It's about 90minutes or so from me, I have to weigh the added cost, and time. My car is hobbled for the time being. Having some headway on a set of winter tires/steelies. It's the best bet I have so far, besides working off of a new tire. since two of the tires are near bald, I'll use the pair that have about 5-6/32" tread depth left (again mine: 7-8/32") Salvage the two, and utilize the rims. For the sake of this thread, I'll update if I take the shaving route, or resort to my FWD fuse.

I'm afraid it's a true and cut blowout of the sidewall. I've got a bit of experience with tires, just not the whole AWD transmission end of the stick. I had thought I might have just unseated the bead, the rim only got a nick on the exterior, seriously unscathed. Once I had it in my trunk, I saw it was sadly toast. I guess this post can be retitled, "Has anyone had any issues with their auto-trans drivetrain after disabling their AWD?"

EDIT: Yikes, I may have misinterpreted the 1/4" RoT "All four tires must match in circumference within 1/4 inch." For those wondering, http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php is a great online tire size comparison caluclator. It shows that a size 205/50R16 compared to my 205/55R16 is a whopping 2.54 inches off in circumference. Looks like the level of tolerance the Subaru AWD system defines requires the exact same size tire, within 2 or 3/32" in tread depth. EDIT2: SOLUTION, I ordered a shaved tire from Tire Rack. They didn't have my Mastercraft (Cooper) tire, so I had a choice between: the Goodyear Ultra Grip and the General Altimax Artic. Some reviews pointed to soft sidewalls on the General Alti's, susceptible to bubbles or bursts, especially the smaller 16" sizes. Ultra Grip's with the $25 shaving fee, are being shipped to my local tire shop for ~$120 I looked around for a used tire of the same wear and dimension: Craigslist, online as a new unit, and finally found that eBay has quite a few of such at reasonable prices. I could pick up a matching tire for ~$60. Check your local shops as well, I didn't have luck in my area. I looked around and found these two useful threads, in case anyone else is in the same boat: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/96012-tire-blowout-from-pothole/?hl=%2Btire+%2Bblowout http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/90673-replacing-1-snow-tire/?hl=%2Btire+%2Bblowout&do=findComment&comment=760818 I blew out one of my snow tires... they had two seasons of use so I'm looking for the same tire with similar wear. Can't do that on short notice, the best option I have is a new matching tire from the interwebs, identical in every way. My tires are just over a 1/4" worn (7-8/32", new they have 13/32"). I have zero drivetrain issues, car is rock solid. What exactly am I risking running the line so close? How bad is it/the chance of wear... I suppose I'm asking for anyone with experience with a mismatched tire on an AWD enabled Subie. Edit: Seeing as a new tire is far out of the acceptable dimensions, I will have to look around for an appropriate used tire. I'm still interested in the following: Another option I see fit, is moving the new tire to the rear, and disabling AWD ==> FWD Am I wrong to have noticed a trend in members developing strange issues from prolonged "FWD enabled" usage? I've looked at the FWD fuse.. removal (or insertion?) in the past out of curiosity and picked up on a number of individuals developing torque bind. Maybe that information was misleading :/ still would like to hear your two cents on this, thanks. Side note, my 17 year old wagon seems to never have needed it's spare. The jack and tools are..were mint. Hmm.. wasn't used to not having a lift jack and a flat surface, no complaints.

This thread is so old, I'd thought I'd at least try asking here first. I blew out one of my snow tires... they had two seasons of use so I'm looking for the same tire with similar wear. The best option I have is an identical tire, brand model size, just it's new! My tires are just over a 1/4" worn (7-8/32", new they had 13/32"). I have zero drivetrain issues, car is rock solid. What exactly am I risking running the line so close? How bad is it/the chance of wear... I suppose I'm asking for anyone with experience with a mismatched tire on an AWD enabled Subie. I'm aware some businesses shave tires, given they are on the other side of the state, I might just.... throw on my 16" on the back of my siblings 15"er Corolla .

