  1. you need to take the stub axles out. that's what requires the E-10 Torx socket. you may need to reassemble eveything first, so as to not damage the bearings on the carrier.....
  2. as long as your 85 D/R tranny isn't from a turbo, you will be fine with ea81 axles. (all ea81's are interchangeable though the turbo and 4wd oneswere thicker) if it's a turbo tranny (3.70) you'll need tomake/buy custom axles (several on the board have done it) for the rear you need to have ea81 axles. all 80's rear diffs are interchangeable as long as you have the ratio to match the tranny you may want to pick up some 4WD ea81 adjustable front struts too for a bit more ride height.
  3. the MOMO adapter for the gen1/gen2 soobs (7302) has a connector that the horn wire plugs into (provided the steering wheel you are putting on has a horn.....)
  4. I added the image with stuff circled to the write-up in the USRM...
  5. I look after that page I grabbed the pics... might be a while before it gets updated, as I save them up and add 'em all at once.... actually, the factory 13 pic you have is on the page, but it's a really crappy pic. those were the Shelby Alloys. the other is definitely not on the page.... thanks, Mick
  6. here's the MFG part numbers Steering Wheel Adapters Grant ------------------------------------- Gen1/Gen2 Subarus P/N: 6596 Momo Wheel to Grant Hub P/N: 4009 Momo ------------------------------------- Gen1/Gen2 Subarus P/N: 7302 Gen3 P/N: 7303 sounds good John
  7. the grant website shows no kit for ea82 type vehicles.... here is a momo to grant adapter.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42612&item=7954179716&rd=1
  8. so you gonna bring all those soobs to Iowa
  9. his silver turbo wagon has a 3" byb lift on it, but only 195/75R14 tires I think on the pugs......
  10. all of the captive nuts may not be there, but that swap has been done lots of times. you will want the 4WD suspensions, as well as the gas tank, unless you lift it at least 4" at the same time. (the 4WD tank has theindent to allow for the rear diff... I'm sure others will chime in with more things.....
  11. I know a long time ago, there was talk about using silicone hoses for the coolant line from the turbo, because of the resistance to heat, etc.... well, I had some that I used to plumb in the coolant to my water choke weber. I've made a couple 25-30 mile non-stop runs, sit for a couple hours then another 25-30 miles back.... well, Monday on my way home from work, sitting at a stop light, the wagon just quits on me. temp guage was fine, but smoke started pouring out the front. the truck behind me pushed me through the intersection until I could coast into the convenience store/gas station on the other side... pop the hood, and one of the coolant hose had burst... so after a few trip into the store, and 1 trip to an auto parts store on the previous block, I was back in business. after dousing my disty cap with WD-40 since it was full of coolant, and the cause of the engine stop. nice fail-safe in this instance I replaced the burst line with a re-inforced hose (fuel line type). tonight I replaced the other hose. here's what the silicone hose looked like... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=4337&sort=1&cat=530&page=1
  12. I bet there would be... I'm looking to do something. I only have speeds 3 & 4 currently. 2 does nothing, and 1 makes a burning odor eminate from the vents
  13. I have gone through the different threads I could find on this very popular topic, and tried to consolidate them here.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/mick/mick-usrm/resistor-pack/resistorpack.html it is accessible through the USRM as well. If I have gotten stuff out of order, or there is something that needs added/changed/deleted, please let me know....
  14. if you put in the ea81, you can put a weber 32/36 carb on it to help out the power loss. my 87 wagon runs really well with a ea81 and weber....
  15. the 85-86 RX's had the part time 4WD (FWD, 4HI, 4LOW) just like the wagons, just didn't have the same low range gear. there was no center diff to lock... essentially when you engage 4WD, you are locking into a spool.
  16. Update with the Wagon now... These are the 3 I have currently: and one muddy shot Here's my previous ones....
  17. mine has the color on the bottom half on front and rear. It's an 87 GL.... from the brochures page, (pics only) those that got colored bumpers 85 GL-10 86 None 87-89 All GL, GL-10 90-94 (Loyale) None but that's just looking at the brochure pics...... probably some discrepancies
  18. yes, that is correct.... it's to help keep the shift linkage higher so you don't need to fab anything for it....
  19. you can use the rear hub/trailing arms/axles from any soob that has the same front end as your Brat (80-84 wagons, sedans, coupes; 82-93 Brats; 80-89 hatchs) some 83 and all 84s had vented front disc brakes like yours. you can also swap in the rear disc brakes from any 85-89 Turbo soob....
  20. actually, the more I thought about this in the past, the more convinced I am that we just get lucky.... when I did mine, I moved the side caps/shims from the 3.70 along with the LSD carrier and bearings on it, so that the bearings were matched up with the shims... (actually, it was because I had already mixed up the 3.90 side caps, but keeping the 3.70 stuff with it sounded better to me ) just thoughts....
