Do yourself a favor and pick up a set of sealed bearings. No more packing, no more nothing. Just bang in and call it a day. Same price as the puppies you picked up from NAPA, give or take a buck. Not sure what shipping'll be to Nebraska. It is my highest, recommendation. http://www.mcguirebearing.com/

I've been looking at that there saloon the past week. Still not quite sure how I feel about it. -For one, can't wrap my brain around convertibles. (Flipping a car'll do that to you) -Two, all that hearing "86" makes me think of is an AE86. -Different, in every way. -Three, very BReeZy. Very, BReeZy. Four, who knows what contractual partnerships have been made between Subaru and Toyota? The day a WRX is badged by Toyota'll be the death of me. In my opinion though, the WRX lost touch in '08. '02 Bugeyes - Forever in my heart.

HELP Brake issues with the 86 Brat
BoxerRebellion replied to 1986Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Bled as in "no bubbles whatsoever?" ...Or bled as in "...that should probably do?" Did the pulling to the left start after all of this happened? I sense a disk conversion in the near future -
Honestly... I'm not sure how long this one would've taken me without being told to... Flip the switch. ...That's one for the record books ladies and gentlemen. Thanks guys.

Oh, this is a fun one. ('87 GL Wagon) Was on a lunch break at work last week. Decided to hose the dust off the car. Finished up, shut the hose off, looped it on the loopy. Turned around and my tail lights were on. Baffled, I unlocked and opened the driver-side door, peered inside as if I was going to locate the problem, paused, realized... "****!" Long story short, it's been a week and it hasn't rained. If whatever got wet was going to dry out, it would've by now. (The fuse box inside the cabin is dry by the way) I found the fuse within the circuit, so I've been pulling it everytime I park. Now, there is a plethora of custom electrical work on this rig. Meaning, I'm asking for help regarding what it could be though things could be different. Fuse 4 seems to be the guy that stops the non-sense. What, I say what would cause the rear tail lights, as well as the front indicators to stay on, with the car off, keys outta the ignition? Thank you, thank you all in advance. -BR.

I was going to put my money on sticky calipers. Now that you know this is a possibility, keep an eye out.

pull transmission?
BoxerRebellion replied to Uberoo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Perhaps, ramps? -
Mr. Sarcastic, I was just going to bring up intake changes. Aside from having an intake note, which is either something you like or dislike, the amount of air an engine is receiving, or the way it's receiving it... Will change exhaust note. I have a Weapon-R intake. Accentuates (ooooh) engine noise going in as well as out. Though, it's worth mentioning that in order of operations, working with exhaust first is ideal. Engines can only take in, what they can put out.

No climate control
BoxerRebellion replied to BoxerRebellion's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
A/C - negative. Not sure how long ago that was taken out. Or rather, not installed with the twotwo swap. Basically, there's more than enough "custom" electrical jobs on this GL. Which makes jobs like this - somewhat of a challenge. I'm slowly going through the circuitry as problems such as this one, present themselves. The ground wire off the relay went into a bundle of wire and into the frame. I was like "NOPE! This ends here." -
Gravity. If I were you, I'd use a degreaser (kerosene being the cheapest) and a brass brush. Brass, as an extra assurance not to damage threads.

No climate control
BoxerRebellion replied to BoxerRebellion's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
AND.... THE RESULTS ARE IN. The brushes on the motor were toast. The resistor was visibly corroded and bent. Figured I'd replace the relay to have a "fresh" system. Multimeter testing the RELAY revealed - KEY OFF - BL/RD-12.7v | RD/YL-0v | GR/WT-0v| RD/WT-0v KEY ON - BL/RD-11.9v | RD/YL-11.5v | GR/WT-0v | RD/WT - 11.5v GR/WT is 12v power to the blower motor. RD/WT is ground. Now, if GR/WT it showing nothing. Yet RD/WT is showing 12v... That means the relay is not grounding, and therefore not closing to complete the circuit to the blower motor. For probable reasons of an anti-clutter world, Subaru has the blower motor relay ground going off into the thermostat circuit to ground there. So what do I do? Chop the wire as high up as I can, take the foot and a half of wire, ground it to the frame. Boom. GR/WT is showing 12v. RD/WT is showing 0. Blower motor comes on. Resistor controls current through the fan = fan speed. And the relay now clicks and operates as it should. Multimeters. Gotta love 'em. -
Never rule out the simple or obvious. I remember I had a '94 Legacy. Had the same symptoms as you're describing. (Freaked me out by the way) Turned out - It had a bad plug wire. Electricity was arching up the side of the boot. Replaced 'em and there-yeh-had-it. Start with what's easiest to access/diagnose. Work your way up that chain. Your check engine light isn't ON? (Not that it matters nearly as much with Soobs) If it is ON, AutoZone will run the codes for free. Sweet huh?

Puppy caught and ran for five minutes? Car ran perfectly before storage? Symptoms DO NOT point to your alternator. However, if the car cranked and ran for five minutes... What kind of death occurred? Did lights slowly dim as the car ran? Grab a multimeter and measure voltage coming from your battery as the car runs. I'm curious as to the results.

BoxerRebellion replied to gargrai's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Greetings dude. Sell the knock off (no offense) and pick up the vehicle by the company that started it all. Not a single car/truck on the planet can replicate Subaru's true AWD. That's a fact Jack. And you said it yourself, you've loved 'em since driving your papp's GL. Drop a couple grand. Nab a Leggy or Impreza or GL or... Whatever fits your fancy. Question for you gargrai. Are you wondering what a rebuilt twotwo costs for the sake of buying a motor as is, by itself... Or a Scoob with a rebuilt twotwo? Or.. Hold up. Cancel that. Sell your CrossCountry and pick up a Subaru! Welcome. -
No climate control
BoxerRebellion replied to BoxerRebellion's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
@Nipper - Probably solid advice. Using a multimeter, I've got nothing coming from the blower motor plug. 20V setting. (Doubled checked the setting against the battery - 11.78.) Alright, the next question would SADLY be, which fuse is the blower motor fuse. I have no diagram (cover) for the fuse box. Gah! -
No climate control
BoxerRebellion replied to BoxerRebellion's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
@Nipper - Vacuum operated system, yes. I do believe so. Fan in inoperable. No blow on any setting or any speed. @Miles - The fan is not working on 4, though the fan does look quite shotty. Took it apart just because. The two springs with metal attached to them looked... Less than decent. - Where is the mentioned switch located? @North - Fan brushes.... The.. The two metal guys on springs? They look... "Dented" Thank you dudes. Greatly appreciate it, as always. -
Howdy folks. Glad to see USMB back up and running. Seriously. I write today regarding a lack of climate control. '87 GL wagon. No venting. No heating. This and that. I just replaced the blower motor resistor hoping that would do the trick. It didn't. Though that's okay, the old one was shot. Corroded and bent. Had to happen anyway. Now, where should I go from here? Replace the blower motor? Test it? It looks as nasty as the resistor did. What can I test to point me in the right direction? Much thanks in advance.

Not post jacking, just sharing the limo-tint <3

My rear windows are limo-tinted like that as well. In my opinion, it looks pretty boss. Is it great at night? Honestly, no. Not really. Makes the cab very dark. With that said, is the limo-tinting worth it? Absolutely.