That doesn't quite look like the later gen Fozzie trunk organizer I'm thinking of, but either way those are very rare! A buddy of mine said he drove 2 hours to pick one up for a steal of a price, and I quote "because I've never heard of one, I had to have it". Definitely serves him well, his trunk is packed regardless. Any similar offering for my GF8? The aftermarket one I have slides around and is way too small

SkankinPickle bad trader alert
SnatchedHatch replied to subarubrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I can't agree with you more (although if a seller stipulates he'll have a delay in shipment, before cash is exchanged, then of course...). There's a definite PRO-tip in what you said, don't involve those closest to you with your finances. It's difficult to follow, when you are truly desperate and you really have no one but your family to turn to, but there's a good reason for it. The lender and borrower labels change the power dynamic in a relationship. That can lead to hurt feelings, awkwardness, and tension. You know.. writing "...when you are truly desperate..", knowing what I do about Skankin and what's he's told me of his life situation, I just struck upon some insight as to how he played his cards in taking advantage of some of us. There's no way of knowing if he had mixed feelings about it, if it all was a blind rush for him, or if he made a calculated decision in cold blood. I hope for the former. That of course doesn't make it right, but it sounds like he's in a bit of a bind with the folks. I actually completely missed the tacked on messages SubaruBrat added, and they further suspect me to think the same. Subarubrat, you did the right thing! I was in the same boat, and acted on a gut feeling. Here's a great thread on the subject, and I'll go ahead and post the OP and top comment: http://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/2j1oki/never_loan_money_to_friends_or_family_but_when/ "OP: My husband and I have a rule (now) that we don't loan money to family or friends. We are as generous as we can be when a loved one is in financial trouble, but we always make peace with the idea that we will never get that money back. We are middle class, but his mom and sister are working poor (definitely not dead beats but always paycheck to paycheck with few luxuries). This mental attitude helps when my MIL buys something for my children even though my husband just spent $1200 fixing her car. If she owed us that $1200, I would be annoyed that she "wasted" $10 buying ice cream for the kids. But when I remember our decision, I can relax and watch her help my laughing 2 year old eat. And I know that his memory and my daughter's memory of their grandmother will be worth a lot more than money. But honestly, sometimes it takes a heated minute or two to remember our decision." "Top comment: For years I loaned money to family and I was still a financially growing young adult, usually getting it back, but not always. I grew a bit resentful when I saw they'd spend more for instant gratification than waiting even a few days for non-essentials at a lower price. Then when I realized I was living a more spartan lifestyle (by choice) than they, yet I was still the default cash flow fix. They would also buy luxuries I myself would consider unaffordable for myself. I realized I wasn't helping. I was the enabler. I stopped "helping" financially and my relationship with family improved." -
Haha! Blast from the past, I'm quite sneaky with the photos I'm good, just working and getting back to school next semester. Have to boost that GPA up or I get the boot haha! I take it you're still in Kankakee, are you still modding by trade? I'd love to see how the RX is doing, I just got an EJ soob and I'm damn well content with the power increase.. can't imagine having it boosted I'm still just up 57, chilling with the fam and homies for the Holiday. Can't thank you enough, you made yesteryear's polar blizzard a walk in the park We few look forward to it amr? I hope my winter set won't wear out the studs by then.. Pming you, maybe we can meet up mid-December? Gotta see what new you've dragged back to the shop hahaha! *it's aliive!*

I thought the story goes, it was just not in the American market? FWD only, isn't that where the idea for the custom came from? I almost positive there's an old-school ad for the one off, either way, I was trying to point out that there were FWD only sport-oriented Turbo models. I do like this larger 3-door over the one I had, so much more room.. for activities

who is the best head builder
SnatchedHatch replied to coronan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Feel free to pm a response, I've been thread jacking too much lately, I was just wondering what you had to do to get that $200 XT6 road worthy? -
Yeahp, this guy was alike into the old-school, but not afraid to destroy that purity for pure performance This RX had an EJ22 running 14-15 pounds boost if I recall right, might've been 12. Last I heard, he did successfully do the 5-lug swap, and had some white multi-spoke Mazda rims to throw on. I'm sure I'll run into him eventually

Not sure if this happens to be a boardmember's, but ever since I saw Subaru Dave's Supercharged EG33 swap I've been wanting one! Definitely prefer the shade of blue metallic he's got going on, but yeah thought I'd share this clean example. Everything about it, that squared off hood front, the sloping rear complete with that molded spoiler. Maybe I'll find one for myself if they'll still be around :/ http://imgur.com/a/a3OqD

The Sentra SE-R's problem was only on some Altima's, all SE-R's had a design flaw in the ceramic substrate in the cat that was part of the exhaust manifold. It could cause an overheated cat, after crumbling up and getting sucked back into the engine. Poor combustion would clog the cat. What was the issue with yours?
-
There's so much wrong with that statement..wha ..why hasn't it been rectified? See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.. until there's a serious problem? That's how Nissan handled the problem with the precat/exhaust manifold assembly on my SE-R... althought there was an extremely high chnace you'd reach the stage of engine/brick mode. Still, they never officially released a recall.
