  1. so you're gonna keep the pushbutton shift linkage to use with the RX tranny?
  2. nah, you just need some skinny mud tires. the last slick mud like that I was on at castana, my skinny little mudders did great, as did the other guys with skinnier tires, but the big swampers just slid all over the place. and there was a sami/jeep there, but it was geared for rocks, and he couldn't get enough wheel spin to clean the mud out....
  3. yeah, they'll shake and shudder till you blow the cup out, then you just pop it into 4WD and go another 150 miles
  4. I know for sure there are at least 2 left in the US. there was one on a Brat on eBayabout a year ago, and I used to have one that was on a 78 I sold last year....
  5. the switch was usually in the right most hole on the left side.
  6. I think you'll need to use Legacy Turbo rear axles.
  7. there is someone is the states who has one. they used to be on the board long ago.... they had all the parts shipped over from Australia to do the swap....
  8. oh, lots of people. it was a busy interstate right on the edge of town
  9. that was actually an idea submitted in one of the off-road mags a year or 2 ago. comments were about how high it would be, and the custom axles needed to handle all the movement that would be possible... sure you wouldn't just rather have my toy solid axles and t-case ?
  10. actually, about a day of noises. there was no wheel movement like you see on bad front bearings. I drove it 210 miles from my parents house to mine. no problems or detectable noises... I pulled the rear axle, and could hear some noises when I spun the tire. didn't think much of it, since I drove my Yukon with rear bearings going out for 22k miles...
  11. here's what the fuel filters looked like....
  12. going 70 on the interstate..... well, provided you keep driving/drag the vehicle to the next exit which was about 1.5 miles away or so....
  13. as I was cleaning the inside of the door ways, that dark blue paint there was so pretty. the frame rails on this one are all solid. the body rust that is there seems to be really fixable... unlike lots of other soobs I've had... I put my 86 away into storage yesterday. the city could be salting the streets this coming week, so time to put it away....
  14. and actually, that one stayed in the lifted 87 wagon when I sold it to my buddy Russ. he loved it in the mud.... I have another VLSD, but have never put the stub axles in it yet....
  15. tonight, I swapped out the passenger side door glass (easier than pulling the crappy tint off the original glass) , and cleaned more of the interior. put in a new shoft boot and re-installed the consoles... put new shocks on it, and a maroon tailgate. for the tailgate trim, I used an extra side piece I had, and a tin snips. looks... ummm... okay. will keep the water out of the inside of the tailgate at least.
  16. I've got a yakima basket, but there's a Ski Wagon attached to it
  17. if you look at the 4x140 wheels page (under 80's subarus from the home page), there should be a diagram on what the backspacing is for the stock ea82 wagon wheel steels. using that number, you should be able to determine the offset you will want....
  18. good to see the circle is complete on the black brat!!!!!!! congrats...
  19. from the Homepage, if you go to the 80's subarus page (link on left hand side) there's a link to pics from ProjectRudy there's a pic of the Safari Rally Hatch there, plus lots of other cool pics. not sure if those are the ones you're thinking of though....
  20. or, if you have a spare main driveshaft to the rear, you can stick it in the end of the tranny, put the tranny in 4WD. have someone count the number of revolutions of the stub shaft when you spin the rear shaft 10 times... (I think this will work....)
  21. correct. do you have a spare non-turbo front axle laying around. if it fits on the stub shafts, it's a 3.90......
