EA71 Intake manifolds
actually, I was more interested in any length differences. I got a spare manifold from Syrinx today, and was comparing it to the length of an ea81 manifold, which was considerably longer, so I was wondering how people had modified a ea71 dually to fit onto an ea81. (thus also determining, that my dually is in fact from the ea81) I'm gonna be putting a weber on the ski wagon, so I wanted a spare intake to use for the weber.

Bigger Carb for 85 brat.
you'll want a weber 32/36 and a soob adapter. there's a sticky thread in the off-road section dedicated to the webers....

EA71 Intake manifolds
are there any differences in the intake manifolds for the ea71, between the early ea71, and the "fat case" ea71 (80+)???

81 Brat Topper on an 85'?
if you cut 2" out of the legs that go to the wheel well on a gen1 rollbar, it will sit properly in a Gen2, but be a little narrower than a proper Gen2 bar...

81 Brat Topper on an 85'?
Gen1 (78-81) shells, will not fit Gen2 (82-87)... the Gen2's are about 4" wider.

Will These Body Parts Fit On My Brat?
while it is true, that a '82 fender will fit, the antenna hole is on the driveres side (80-82) and the passenger side (83+) the '85 GL 3dr coupe (ea82) has different fenders. the only 85+ fenders that will work, will be hatchback or Brat. otherwise, you need 83-84 fenders (any model)

Rear Windscreen vertical metal supports on Brat
Ken had it right. to block cargo from coming through the rear window.... in the US, in 86/87 when we didn't get the jump seats anymore, they put short bars there for that purpose, and in fact did move the mounts spots inward, and closer to the window edge....

Can I switch distributors?
yes. I put a Electronic disty from a 83 Brat ea81, into a 1980 ea71 that originally had the ignitor

I can fling more mud now from my RF tire....
I took my skid plate off, and replaced the oil sender unit tonight. it was bent and dented glad I had the skid plate on, but I've gotta come up with something different now... also, I'm going back to a weber. the Holley did better than the weber on some of the downhill off camber stuff, and some of the uphill stuff too, but I just had to keep the revs too high, so there was no put-putting around.

older school RX?
it was never sold here. that's the one that had the 1800 with dual carb intake.... actually, I believe the heads and cam were different as well, as it was a dual port exhaust. the intake and exhaust valve placement was switched on the heads (thus the cam difference)

twisted sleeves...
well, wasn't actually me. this came out of a '83 Brat I bought and parted. only had 86k on it.... I heard it run briefly, but with a bad exhaust leak. it had gas tank issues, so I had it towed home then stripped it, so I never heard it run again until I put the motor into the 87 wagon I used to have, then had to pull it back out because of the knock.

twisted sleeves...
the twisted sleeves.... cylinders 1 and 3 of a ea81 block... you can just barely see the access hole for the wrist pin on the left side of the sleeve cut-out... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8142&sort=1&cat=530&page=1 and this is the other cylinder, where you can really see it better... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8141&sort=1&size=medium&cat=530&page=1 this was a block I tore apart after it got a rod knock... the rod bearing was totally gone!!!

Cyclops light - WTF?
all the 82's I've had it worked on hi's but my 80 wagon works on both or just low... it was standard equipment on the GL 4WD models (as listed in Austin's post)

I can fling more mud now from my RF tire....
we have a winner. I was on a very steep and long hill climb, and I couldn't make the last bit of it because it got steeper, and I kept flooding out with the carb. I decided there was a flat enough area to turn around in, so I cranked the wheels, and backed into a 4" diameter tree, that wedged itself behind the e-brake cable/caliper, and the fender. was too much of a incline to get the brat started again, then the starter locked on me. I used my winch to stabilize me, while 3 of us took turns with the fold up tree saw to remove it. after removal, it was decided the best way to get me out of the situation was to winch me to the top. my winch wasn't enough because of the grade, so a sami went up around me, and pulled from the top. once I got up there, we fiddled around a bit and got the starter un-stuck, and it fired right up. I was able to turn around an go back down fine... I think a few more of the dents I have came from the trip up, as I was WOT, I grazed a few trees on the way up, and folded in the pass side mirror, and broke something, as it's loose as well... as some time during the weekend, I slammed the front of the skid plate, and bent my oil sender guage. it's leaking, but only drips.... yes, the Timber Ridge run this year was great. last year, when Morgan was there, we only had about 25-30 vehicles, but this year we had 57! suprised a lot of people with what I was able to do with the brat...
