  1. there's a pic of one here... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/USRM2/mick-usrm/heatercore/heatercore.html Dealer only part $100-130 depending on where you shop.... I've replaced 2 of them. the first one actually had one of the brass tabs gone that held the valve together, and the other the plastic stopper that slides to direct the flow, had been corroded enough, and the action was compromised. both had leaked a bit as some point too....
  2. yeah, I haven't seen many low caps... I have a bunch more pics I've accumulated for that page, but haven't gotten around to modifying that page.... the Gemtops are metal. the model number is what's on the back corner. 454 it looks like on yours. I had a Gen2 Gemtop, model 455 (low also) and Syrinx has a 455 on his brat.... my favorite cap (we call 'em toppers in my neck of the woods) was the one I had on my first Brat (86). it was a LEER brand. fiberglass, low, with just a slight rise before the rear door. as seen here. I really like the white topper on a dark blue brat. I really don't like my high topper on my 86 now. the low Gemtop I used to have on it, was color matched...
  3. here's more examples from the Brat page... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/brats/toppers/toppers.html
  4. check out some of their other pics.... how many soobs do you see ? http://www.amishoutlawracing.com/BuckOct1.htm
  5. yep, the easy axle is on the right on 2 of my brats....
  6. it's well traveled I got it from SC, then Kurt got it when he bought that brat from me....
  7. if they are bent, it can cause the diff to not be centered anymore, and cause wear on the rear axle that is being extended more than the other... the big bushing doesn't force it to stay centered.....
  8. I got one from a board member nad had it flushed/tested. (86Subaru if I remember correctly) it should look like this one.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-88-89-90-91-SUBARU-XT-HEATER-CORE_W0QQitemZ7950558152QQcategoryZ33548QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  9. that's a ea81 core.... will not work in ea82..... I went through the same hassle when I replaced the one in my old 87 wagon....
  10. you'll want to swap the LSD "middle" into your 4.11 case/gears.
  11. 5 soobs in sig below. only non-running one is the 82 Mountain Grizzly wagon, which isn't really mine yet anyway..............
  12. are they the round hole style? I've seen 2 sizes of the oval hole. 5" and 5.5" and 2 sizes of the round hole. 5.5" (has a slightly raised lip around holes) and a 6" that is "flat" around the holes... (I am running a set of these too...)
  13. that's how I set mine up as well. I threw mine away on my 82 Brat... I usually pull the intake manifold off, and remove the hard tubing as well. really cleans it up nice....
  14. that was Ken and Eric's idea on the lift... Ken just had to go bigger.... I've got RX springs on, and the struts adjusted all the way up, and I don't go through near as many axles... (though it's rough riding)
  15. it's going to be very rare to get a gen2 brat for under $500 these days.... rust is most always the deciding factor....... on price..... a Totally rust free one, with a prior salvage title, but similar age/mileage as the one you are looking at, (but with a 5 speed conversion and rear disc brakes went for over $4k on eBay.... also in the mix. how hard are they to come by in your area, and how bad do you want one....
  16. those were my wheels. they are 15" Pug flat spoke alloys. I took the pug centercaps and bondoed in the lion recess molded into the cap. then I painted to match my Brat, and I used the 4WD emblem from hatchbacks and mounted them on the centercaps.....
  17. well, finally got the '87 on the road again after the little rear bearing mis-hap put on a complete different trailing arm, and did the rear disc brake conversion while I was at it. the ASV's have been taken out of the loop, so no more backfiring. I put some 175/80R13 studded snow tires on tonight as well, and put a full size spare in.... time for some winter car hockey not real happy with the glass pack on it, but it'll have to do for now....
  18. be sure to get a nice pic for the wheels page.... it looks close to this one.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/13-black-euro-12.jpg
  19. just use the stock hitachi linkage. you gonna keep the water choke? it was interesting to get it plumbed... easier to just get an electric choke conversion kit....
  20. for you newbies here's what it looked like when I first got it.... http://usmb.net/gallery/album93/bratgriz_1 and here it was right before I sold it a couple years ago.... http://usmb.net/gallery/album93/PDC_0331
  21. with a tow bar this evening. the guy I sold it to(who also has my old lifted 87 wagon), had it sitting at a friends house, and the City Code Inspectors said it had to be able to drive around the block, or a $500 fine was in order because you can't store un-drivable vehicles on your property (in open sight). I bought some tires from him, and he offered to give me Mountain Grizzly back, if I'd help him swap engines around. He want mtngrizz's engine instead of the ea81 that I put in the 87 wagon.... both are weberized. Mountain Grizzly just had a new PS rack installed, but needs a tranny and radiator to be driveable. It's got on it: rear disc brakes 3" BYB lift Custom front bumper and brushguard will also need a drivers side fender... and some body trim to be "nice" looking again.... it's either gonna get fixed up for my Dad, since his is rusting away, or fixed up and sold.... (unless I can sell my 87 Brat and Ski Wagon first.....)
  22. well, I took off the trailing arm today, and put on one from Mr. DeMoss. fit nicely. greased the bearings. and started on rear disc brake conversion too.... but need new pads... and I think I found out why this one locked up. it appears that the cone washer was welded to the drum! it's all welded and somebody did some grinding too. there's a big nail through the axle nut. they probably cooked all the grease out. the other side is all stock looking, and the bearings are fine there....
