  1. concern is loosing the rig to the water. I've seen it happen at the ramp and don't want to be 'that guy'. My dad launches his 18' starcraft Offshore 18 V with a 2013 Cheep Patriot 5spd, and he has to put the bumper in the water and roast the clutch to get it out. But he has been launching boats with smaller vehicles since I was in diapers. He's got a truck, always has one. But never tows with it anymore
  2. looking to downsize my DD. 2011 F250 is just too big, too expensive to maintain and operate. I can downsize to a 2010 Forester 2.5x with 5spd. I kno there rated 2,400 lbs towing and my boat is a classic 15' runabout. Well under 2k. I'm just concerned with launching. Always had a truck, and while I will get another older truck, the forester will have to do till I can afford one. The trailer is an old mastercraft trailer from the mid 50s, and the boat is a 1963 Custom Craft sea ray with a 650 mercury
  3. I dont remember how I got it. Swivels iirc. It was tight but accessible. I do know that I used a twist handle ratchet that you twist the handle to get a starting 'spin' usually, but it works to line the socket up nice
  4. seperator plate is super common. Reseal with ultra grey, or OEM three bond
  5. I'm a tire guy.. That's dangerous. See it all the time. Ends up a blow out and often de capped
  6. the ej22e is also non interference. Can run it till the t belt snaps if you really want to. Also there cheap. I gave $350 for a grade a engine with 110k miles
  7. I had a 99 sus and did same swap. 96 2.2 and all. I thought a 99 legacy sus or outback had a one year only ecu because of the phase 2 trans and phase 1 engine electronics
  8. the back window has to look right for me to do it. A factory looking mod. I noticed the newer roof isn't going to look right for me due to the curviture on top. An old flat roof legacy outback would look best.
  9. while at work I did tires on 04 outback. 900 lbs capacity. So with all the removed glass, interior and other weight, and the bed interstructure added, it might actually end up lighter. It would be cool if I could put 1\4 ton in the bed. Figuring 400 pounds for driver and passanger.. I'll just weigh it before and after, and subtract or add the difference
  10. It changes the book value to half. Lots of subaris get totaled and rebuilt but they become cheaper after, not more expensive.offer $3,500 and even that's generous. I'd offer $2,800 or walk of I were lookong
  11. that's a joke right?.. If its a rebuilt title, its worth 50% less than book, and even if it is not, there's no way that they can ask $6k. A finance company is only going to go retail plus tax so there looking at taking $2k less or cash deal, which is unlikely.. I'd offer $3,500 and tell them take it or leave it adding. U did not mention miles, but repairs do not equal more value. Often they equal more headaches. Subaru engine tolerances are very tight. Whose to say it WA rebuilt to spec.. If its over 150k miles, they are totally nuts, and if its under 150k miles, nothing should have gone wrong to require engine work, beyond head gasket weeping
  12. as a person who has done a lot of oil changes on beat Subaru cars. No oil on dipstick will generally drop 1 quart or so, and nothing out of the filter. Most of those engines have audible rod knock. We had one toss a rod out of the shop leaving owner stranded. But we note pre service oil check and noises.
  13. ill add that I have a mig welder, grinders flanging tools, a planashing hammer. As well as a whole slew of cutting tools... I want a modern Brat.
  14. the screw behind the connector works sometimes. Otherwise, solder on the broken connection works better
  15. Baja has too small of a bed for me to even bother. Not only that, there out of production so prices are consistently high. I want just a 2 seater with a bed. That's a little under a 6' bed without a tape measure or a car to look at. I was thinking the rear cab wall from a Baja for a factory appearance, but that would be a hard find and expensive.
  16. bI need a Subaru project. I really like the practicality of a truck. Own a 2011 F250 since I live on a small farm, it hauls the hay, firewood and livestock. But driving it to work every day is not that practical. But I dont need a 4 door wagon. A Ute would be perfect. It would be a 96-2004ish. Have to be 5spd which I would swap since I kno there rare in an OB. If older, it would also get a 2.2 swap. where is the structure in the Subaru? I kno most unibodies get floppy when you cut the roof off, but I want to cut the inside out of an old truck bed and section it to fit, and then figure out a rear window that looks right. I have the tools and skills, Just dont want to build a wet noodle. I want the bed to be usable. I was going to try to get an old Impreza for a commuter but its fed and owner wants more than I want to pay.
  17. 4.2 quarts, but add 4, start and check. 29 ft lbs on the drain plug. I never replace washer unless plug is trash. Just make sure to read the dipstick right. Its 2 sided and that's what the extra notch is for. That's full on the opposite side your supposed to read.. I do this for a living and I can do one in 10 mins
  18. I work in WalMart tire and lube express. Many fram filters I have taken out of the box have filter media broke free and rattling. Some come off cars that way. purolators are cheaper and better than the Fram. But I use OEM or wix... if you really want the fram tho, 3593A for the larger filter and the small filter is a 7317 or 6607 interchangeable, 6607 is shorter
  19. any 2012 or newer Subaru will use excessive oil due to 0-20 oil spec. You can tighten bearing clearances that much, but you can't keep it behind the rings. Subaru says 1 quart in 1,200 miles from new.
  20. its the transmission fluid on manuals, but same thing. Even has same dipstick. The autos have the diff sealed from the rest of trans
  21. yea I know I hijacked my own thread. I just want another now that I'm thinking about them. And didn't want to start a new thread.. If I can get it, it'll be a fun build and it will get its new thread
  22. now an off topic question. What is a mid 90s Impreza worth, not running and sitting a little less than a yr. Solid and looks to have brand new exhaust. Something happened to it and owner said it was 'junk'. It was not wrecked. I'm in a Subaru mood now and could use a commuter. I have the ej25d from my old 99 legacy but, the local junkyard is not short on old Subaru engine ad trans. I'm thinking a ej251 with 25d heads, and a 5 speed. I kno car is auto so do I need Impreza pedals or will legacy pedals and setup work? I kno the ecu needs a jumper for the auto manual swap owner is my neighbor and I wad thinking $200 offer
  23. I've got her convinced that she needs to find one that is stock. A tough task I know. I found her one, a 2002. Has higher miles but is stock one owner. Best of all is its serviced at dealer only and he will provide documentation. And the dealer he uses is not a long distance from hi, so I told her that if it checks out by me, then we test drive it down to the dealer and give them $100 to look it over for an hr... I can at least save her $100 by spotting obvious red flags. I have a good scanner so I can check codes and live data. Even force test emissions stuff.
  24. I did a 99 sus. Same car with outback suspension. I had maby 2,500 in it including a $750 purchase price on the car with a 2.5 that needed head gaskets l. I did a brand new timing belt, idlers, water pump and a brand new tensioner and new head gaskets on it just cause it was out. That was with a 1996 ej22e with 100k miles.. I also replaced cats and manifold with brand new parts. All my own efforts tho. They are not rocket science like shops will make you think they are.
