  1. That's what I was wondering. Haven't had time for the flush but that's what I'll do next. Is it OK to run with the FWD fuse in for extended periods? ie until I try the flush? Thanks!
  2. Been reading up on the issue for awhile but not read anywhere about the torque bind coming and going? Anybody else experience this? Is the cause the same? Sometimes the car will exhibit it, sometimes not. When it does, the FWD fuse makes it go away. But sometimes it goes away on its own with the fuse out and in AWD. Is this typical? Thanks,
  3. Wow, that's all a lot less than what I was thinking. Guess I'm a little biased since its a friend and don't want to take advantage of her. But I also don't want to overpay (nor does she). Couple hundred bucks is scrap value though...
  4. Buying a 1997 Legacy sedan from a friend and need to decide on a fair price both ways. She got it from a friend years ago who bought it new. It has high miles (284K) but she has done all the maintenance required and kept up with everything, I have the records. Motor doesn't smoke and with the 22's reputation I'm not real worried about that for a car that will be driven very little. Just a few rust bubbles here & there. Interior is clean and intact. Left fender and drivers door suffer from an impact with a deer but that's replaceable. She claims it has torquebind but what little I've driven it is seems to come & go. I'll do the tranny flush and see what happens. Needs tires soon and probably an alignment. She said that the front struts were next on the list for R&R. It just showed a 440 code since I've been driving it which I think is emissions so I'll need to check vacuum lines, gas cap, filler neck, etc. I'm thinking around $1,000. That seem reasonable? What do you guys think?
  5. Mine's been driving since she was about 10. Driving a truck with a gooseneck while I loaded it with hay etc. Just not real experienced with traffic and other cars sharing the road... Once we get the car registered I'll investigate the torque bind in detail. Been reading posts about it for awhile since we've been considering this car for several months now. Thanks for the warm welcome and interest, Cheers,
  6. Thanks guys. She was meticulous about maintenance and notes. The timing belt was done 48K ago. This car has been loved and well maintained. She mentioned issues with torque bind but I've not experienced it yet. Only real issues is it needs a driver's door and fender from a deer collision. I'll try and get that fixed but my 16yo may add a few more body boo boos so I'm not real concerned - although she'd like it to be visually pleasing.
  7. Just thought I'd introduce myself now that I'm an owner. I'm a Dodge and Toyota man but my brother has had Subs for a long time and I have admired them. We just bought a 1997 Legacy sedan for my daughter's first car. At 16 she'll be mostly just driving local and with AWD and air bags I feel its safer than my 1990 Corolla wagon. She's a little too small to be comfortable in my 1992 W250 CTD. It has 284,XXX but I got it from a friend who kept up with all the maintenance and seems to be in great shape (the car, not my friend). She bought it from a friend years ago who bought it new so we know the whole history. I'll be coming here regular to get familiar with the Sooby and repairs. Cheers,
