Heater won't get warm
Godsmulligan replied to Godsmulligan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok thanks, It's raining today so I can't check it out, but I think the temp/air mix door? cable came unhooked. -
I just replaced the heater core, I filled the core up through the heater core lines. I then burped the system. The thermostat is working properly and the radiator has been flushed multiple times with no visible rust. This was a problem with the old heater core but I chalked that up to a rodent building a nest on top of the heater core. It may not have been the entire problem. My question is, if I accidentally swapped the lines going and coming from the heater core, would this cause the heater core not to get warm. If it's not that. I guess, I must have a vapor lock?

The paint is far from done. I still need to fix a lot of dents and a couple more coats before I'm ready for the new Targa, but you get the idea. You can see where the new paint meets the old paint. It equals out in a couple weeks.

Finished painting the body today, only a few pieces of trim left to paint, man that is a lot of red. Reza was right I should of went with "Bratmobile." I'll post some pictures next week when it's all back together.

Thanks O.C.D. Here's a couple photos of it finished I stippled the paint job then sanded it with 400 and repainted to give it that vinyl look here it is in the cab with the seats back in with seat covers from Walmart. They will do until I get actual racing seats. Other than that I pulled out a dent in the back today, got the window trim back in, painted the window cranks and finished and installed the adapter plate for the cubby under the stereo. Now I'm tired.

Thanks, Mykeys Toy That Anodized red is turning out to be real junk. Not only does it flake off but it fades real qiuck. I'm hoping it's just the VHT and this other brand, I'm using now, will work better. I did get the seats, and windows back in no pictures of those yet, but i did swing by the junk yard for some parts today, including a new console to mod. That's plexiglass I glued on top I can't live without a cup holder. I was going to do 2 but decided not too. After working on it I think 2 would be easier to sand smooth.

Tire pressure question - 1992 Loyale Wagon
Godsmulligan replied to Helios 1's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I never check tire pressure, just eye ball it. If you're running them to low, you'll wear out the outside of the tire tread first. If you have to much you wear out the inside first. Never had any problems -
NOTE: do not use plasticote on anything squishy. Use vinyl paint on those. Plasticote reacts and makes them forever tacky. Plasticote still works great on the hard plastic. The key rule is, if you can scratch it with a screwdriver you can use plasticote, otherwise vinyl paint.

The carpet surprised me. It went in so easy and with the spray adhesive, formed to the floor perfectly. On top of that it looks great, and I think it's going to hold up a lot better than I originally thought. In the pictures you can see every wire hiding under the carpet. It's not like that in real life. I did glue the stuff down crazy good. I've had to pull it up in a few sections to and that wasn't an issue. So, when it comes time to swap it out it won't be a problem.

Got the carpet in today, really pulls it together. Also installed the mp3 mod for the stereo http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/123124-any-interest-oem-ea-radio-ponderings/

Easy Add Auxiliary Cable/Port EA82
Godsmulligan replied to JEBalles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If I'm not mistaken there is already a couple threads on this. I belive it's the white, black, and yellow wire off the pin you need to run to the audio jack. -

Ordered some carpet off amazon, $30. It's crap, no backing at all. I will have to use a spray adhesive to get it to stay in one place. Looks more like thick felt than it does auto carpet. At least it will form to the body easy. When it goes out I'll leave it installed and put the molded stuff over top of it. So far, I'm thinking molded for the win.

I couldn't tell the difference on the vinyl. I could tell a difference on the plastic. the vinyl paint is so thin that it's more of a stain. adheres great. The anodize paint on the other hand tends to flake off, not real thrilled with it.

The dash turned out well. It's satin black same as the car. Used plasticote. It seemed to cover better than the vinyl paint. I did have a problem with the door panels remaining sticky as a reaction to the paint. Not sure If I accidentally painted them with regular Krylon. Underneath the dust it looks brand new.

Not sure, first time I've done it. Does it have an Aux cable? I've heard the old clarion decks had some good power, so unless you are going to run high end speakers, I'm not sure you'll need an amp. It's a pretty small cab.

I don't use CDs anymore, so I'm just going to run the headphone jack mod off the back of the stock AM/FM, for my ipod then run 2 6x9s behind the seats.

Been working on the Brat every chance I get. Couldn't get the back window in, the gasket kept trying to rip . The inside is almost back together; dash, gauges, glove box, all the plastic except for the center console and the stereo. the new carpet came today, cheap stuff but it will work. Just need a pair of 6x9s, seat covers, floor mats, window cranks and a new steering wheel. The car is looking good. I was going to get some pictures today but got carried away. Oh well, I'll try and grab some tomorrow.

Let me tell you a story... When I was your age, I wanted nothing more than a Dodge Stealth and like you I had plans to get one when I got out of school. The reality was that when I reached that aged my record had more than 1 smudge and the insurace companies were wanting to charge me more than my payments on the car would be. I'm not saying the car payments were low, heck no. Every dealership wanted top dollar for a Stealth and each one had been used and abused to the point that it wouldn't last much past the dealers sidewalk before it blew. You might ask how the dealership could ask such high prices for crap, because lots of idiots will pay it. The question is, What did I do? I really wanted a Stealth, but I couldn't afford one. I bought used "sporty" cars I could afford that continually broke down and destroyed my wallet. What I should of done was buy an affordable new car. When all is said and done, I've never saved money by buying a used car. between car payments and mechanic bills, I've always ended up spending the same. I'm not telling you what you should do. I never listened when I was your age why should you. I'm just telling a story.

FIXED Went to the junkyard today and picked up a *relay for the fuel pump, a headlight switch and I was going to get the heater controls but when I started to take it out I traced the wires back to a plug by the heater core. I recognized that wire as one I didn't have hooked up. I didn't realize the heater fan hooked up in two seperate locations. Went home hooked up the relay, plugged in the new switch and attached the plug to the back of the heater core. It worked, fuel pump shut off, heater works on all levels. The dash lights still don't dim, it could be the switch from the junkyard was bad, but I can live with if for now. Time to put the car back together. Thanks everyone * thanks to a thread on here I found that the fuel pump relay is drivers side, behind the fuse box and attached where the hood release attaches. Of course it was the only relay I couldn't get unplugged when I was trying to track it down.- 16 replies
