  1. The rotor is not loose. I can unscrew the two 10mm bolts and lift the whole distributor up and drop it into a different gear bit I don't know what that will do.
  2. Swapped out fuel pump and filter to no help. Tried to start it and something made a pop sound in the fuel filter general area. Back to the drawing board. I did notice, however, when everything is zeroed in with the cams and all, the distributor rotor is pointing to the #4 cylinder rather than the #1 cylinder. Could this be the problem?
  3. That is what I am thinking as well. Payday is tomorrow and I will find out!
  4. Hello fellow Soobers, thanks for reading. A couple weeks ago, the belt on the driver's side went, so I towed it home and swapped it out. (Cursing my air conditioner the entire time.) Bought the kit and replaced both belts and pulleys provided. I had help from an old timer with Soobs, and followed Milesfox's video on timing belts which was extremely helpful. It started right up and ran like a champ. The following week, however, it started to have a very hard time starting. Now it won't start. It tries, but won't turn over. Everything still lines up as it should, and the belts are still tight. I have since just started replacing things that have been an issue on other similar threads on this wonderful site, but realizing now that I am wasting my money fixing things that aren't broken. I have replaced the ignition coil, pcv valve, distributor cap, spark plugs and wires. I believe its a fuel problem. How to Keep Your Subaru Alive is a great book that helps, except for EFI topics.... Any leads would be very appreciative, thank you for your time.
  5. I had this exact same problem with my 91 loyale. Blowing fuses immediately. My problem was a couple wires touching each other behind my stereo. Isolated them and never happened again. Hopes this helps!
  6. Hello, got some advice a couple months ago, but after replacing several front axle and bearing assembly parts, it was back burnered. My exhaust sound like a marble is rolling around above the front exhaust pipe right above the gaskets which i replaced. I hope I can post a vid on here... Any advice is much appreciated, I value your time.
  7. Great thanks! A bit off subject, my buddy was looking at it while it had been parked at a slight incline for about an hour. 10 secs after he left, with it still running from looking, I left w my kids in R going steeper up the paved hill, it bogged and a huge cloud of SMOKE came out from underneath, not the engine area. I popped it I N, coasted back down the incline quickly, E brake; still running, layed down looked and it was billowing for about 10 more secs, and stopped. The R upward made a ticking sound as well. I popped the hood and spare, checked the tranny stick and it was low. Ran to napa got some Lucas, I hope that's good, filled it bit by bit starting it up in between, it hasn't smoked since then, last Sunday. It scared the crap outta me, she seems fine, I have tested R since, getting it up there, but too scared to test a hill again.
  8. That is excaxtly what my buddy Todd Martin just told me yesterday! Two identical opinions from Soob owners with XP, time to turn some wrenches! Thank you for your time!
  9. Messed up on math. 325 mi per tank but I don't empty it every time, so I should consider it a 14 gal tank instead of the specs
  10. I live in Mount Vernon, WA state an hour north of Canada. I drive a 1991 loyale 4wd 5sp wagon. I get 20.44 mpg I think that's 8.69 liters per km 325 miles on a 15.9 gal tank 523.4 km on a 80.18 L tank...... Yeah I almost fill it weekly. (At least we didn't mess with the day measurements ) Yearly insurance - $632 USD Yearly Registration - $52 Every other month oil change - $18 One quart of oil in between - $2.80 (buddy @ Shell refinery) Every other year brakes - $38 About every other year tires - $160 @ $4 a gallon, I spend $11.54 every day to drive
  11. Dang you've done this before! Thanks for the advice, it will be back on stands tomorrow. I have never had a car this fun to dig into and find quirks! My passion is beginning!
  12. I would say rattling rather than knocking which I stated earlier.
  13. My Soob, which I Purchased 3 months ago, it's exhaust is concerning me. It is a really clean car, I am in LOVE! I just want to prolong the life of her. I I do lite offoading, since it is also my commuter. This is the problem. It knocks loud when warming up, and when accelerating. When warm, the noise dies down, and is periodic. I pinpointed the noise when changing the oil, noticing it on the passenger side of the front muffler assembly exiting the motor. Remedies? Replacement? I am trying to avoid purchasing a catylic converter, but the only parts found online include it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading!
