  1. I've seen a lot of avocation for the usual oil weights and blah blah blah. Has anyone used HD40 during the summer in your wheeler EA's? I'm liking the idea, we run steady high rpm's, idle for long periods of time, and don't shut the vehicles down. Everything the oil is designed for. SAE40 is on the recommended weight list from Subaru by the way, for above 60F.
  2. Pretty much why I've stopped trying. I'm waiting for snow fall to really give it a good test, or rain and some mud. I have engine work to do in a few hours, figure if it's going to be down for a few days I may as well crack other stuff open if need be. I'll probably wait. Now to figure out this noise that sounds like a lifter, off to a new post!
  3. I'd like for it to be that simple, unfortunately it's not.
  4. o/ I tried a bit of searching before hand and didn't come up with anything similar to my problem, and NASIOC didn't have much help other that the direction to this site. (Which I'm ecstatic about.) I bought a 1985 GL from my in-laws, I found the car a year ago and was about to buy it when they said they needed it more, so I let them snatch it up with the intent of buying it from them later on. Well, that time has come and now it's mine. They drove it maybe 2,000 miles in the year they owned it and did improper maintenance. Now it's got a dead lifter and 2 blown head gaskets. I'm not very concerned about those two issues, they're easy fix's for me. I am however concerned with my 4WD system. FWD works perfectly, it'll even do a one tire fire if I'm not easy on the peddle. 4hi it makes a ton of gearbox noise from the center diff, and it feels like one of the rear wheels locks up and just drags, all while going straight, I haven't dared to turn. 4lo makes the same noise however it seems to work just fine. I haven't really tried 4lo that much due to the fear of it breaking on dry pavement. The weirdest part of all this, is it only goes back in 2wd if I'm going in reverse. It refuses to go back while moving forward. If you've got idea's before I start cracking the box's open, I'm all ears.
  5. Fortunately the pan is not dented on the bottom, only on the sides. I'll pull the IAC apart tonight and check it out.
  6. That's a lot of money for only a chance of working. I'm replacing the oil pan, going to inspect the pickup. Hopefully its not that. Now that I actually drive it a good distance, it feels like that's the problem.
  7. 2000 Legacy L Wagon, just put a newer EJ25 in it. The shop that did the work failed to check the oil pan and put in a VERY dented pan. They also filled it with 5qts of oil. I drained out a good qt of oil, and the level is now sitting on the max level notch on the dipstick. This solved my struggle to idle until lunch today. Now its dropping to roughly 200 rpm after I accelerate, and picks itself back up. no problems accelerating, runs great at all points other than mentioned. I'm concerned the oil pump was damaged by the shops idiotic 5qt fill with an obviously damaged oil pan. The engine knock she sensor is faulty as well, comes on sometimes and stays on until I leave the car off for about ten minutes or until I clear it.
  8. I'm looking for basic street coilovers for 2000 Legacy Wagon. I like the Tein street basics, but can only find them for the 2005+ GT wagons.
