  1. yep, that will be the kit you want if you're going the kit route... the linkage kit that comes with it is nice too. I've not always used it before, but it makes it easier on a ea81 body vehicle. for putting it on the ea82 with FI throttle cable, I had to modify (bend) the bracket quite a bit for the lenth of the cable, but it still worked out okay...
  2. 80-82 all had the orange gauges. not rare. you can see the line breaks up differently to show redline... also, up thru '82, headlights did not shut off with the ignition. they were totally independent....
  3. the ones that have been the sketchiest for me, where ones where the gaskets had seeped coolant into the bolt area, and dried, creating the sort of heat fused crust in the threads... whenever I put the bolts back in, I always wire wheel them shiny and anti-seize them... and new good intake manifold gaskets...
  4. you need to soak the snot out of the intake manifold bolts and go really slow or you'll be going through the same thing with a busted bolt into the heads....
  5. if it was 4wd, then I think yes, but not sure. The only C/W I've had was off a '84 2wd wagon. I had an '82 2wd wagon that was a hitachi, and all the other '82's I've had were hitachis. I've had another '82 2wd, but it was a coupe with an AT, and it was a hitachi as well...
  6. weld a washer onto the stud then place a larger nut over the stud and weld the nut to the washer. that's how my exhaust guy pulls busted off exhaust studs... and sometimes, a reverse drill bit will work the same as an extractor as it's cutting into the metal... I think my extractors are craftsman brand. I used one the other day for an oil pump bolt...
  7. yep, or drill a small pilot hole, then use a reverse extractor... and if you really much things up, then you get a different hitachi intake manifold... and then very carefully with lots of pb blaster / yield, etc.... remove the intake to head bolts....
  8. if you have the stock air intake that has the fitting for it. on most weber installations, that riser is chucked in the garbage if it even still exists...
  9. they also put USSA door logos on some of the ski wagons... http://www.indysworld.com/sale/ussa.jpg
  10. It was squirrelly like that because of the weight of the engine and trans in the back.
  11. that's just the raw unbridaled power of the ea81/weber combo
  12. it came down to ease/cost of maint. for the future. you'll need to burn through that gas soon too, and mix some fresh in...
  13. here. I set the video to public. it looks the same, but the AC comp and big lines are gone... http://www.facebook.com/v/434747213205345
  14. it doesn't look any different than it did before, unless you open the hood....
  15. I wonder if the gen2 rad fan temp switch works in a gen3 rad...
  16. Correct. Pictures of all three type are on my wheels page on the subarus of the 80s link in my sig.
  17. AC comp is removed and the 2 big section of hose connected to it. Needed to add a bit more power steering fluid. Hit the gravel road just outside of town. 4wd hi and low both work as well as all 5 speeds and reverse. Haven't done any fine tuning of the weber as its pretty decent right out if the box. The temp gauge isnt working. Put a relay in and wired the fan into it so its on all the time. But will be easy to add in a shutoff for it ...
  18. I merged the threads together and edited the first post to be the "new" one. as far as estimated value of the 14" set, I would say that 10 years ago there was probably a greater interest in them, but in the last 10 years there's been a drastic change in tires available in 14" size. I bought my 2 14" jackmans for $135 (from Spokane) and have been watching for more of them since 2005 and haven't seen any... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36117 I would have paid big money to complete my set or buy a full set, but now I don't even have anything that's 4x140.... there was another member (in AZ I think) who had some on his Gen1 Brat with lift, but I haven't seen him in a while, and never saw a good pic of them... "Legend has it" that they were part of the special package sold in 79 or so for the Gen1 Brat. Package included a lift kit and wheels. But if you're selling, mark me as interested I'm still thinking one day I'll lift a Gen1 Brat....
  19. it's on solid, but the clamping force is reduced on the side that the flange is rotated on... I had to use my bottoming tap to clean up and cut a few more threads since it seems a little loose when I put the studs in... but, the good thing with this engine is that the ASV spacers are still there, and can be tapped if the aluminum threads give it up in the head....
  20. yes if possible. I'll be around all day Saturday trying to cleanup the garage... Get a ride up with the guy who wants the engien/trans. I'm taking it to get the AC evacuated tomorrow afternoon. maybe today if I can leave work early enough.
