  1. an aluminium can cut and wrapped around it held on by hose claps using JB weld as a gasket?
  2. I'll let you know what I find out as soon as I get a couple days off to work on it. Thanks
  3. won't hurt to check the timing belt... When my sister brought it over it was knocking very loud. Parked it, and let it sit about a week, until I posted pics on here. Then It wasn't knocking at all, so I drove it around for about 15 min before the knocking came back. About a week later we changed the oil adding a quart of power punch. I drove it around for about 30 min, the knocking was faint and only at high r.p.m.'s or when the engine was pulling a load. Sometimes when you let off the gas you would hear it, also. no metal flake in the oil. It sounds to me kinda like something is one of the cylinders. I've never heard a bad bearing, but I have heard the same sound in old tired engines.
  4. What can one expect from this event? ...and then I got slapped.
  5. I guess they've had 2 mechanics look at it. Both came up with the same answer.
  6. I'm not much of a mechanic, more of a body and fender man, but that's what I'm being told.
  7. I was thinking of dropping the oil pan and seeing if I couldn't slip one in. Worth a try, right? 99 legacy 2.2
  8. Here is a documentary I did, a long time ago, for school. I thought you guys might enjoy it. No that's not me. I'm behind the camera.
  9. so far, so good, anyway. thanks
  10. Tailgate painted... I'll post a set of all the components back on it in a couple days, maybe I'll even buff the paint out. I doubt it though.
  11. Here is the tailgate that I painted with Krylon. It still needs to be buffed and it has some dusty hand prints that could be washed off. Still looks a 1000x better than it did, and no that is not a dent. Rattle can baby!
  12. I'm using Krylon right now for that very reason.
  13. Thanks, I should finish painting my tailgate today, then I'll have a better idea how this rattle can thing is going to work. It can't be any worse than it looks now.
  14. Finished the body work today... Took more than I thought and it still needs more, but it's getting a coat of Herculiner when I finish the bed. That should cover up everything else. No more holes Here I cut out the cancer and welded in sheet metal, added fiberglass netting and resin, covered it in fiberglass body filler and topped it off with bondo. It's not as thick as it looks. painted the whole thing with Rustoleum and finished it off with satin black. letting it cure under the heat lamps over night before I paint the other side. The satin black is "rattle can" and the tail gate is going to serve as a test. If I like it the whole car is getting rattle caned.
  15. Think of this paint job as a band-aid. I need something to paint it while I'm working on it and I don't want to be driving around with splotches of primer on it for the next few years while worrying that I'm going to get pulled over for being a meth head. Their shouldn't be any problems with using rattle can? I can still repaint it later, right? The rattle can, most likely, won't cause a reaction with the new paint, if I primer over top of it, right... right? Stop freaking me out, people.
  16. Good call. That is exactly what I was picturing. Unfortunately for this endeavor, I'm going to be trying my first ever rattle can paint job. I've done actual paint jobs on cars, just never a rattle can one. I need something I can cover it with, go back and work on a section, then spray the section. This car has lots of work that needs to be done, and I want to still use it while I'm working on it. I'm hoping the satin will help hide the fact that it's rattle can without looking like a primer. Not to mention the satin kind of matches the faded paint. Fingers crossed
  17. How long had it been sitting? The problem may be a varathaned over carburator. I had the same problem on a bike that had been sitting, had to drive it a while before it cleaned itself out. Ask yourself these questions... Was it hard to start? Did it want to die? Would it die when you pulled up to a stop sign? If you gave it to much throttle would it spit and sputter? there is also a common problem with the old turbos, one which I can't remember. I haven't had to deal with it in a long time. Had something to do with the turbos getting to hot and cracking something due to their proximity to something else. Sorry, great explanation, I know.
  18. I hope the black satin looks good.
  19. I've always wanted a brat and when I saw this one for a couple hundred bucks I couldn't pass it up. As you may know I'm fixing the tail gate right now. Next is a satin black paint job. I have plans to out some tube bumpers on it a roll bar and a winch with an overhaul on the interior thrown in. I've already gave it a tune up, a new battery, replaced the rear wheel bearing, sealed the fun top, a new radiator sensor, rebuilt the brakes and fixed the throttle cable. It's going to be used for light off-road use like, hunting, camping, gold panning and driving cross country in the winter. So, it has to be dependable.
  20. Spent the last couple days adding fiberglass and body filler. I forgot what a pain in the rump roast fiberglass is. I didn't mix the resin strong enough so I had to recover it. Now I keep finding patches of pitch, it's awesome. It does work great on that cancer, though.
