbers which is sm+rm/2 (research method + scientific method ÷ ) everywhere else runs the RM, I can't remember all the numbers but basically 98 octane elsewhere is the same as our 92 in the states Sorry didn't notice someone posted along the same lines as what I did already lol Oh as far as what is "required" fuel for older model subi's 95 octane RM according to the owners manual. Octane and timing do not go hand in hand... octane denotes how much compression it can withstand before self detonation. I personally have to run premium otherwise I diesel upon shut down, 240k miles on the beast too XD
-
Nothin 240k mi restore is good stuff figured i'd dump some in one of these times... just trying to clarify whether there is some "wet clutch" type plates in the front diff
-
Cool thanks, been thinking about dumping some restore into the trans... front is a LSD right? All gear on gear action? XD
-
Is the front diff dipstick telling me just the front diff or is it the entire transmission?
