  1. if your still doing this...............or havent already. You need an adaptor plate and they are hard to find unless you know somebody. i found one on e-bay. the only hoses you need is the distributor advance. the rest you can cap off, loop or whatever plugs them. I took the front off the routing plate under the carb and direct mounted it with a gasket and silicone. there is one little hose coming from the passenger firewall if it is an A/C car. place it directly on the intake manifold. there are three hoses coming from the fuel tank lines. The fuel of couse, the return line and the vacum line. the vaccum can be placed on the intake. the fuel return can be plugged or if you want to you can drill out the fitting slot on the carburator top and insert the proper size tube and run the return line....or just plug it. you may have to use the cable linkage quartermoon from your carb as the webers usually come with a direct lever type linkage which has snapped my acc. cables. The cuved type gives the cable a more steady cradleing effect and even retreival into the cable casing as you accelerate. I hope this helps.
  2. I have the ea71 and 5 speed tranny from my wagon and wanted to build a 73-76 coupe someday only problem is those are hard to find. The engine is solid with .075 pistons. I split it and inspected it when i got it It had a fresh re-build where someone removed the sump tube and it later fell out The crank was polished and fitted with new main and rod bearings by myself I ran the car with the engine as to pass state inspection before i tore the car down to upgrade wth ea81 and dual range 4wd. The engine was solid and i drove it for a while cuz i didnt have the heart to tear it apart......but now its sitting and i am concerned for its health I am thinking of selling maybe...anyone interested? Tranny is solid but will need front seal and output seals replaced as it leaks a bit. I could put it on craigslist ans sellit to someone for a dune buggy as i am the onli one out here with a classic soob but i should let you all have a crack at it first as it is the neigborly thing to do. If anyone wants to make a trip i will sell as a combo for 200.
  3. engine looks good by the way... nice job. PS the coors light can beside it remids me of a few mechanical blunders ive commited....
  4. I Have installed them on my 79 and they are better, the ge 1 struts are cased inside the strut assembly and can be removed whereas the Gen 2 seem to be integrated into the spring assembly. I did not try to open it as i wanted the spring adjustment offered on the 2nd gen brat strut. they bolt right up but with the guide bolt hole keeping the bottom of the strut from seating all the way down. the brake line bracket is welded to the strut also instead of bolted on with the guide bolt. they will hit on the brake line. I grinded those off . I bolted them down and they held just fine for a few months until i extended them for more lift. The 2nd gen struts are far superior to the first and with slight modification will fit great. I hope this will help.
  5. project is completed except for interior and paint. Pics were from the build period. I used the 84 as a donor. parts used are the front struts capped at the bottom with 5" of the origonal 79 strut cases, rear end...Had to fabricate the mount and used shocks from an aerostar van that i blew up and never mounted them, the tie rod ends(3" overall width to match the rear and had to extend the controll arms 1.5" on each side by drilling and welding3/8 flat bar fabrications. the engine was torn down and i ported the heads and had them milled, ground the cam journals and used a set of ea 71 .025 pistons that I miraculousely scored on e-bay for 90 bucks. Tranny is the original 84 gutted and fitted with a single range gear assembly as it was lower geared. 4wd and low are cable driven with a schwinn bycicle gearing lever set up on the console( I did not want to cut and fit an awkward shifter) and thicker cables( I can drive it in low without 4wd ingaged...Heh Heh). Front end was modified to fit an 84 nissan truck radiator which is cooled by the original subie electric fan and a secondary fan switch powereing two more fans including one for the oil cooler.....this has been an adventure and alot of work but well worth it
  6. the switch should go to the negative wire coming from the fan. The power is coming from a hard wired cource that is direct to a battery source as to stay on even when you shut the engine off so that she cools off while you wait. I have my switch re-wired on the 78 brat with a relay and fusible link straight to the battery as the fan tends to pull alot of amps from the ancient charging system.
  7. Never been to colorado. want to go someday. thats vegas dunes (apex) and Mt. Charleston outside of vegas....its our little skid mark of mountains.
  8. the hitachis run forever but are very bipolar and sensitive..............for me weber is the solution then get rid of the points and install an electronic dist.............be sure to get the timing bolt bracket underneath the distributor as the points distributor adjustment slot is closer to the base than the electric. its easy...one wire( black with white stripe) is to the ignition power supply and the other (yellow) to the coil ground.
  9. thats cherry dude....Im going to need a moment to myself.................
  10. I found this in flagstaff for 500. the owner said it threw a rod. I towed it home and started it.....knock knock... I pulled the ea71 and started to dismantle. as i was removing the oil pan i found the sump tube laying in the bottom. after splitting the block and finding the main bearings fried i inspected and polished the crank. i replaced the main and rod bearings and put her back together forinspection.. she rean so good that for a whle i did not want to convert to 4wd and drove her stock for almost a year. I loved the brat so much but could not fit the family on off road adventures so her fate was already spoken.....here ar the fun pics.... Donor 84 brat i picked up in havasu...2 ea81s an ea 71 and an extra tranny in the back.......and she ran.
