  1. I hadn't either until a post on facebook. And then one day I was without a c clamp but had a caulk gun, so I proved yep it works.
  2. Flip it upside down over top where the line connection is on the back, and then the plunger will ride on an old pad. Its not the best way but it works.
  3. Takes me less than an hr to put pads on all 4 corners in a parking lot.. With a Subaru, all you need is a single wrench, brake grease and a heavy duty caulk gun to do the brakes.. You can use a c clamp or a brake piston compressor if you wanna get fancy. But a caulk gun works fine
  4. Interchangeable for the most part. You have to match suspension height. Some like your OB will have a riser on the pinch joint part.making the jack taller
  5. They have fake shifting out of manual mode. But its like driving a vehicle driven by a rubber band. It works but holy god its weird feeling
  6. I've deffinetly worked on 2011 Foresters with an FB or FA 2.5L. They are special and take a different oil filter for some reason 2012-current FB/FA otherwise take the same filter
  7. If I open them and put them right back, it won't hurt will it? I know the standing rule with Subaru A/C is they don't 'need' evacuated to work sufficently. But I don't want to buy a compressor till I know it's worth messing with.. I'm at 228k miles but only 10k of them are mine so it's still an unknown car really
  8. 2008 or 2009 got selectible shift but was a 'speeded' auto. CVT's came in 2010.. The FB 2.5L ( timing chain ) came in 2011 in the Forester and 2011 in everything else except Impreza went to a 2.0L version Mechanic is right. As far back as 2000 at least, the H6 runs a chain. The current H6's run a 5spd auto
  9. I'm not sure. I know the belt remements were stuck around the pulley when I got it and it had been there a while
  10. Yes. They are functionality identical but single port exhaust
  11. I would do that, except the yard has a strict 25% restocking fee. They cut me deals from time to time but they really don't like parts back
  12. Has been seized since I bought it. Winter wasn't bad but now its hot and this car just does not blow cool air from the vents like some do. Car part shows a 2001 Impreza going back to 1998 cars but 2001 forester only goes 2001-2002... Local place has both but Impreza listing brings up a $45 one, other is $65 for forester
  13. You could still have a blown master, if the seals are bypassing you will have a squishy pedal but it will be there. And both circuits should never fail completely because they operate on separate seals.
  14. If they shake, throw them out. If they don't, don't worry about it.. The manufacture of vehicle lists it usually, but its not normally a concern unless you want to machine them.
  15. You have an 06 so you have AVCS, so you need a 05-07 long block. If you need just a short block than I believe most blocks after 2000 will fit
  16. It was 0% full term when my mom bought hers in 2012. Thru subarus finance. Even if its not, your gonna get a much better rate new over used. The extra $3-5k it might cost will get absorbed with the better rate
  17. A base at $17k? A new one runs just $3k more give or take. You can get 0% financing most likely. Oil consumption is a possibility but its a covered warranty issue.. There pretty solid tho
  18. What filter was it? Depending on the filter book used, It may call for the wrong one. I do oil changes on these regularly and theres always oil in the filter
  19. at the house It was doing it with my spare key which has no fob.. Sometimes its not even locking, just clicking the relay in the box and I can hear it.
  20. My 2001 Forester locked me out of it at the gas station. Its good that the hatch does not lock cause that was my way in.. Same trip the locks began locking rapidly. Sometimes it was triggered by the headlights? Then it would lock when the door closed and arm. Fobb would disarm but not unlock.. When I got home I reset batt and it seems to be better but car still locked itself next morning. Can I install an aftermarket system using the original box connections? I see boxes are around $50 but this seems like a common issue with them, the grey button fob system I mean. I have an old audiovox kit that has never been used.
  21. The dual range transmissions are not hard to find from jdm importers but getting the shifters and consoles is pretty much impossible. Ea dual range shifters can be adapted but isn't 'right'
  22. I think the active valve system changed again for 2008. They both have it, but I think the '08 changes more. You can use the short block for sure
