West Coast Subaru Show #8 date and venue decided.
mcbrat replied to ezapar's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
man, that cloud had a really sharp edge to it.... -
There is no "Authorized Vendor" status. just the Vendor forum, where vendors can hawk their wares.... Welcome to the USMB.....

either way, I'll attend to the hole in the floor, but seeing as how it used to do that to me before (Zap was with me one time at the cabin when it did it) that I think the tranny is still good... and I'll bet the tranny mounts are in need of some urethane

82 wagon w/3" BYB lift. No engine, no radiator, no battery Trans questionable background: prev owner blew reverse in tranny. he replaced tranny with a known good tranny from me... ('84, unknown mileage, was in my old black 84 Turbo Brat, worked good) this trans would pop out of gear when it was in 4WD. ... and before he parked it, was bogging, and didn't want to move.. currently: I now am the owner of wagon for the second time. had some concerns about situation, but after doing the motor swap (fee for the free wagon), I discovered that the engine that was in this wagon, had a huge vac leak. there was a big fitting behind the carb, slightly to the drivers side of the intake manifold, and the vac cap had cracked/split wide open, so there was a sizeable hole (nearly a quarter inch) of a vac leak. this would seem to me, very good reason for his running problem.... when I previously owned this vehicle, I had same issue of popping out of gear while in 4WD, because it's a full 3" lift, even at radius rod blocks, and the floor hole was not modified to accomodate the greater movement... I have a spare tranny from a '86 brat. I never drove it, but was driven to my house by prev owner before I parted out the brat... I think the trans in the wagon4 is still good, and I just need to make sure the linkage is able to freely move where it needs to.... I hate tranny swaps, but since the engine and rad are out right now, it'd make it easier... what say the masses?

I am very tired of changing front axel shafts
mcbrat replied to gonehuntn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
check your tranny mounts too... I was blowing an axle within 150 miles because the tranny mounts were bad... -
I believe that was 83projectsubaru or something of that sort, in MN.

reproduction shift boot for 80-84 2wd 5 speed
mcbrat replied to mcbrat's topic in Products for your Subaru
my manufacturer and I are both still looking for the proper grey vinyl. we have color swatches from old boots to go off of. the last set of grey ones was too light, and really too thick of vinyl. -

EA81 dual weber info needed....
mcbrat replied to Jerry DeMoss's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
in the ea81 dual carb set-up, the hitachi carb mounts are too close together to use the stock weber adapters. custom adapters would be needed to add at least another inch to the spacing so that 2 webers (32/36) will fit... I don't know of any other webers that there is a soob adapter for.... I think a smaller type of weber carb would be better... as 2 of the 32/36's will be like running my Holley 600 lot's 'o fuel....not enough air pump action..... -

I wonder if this is the problem I'm having... I had this carb on a ea81 before, after I did a rebuild on it, and it ran fine. it had a water choke, and I converted it to an electric choke, and installed it onto a ea71 now. Now, if I punch down on the throttle, if it's idlling, it will sputter and die. it also was dying if I was driving, and I woulds let off the gas,and brake up to a stop light, it would die. had to restart it about 5 times coming home that day. what's the proper way to set the choke? my haynes weber manual doesn't get very specific... any thoughts?

I'd like first dibs on the set I sent your way if you end up not needing them I may have 1 or 2 old original lug nuts laying aorund. they are a short shaft alloy type nut....

for 13" wheels, 185/80R13 because that's the tallest 13" tire out there.... stock 185/70R13 is 23.2" diameter 185/80R13 = 24.7" which is about the biggest you can go on the ea81 based body styles... 195/70R14 = 24.7" as well. the 85-94 EA82 based bodies can handle a little bigger I believe. up to about 25.5" maybe? not sure. use the tire calculator here to determine the combos. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

though I never got to off-road this one, I liked it. EA81T with decked heads. converted to 4 speed D/R. BYB 4/3 lift, and 30x9.50x15s K&N Cone intake. could spin the tires on dry pavement, and also disintegrated a DOJ after only 50 miles when I stompped on it, spun on some loose gravel, and then caught pavement. Ker-Pow!
