So this past week I got a rod knock and my engine seized. If i'm not mistaken I have the EJ253. I'm having a hard time finding a re manufactured one. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a decent one? I'm not experienced enough rebuild it myself but I think I can handle the swap. I just have to track one down, and come up with the cash. The EJ253's are a bit hard to find so far. I have heard that I can use really any EJ engine. How true is that? If I'm going to spend the money is it possible to drop an engine in from an LGT? I'm so lost. I bought this thing only 8 months ago, and still owe quit a bit on the loan. I might try to loan the money i need to fix it from the bank but idk if they will do that for me.

Hey guys.....wanted to come for some backup. Having some trouble and no idea what could be going on. Story goes like this I was on the highway on my way to work, and all of a sudden my CEL flashes a bit then disappears. From what I could tell NOTHING else happened. I did have the windows down, and the music up a bit so it's possible I missed something. I pull into the parking lot, and there is no CEL but at Idle there is a weird flappy knock sound and its idling rough. There is also a very small amount of smoke. I shut the car off. Start it again. Bit of a knock on start but then idles smooth. I check the oil and the dipstick is bone dry... I haven't noticed any leaks lately and I just had the oil changed 2 months ago. So i put oil in it.....let it run a bit and the knock stopped. I have a buddy at work who has a code reader and he pulled a misfire on 3 and 4 in the history of the ECU. There was never a CEL except that one time and the oil light never came on...I figure it was the lifters, and maybe and filling the oil fixed it, but still unsure of the misfire. I was leaving work on the way to pick up my wife and all is well. Knock is gone no CEL...crisis averted. I get on the highway and get on the revs to get up to speed and then all of a sudden the knock is back. CEL is on solid and cruise is flashing...checked the oil level and its good. Knock only happens on rev and a tiny bit on idle. It also doesn't seem to be in limp mode. There seems to be no power loss. Attached is video of the noise 2007 Subaru legacy 2.5i 118k Its due for a timing belt job. I just got the kit with the water pump. I was going to do it tomorrow....lifes a bitch huh?

I was driving down the PA turnpike with the cruise set. All of a sudden the car looses all power. Cruse shuts off and Check engine light comes on (SOLID) and the cruise light is blinking. When reving past 4k the tac bounces almost like its hitting a limiter...and has no power. Car also now as a slight knock when starting. Also knocks when reving in neutral. Checked the tranny fluid and it is a little low. Walmart didn't have tranny fluid or a code reader so I'll be hitting up the parts store tomorrow morning. Any suggestions as to what this might be? Just goggling around I have come across Limp mode as a possibility Also read that a guy had his timing belt jump 2 teeth...which scares me because my timing belt it past due. I have been waiting for the weather to break to do it. 2007 legacy 2.5i 4EAT 115k miles

2007 Subaru legacy 2.5i I was on my way to pick up my lunch when My check engine light came on with the cruise light flashing. I borrowed a code from a friend at work, and was throwing a p0028. Just last night I noticed my oil was way low (its been a while since I put any in just got marred started a new job and relocated it slipped my mind oops) I put in 2 qt of 5w 30 as per the manual (i know not enough but wanted to hold it over oil at gas stations is a rip off) I deleted the code, and restarted the car and the code is gone. Took it for a tiny loop around the parking lot (will try a longer ride on my next break) Idk if it's my imagination or what but it seems after deleting the code when starting the car the revs momentarily drop almost to a stall but then go to normal...it might just be because its cold. Is it deff my solenoid? I haven't had a chance to check for a leak. Will look on my bake. Suggestions? Please help Obi Wan...you're my only hope...

I have a 2007 legacy 2.5i sedan with the automatic trans. Winter is coming up soon. Not only do I LOVE driving in the snow but I also have to drive up/down a mountain 5 days a week to get to my office. The business I work in doesn't have the luxury of snow days. There is a small bit of lag between when the car looses traction, and it goes into AWD. I have heard ways to bypass that but I'm not sure what the best method to do that is on my particular model. Ultimately I'd like to wire up a button or a switch to engage 50/50 split on demand. Is this do-able for my car, and is it safe?
