  1. And me and one of the guys I work with is a subaru lover so he's been telling me we should throw a dual cam engine in it. Ej22 is dual cam right? Anyways when and if the time is right we'll swap it.5
  2. Yah I'm working on a full exhaust only had the catalytic to work with when I got it as it was chopped out. Have a 2 inch thrush muffler now and yah that helped for sure. Crazy power gain still gotta get the rest of the resonators a a few mandrel bends and call it good. So I have an ea81 then? It is a 1.8 ohv I know that much. So what year gear box should I be on the hunt for? Because if it bolts right in id quite happy with that kind of ease. I'm pretty good at finding the parts I need for this rig so far gear box shouldn't be hard as long as I know what I need which is usually the struggle.
  3. Tell if y'all need a better photo. Just what I had on my phone
  4. Tell me what I got guys. This cars a mystery to me it has no timing belt I know that much
  5. Where would I find a LSD? Don't some wagons have them stock? If so what years any mods I'd need to make? I have a 4 SPD brat Tranny
  6. Check temp sensor on the radiator make sure all connections are good. The rumble at idle definitely sounds like a bad spark plug.
  7. 87 GL hatchback with 262000. Head gasket is gonna go soon. And I know it.
  8. So what do you guys think then!? Do I have a 84 brat transmission with just hi 4wd? What am I working with here?
  9. We'll the reason me and the guys at the track think it's an 84 brat is those are the only axle we can get to fit the front end. Of course all the splines for these old subarus seem to be the same so far. This cars a junkyard dog I'm finding out new things about its history every other repair I make.
  10. My current experience is apprenticing at woody creek speedway near aspen CO. So lots of mixed things experience with cars vs racers vs desert trucks. I helped swap one transmission in my life. But I can get help from one of the guys up at the track no problem.
  11. I have an 87 2dr gl With a ea82 ohv engine in mine. My starters near the drivers side behind the engine.
  12. Yah I dig the 4 SPD brat tranny I've got besides the transfer case. So it's any 4spd from an ea81 with 4 hi-lo I want?
  13. I talked to the guys at weber and they said they discontinued making weber conversion kits for the L series wagons. Dude it talked to was obviously wanting to get me off the phone. But that's just what I heard. But yes different base from stock as it needs to mount to the intake manifold and the carbs are universal. I've heard you can make them easily enough.
  14. What about just switching to a weber 32/36 carb? I heard it can boost hp from 70 to 100? Correct my numbers please. I have an old stock carb that's getting towards the end of its life.
  15. We'll I have an 84 brat tranny and it's definetily not the stock transmission. I believe the transfer case is innermarried to these older subaru transmissions. So I'd have to get a whole dual speed transmission. And this 4 SPD blows for my setup. I can't get my car going fast enough to use 4th. Granted I can do 70 in 3rd. I'm leaning towards a 5 SPD dual range. If I can find one!
  16. I talked to redline they don't make adapters. Not too hard to make the adapter, people with 2.7l jeeps complain about them bogging their engines on steep trails. It'd be an experiment because I was wanting one for my 1.8 ohv ea82.
  17. I'd be switching from a 4spd brat to I'm assuming you mean a dual range gl transmission? It'll just bolt in?
  18. So I have a subaru over here in CO came with some wide 28 inch tires. It's got an 84 brat transmission and I absolutely roast my clutch trying to climb really steep trails like aspen mountain 4x4 trails. I only have a 4-hi transmission. Trying to climb from time to time my car will stall out because my engine just can't turn the gears with the 28s. I'm stumped. Accept my subaru sucks on trails. Smaller tires and lift it(wheel wells are chopped for the tires). Different gear box. More hp? I'm not keen on a regear as I'm broke and 18.
  19. I'm pretty sure the timing is because the ignition coil is new and every now and a again it takes a few turns of the key to start. And seeing that the serpentine is nearly torn i have my suspicions about the rest of the cars belts.
  20. Timing is off. Is the timing belt inside the engine or is it the surpentine belt that controls engine timing?
  21. So I made a 20 mile drive about a week ago, checked oil, radiator fluid because my radiators got a bit of a leak jumped in my car and started driving,by the time I got there my car was steaming so I parked popped my hood and realized I didn't put my radiator cap back on after I checked the level at home. now I know I screwed up you don't have to tell me that, it hadn't been leaking any oil before this, but now there was oil under my engine. once my car cooled I put some more radiator fluid in it and tried to start it... Nothing. Engine cranking but no compression to fire it. Got it towed home. 10 hours later started my car sounded fine. No tell tale signs of a blown head gasket of gunk under the oil cap my timing belt is way off I know I need that tuned so it runs kinda poorly, and the oil only occaisionaly shows up after a 20 minute drive through town. I've put a good amount of time into this car so please don't tell me to scrap it. 261,xxx miles
  22. Trying to get a handle on repairing my subaru! 87 hatchback... Driving me crazy with cooling issues
