I'd love to buy his wagon. But i just got my legacy so I can take my 2 motorcycles back to Washington... Having stuff sucks I'm starting to realize. I might just buy another ea81 4x4 and chop the fenders and put on 28s like my last hatchback:D the cheapest solution at least.

1 safety first just drain the tank with the drain bolt and use a light coffee filter when you're done to clean the gas after its drained. My 94 has a 11 gallon tank so get a big container. 2. If you've got a gas leak you're probably sucking air and whatever else is going through the hole when the fuel pump is running, like dirt. So you should probably clean your fuel system as a caution. Get as in depth on the cleaning as you feel is necessary. If you think there's air in the system pull the fuel line from the fuel filter and crank the engine.

No dents. I'll check the oil pressure this weekend. I always have a valve tick when I first start the car up unless it's overfilled. So yah I suspect a weak sending unit. But it wouldn't make the car buck and it was only 1/2 quart under low. I replaced the fuel filter today and it seemed to smooth out my idle a little and no longer sounds like a v8. And seems to takeoff better and smoother. I'm gonna test my fuel pressure hopefully this weekend, the mechanic I live with has been gone for the last few weeks house sitting a mansion in aspen lol. I'm just curious as to what checklist I should go through to cure the bucking and my car dying. So I'm gonna check oil pressure and fuel pressure, any other tests I should run to try and find a culprit?

So my car died last night after bucking and sputtering for 2 miles with me on the throttle giving it hell. So I Turned the key on after it sitting for a day and there was this weird clicking whirring noise in the passenger side under the dash that got quieter after like 20 seconds. It sounds just like a fuel pump pressuring up but it's totally in the wrong place. Died once after starting it up, then I stsrted it again and it idled till warm the whirring clicking noise never went away. So then I started it later yesterday again and none of the same symptoms... What to do?

Check to make sure all your fuse blocks have power, the things the fuses go into. I had a freak accident in my efi 85 Toyota and the fuse block to my ECU lost power so I wasn't getting any spark and I checked everything from the plugs to the ignition coil and nothing... Ecu possibly causing no spark. Weird spoob can happen time to time. It took me a month to get the problem finally tracked down. So I hope this helps.

Hey man atf does work man. Gear oil is like 80-90weight and has lots of lubricant and deter green stuff in it to keep the gearbox clean of any buildup of rust or whatever the hell could start building up over the years in a gearbox. Has the same function in an engine cleans and lubricates. Putting in a cleaning agent is the easiest thing to do if it's any engine noise at all and see what happens. Other option is taking out the engine and cleaning the lifters and shim them if they're worn. Oil detergent like Lucas or ATF fluid would be the easiest place to begin at. I had a lifter tick in my Suby I bought a few weeks ago and when I put in clean oil it went away no oil detergent required. An oil change is always the easiest place to start. Good luck

Well it sounds like a pump does when it's trying to suck in gas the way it sounded when I turned on the key then it quited down a bit abut definitely still audible. I'll have to wait for the farm mechanic to get back. I already feel like I'm in way over my head now. I'll look for the prongs I guess. I just don't know where to start. And really don't have the time. Test mode wouldn't just suddenly kick in after driving it for 500 miles would it.

So I went and turned to the key to on and didn't start the car. I had this weird clicking noise and it almost sounded like it was bubbling? The noise is near the passenger floor. I can also hear it in the engine compartment too without the car on but not as loud, near the ignition coil but not coming from the ignition coil. Definitely sounds loudest with my head under the pass. Dash. Very loud at first then it quited after 20 seconds. Started the car and it died. Started again and it idled for me while I listened to the clicking. Also when I first tried to start it only clicked at me a few times lnot turning the engine at all, like it wanted me to wait, then the clicking noise calmed down and it started for me. Any ideas?

I'd take you up on that bet. You lose you come to my farm and work a day lol. But I'll check the hoses. But cmon I drove like 140-200 miles the other day over McClure pass and nothing till the end of the night and all of a sudden it starts bucking and losing power when I touch the gas. I'll go look... And try to start her and see what she does. I'll let yall know.

Oh and don't be scared to do the job hogweed work comes to worse you have to say codswallop it doesn't fit and put your old axle back on and get better at replacing axles. I got really good at doing subaru Gl axles. I went to Napa for my first axle replacement on my old Gl and they gave me 4 WRONG axles in a row... It just got me really good at replacing axles. And it's not gonna happen to you because yes it'll fit your car.

Yah hogweed I'm pretty sure that's the same model series. I'm definitely about to put seran rap on my axle. I live out in the boonies and don't have access to a damn thing. Oh and I live on a farm so my torn open boot sees a lot of dirt roads and watery mud. Started clicking 3 weeks ago and threw in wheel bearing grease and it quited right up. Seran rap and duct tape is definitely gonna be my new boot.

Yah add a quart of ATF fluid and use one less quart of oil, obviously. It's a great way to clean out your engine. But replace your oil filter 1500 miles because some of the gunk in the engine will get caught in it and could plug it up possibly, that should quite your engine down if it is the engine. i haven't had any experience messing with Suby transmissions before so I couldn't give you any good advice.

I cleaned the IACV the other week with seafoam through the bypass hose. So I'm assuming that cleaned it and I've cleaned the butterfly valve and the airbox and changed air filter. I'm gonna replace the plugs regardless. But I doubt it's the plugs after hearing what the first few posters had to say about insufficient gas flow. So once my buddy gets back home I'll have him break out the gauge to check the fuel psi. What psi is it supposed to put out

Once I put the pedal to the floor and cranked for a bit it fired up and idled for like 20 seconds then died. Haven't looked at it since last night. When I bought the car the guy said he thought it had a weak fuel pump because the idle surges a lot. But the air filter was clogged up pretty well so I cleaned the intake system and that helped out the idle a bit. It is still mimicking the surging idle but has never died on me till last night.

94 legacy 5spd awd... I flooded the engine after I drove BACK over McClure pas today 140 miles round trip. She was definitely struggling going up the pass like not wanting to push 40. Anyways on the way back I was engine braking for like 30 miles didn't think a thing of it. Getting off the highway I hit the gas and she barely had any power so I downshifted and punched the throttle. Finally got it home and it died when I let off the gas. Tried to start it with the pedal all the way down and it sounds flooded!!! I'm just hoping it's the spark plugs were too weak and need to get replaced. I just got it two weeks ago and from looking at the car and only replacing the air filter and cleaning the airbox and an oil change. it seems neglected. Drove fine untill I did that. Can anyone tell me what they think.

Sweet guys. Sounds easy actually.
