  1. I was not a big Yellow fan at first but after 25 years of driving one, it has grown on me a bit! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=435&cat=500&ppuser=584 ....That is till I carved it up:lol:
  2. Good Score, I purchased this 84 wagon for $40. Runs fine. I had to supply the tires though. Thanks Boobaru! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=7455&cat=500&ppuser=584 How can you go wrong at such a price? Any JY part would cost more than the car? These are getting scarce around this neck of the woods. Buy all you can and preserve them! They're not making any more!
  3. Rust is the first and probably only thing I'd look for. Look in the wheel well top to bottom. Look along the rocker panels. Look under the carpet where you put your feet. Good luck,
  4. I have the same issues with hauling gas. I always strap it to the luggage rack. It stinks too much to transport inside! If your changing elevation you will want to vent it carefully when you open it.
  5. Any Steel supply store should have the raw metal or the metal prefab trailer receiver piece ready to weld. The only difference will be the price. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=11586&cat=500&perpage=12&sort=3&ppuser=584 This is the pre-fab type here... Call around...
  6. What kind of trailer are we talking about? Starting a load is not where you run into problems....Stopping is... What lever is anyone using for the two lever thing? Just a second "stock" 4wd lever or something different?
  7. An old car is never going to be as safe as a newer one. This is 80's technology. Even the crash tests when the vehicle was new are not going to be the same when the vehicle is 20+ years old and rusty. Drive defensively, don't speed.....oh wait it's a Subaru Just drive defensively.....cause you can't speed!:-\
  8. They will still eat through the plastic housing on wires and rubber hoses inside or out. Some Decon inside will at least keep them from running amok. However dead mice in the car is not much fun either. Close all heat/duct vents. You don't want them setting up camp in the dash. Crack a window so the flys can get OUT! Best case is to have someone start it ocasionally and drive it too?
  9. There are issues with any tires. The tires are not my complaint, gearing is! The biggest issue I have is developing the horsepower. With a 22 to 1 crawl ratio, over sized tires take their toll on power. I'd choose your tire size carefully. Steep Climbs are out of the question with way big tires. --Before you say it, if I was going to put in a second transfer case, I'd start with a different platform-- Having said all that, I think your Brat would rock with ATV tires.
  10. I had a similar situation and it turned out to be a simple solution... Change your cap and wires. It's a cheap fix if it's the problem???
  11. The Subaru floor pan would fold up without the body. The Jeep would give you the cosmetics but not the support. I'd think you'd probably need to build some sort of tube frame to go with it. You'd want a roll cage anyway...
  12. Have the alignment checked, but I'd suspect the tire was run with low air on that twisting road.
  13. You could always undo eight bolts and remove the rear driveline...
  14. Is the legacy gear ratio the same as the GL's? I like this idea....
  15. Never broken one yet, on or off-road.
  16. Good Score, You probably saved money by purchasing an old one and modifying it. The bearings and latches would have set you back more than the whole unit.
  17. Scott, Both the Humbug, like the one in the pic, and the Bandit like my vehicle are one donor car built machines. Neither one is going to be street legal in the US. Both are the same sub frame. The only difference is the top tubing/siding. Both are Rhino kits. The Humbug will end up weighing more because there is more body to it. There are other companys that sell Subaru required kits. I think the Rhinos are probably the best design. That particular Bandit is a four seater. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=438&cat=500&perpage=12&sort=3&ppuser=584 Glenn
  18. Scott, That's a Rhinobuggy "Humbug". The same chassis as all the other Rhino kits, just a different look on the top side. I considered the Humbug because it was a 4 seater but I didn't want to pay to get the fiberglass front shipped up from AZ. I ended up stretching the Rhino "Bandit" into a 4 seater. When you were talking sand, I thought you were looking for a dune buggy or sand rail type vehicle. The Rhinos are not really in that class due to gearing and other issues. I'd consider them more of a trail/beach buggy. Good luck, Glenn
  19. I put hood pins on my Subie and it's not rice. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=9077&cat=500&perpage=12&sort=3&ppuser=584 It was the only way the hood was going to stay down...
  20. You said it... You need to get out more... I can tell a Subaru a block away just by the sound. I need to get out more:eek:
  21. Welcome to the board, Now all you need is a Subaru to complete the process!
  22. I welded my diff since this thread was started and have not looked back. Weld it, the difference is amazing. It's simple and quick to remove the axle.
  23. Put more air in your tires!
  24. I'm running 6ply 26X12X12's. They seem tough enough. Traction can't be beat. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=11586&cat=500&ppuser=584 For more tame conditions I run a Wild Cat LT 205/75/14 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=11728&cat=500&ppuser=584 Both do good in snow, one digs, one floats.
