  1. not sure if the ea82/ER27 is similar, but the ea81 has a bolt near the middle of one of the head mounts that goes through the block. it's recessing in about 3-4", so I didn't see it. I beat the snot out of the block, and nothing. on advice from ShawnW I found that bolt and took it out, and the block split really easily.... again, this was on a ea81.....
  2. For Now I have some other plans for my 82 Brat that might require some funds..... It's nice to be back in a wagon though.... also, I can't believe how much better the heater works in this thing, compared to any ea81 I've had... the plan was for this wagon to be my daily driver through the winter oh well, better late than never...
  3. well, after just over 1 year of "down time" Svengouli7's old wagon is up and fully functional again.... see post here... I'll try to get some pics Wednesday..... it looks really cool with the wheels/tires combo I have on it.... it's running now with a weberized hydraulic lifter ea81 from a 86 Brat. also has a ea81 radiator in it too.... also running an ea81 PS pump... I tried to put a ea81 from a 83 Brat in it, and that motor had a bad rod bearing (it was totally gone). so next I got a 86 parts brat, yanked the motor, but the exhaust studs had welded themselves into the emissions spacer. while getting it off, I ended up damaging the head (drivers side), so I ended up using the drivers side head from the 83 engine to replace the broken on one the 86 engine. all is good now... even got some new wipers for it tonight I will be adding some more stuff to it as well - brushguard - Yakima rack/basket - Replace VLSD with regular LSD - dust wing Have already added: - MSD Coil - Amp and MTX Road Thunder Boxes in the rear cargo area **** Edit pics here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=4020&size=big&sort=1&cat=640
  4. it's E & B Salvage. Ed is his name. sells stuff at decent prices. I've gotten stuff from that yard on 2 of my trips out to WA.... (sis-in-law used to live on Whidbey)
  5. I'd like to, but I don't have a big enough vinyl cutter.... the originals were screen printed, then cut (similar to the Brat Targa stripes)
  6. they used factory white wagons. All the color was through decals. My set came from a Subaru office somewhere near the mountains, and were supposedly a prototype set... There are some sights where you can get new US Ski Team decals, but have not seen anything for the older ones..... I have talked with a rep from the USSA and he said there were hundreds of the Ski Wagons over the years, but when they sold the older ones at auctions, they normally stripped off the decals. Mine slipped through the cracks somehow....
  7. My Wagon was the 80-84 body style. I unfortunately cannot make that big of a decal needed to fully replicate them... I'll try to find the pics of the Gen1 decals tonight Here's the 1980 Ski Wagon that was on eBay... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/mick/gallery/webski/skisoob.html
  8. Yep, the one on eBay was mine.... I do have a few original Gen1 door decals in the same shape as the one on the door of the 76 ski wagon, but they are not the US flag style. mine have a white "S" with red on one side of the S and blue on the other side, and then "4WD" is in the middle flat part of the "S"...
  9. I've had good luck installing them on the 80-84 wagons, just by measuring the distance between the holes in the wings, divid in half, then measure over from the nozzle (if it's centered) make your marks on both sides. then measure from mark to mark to make sure it's the same distance as the wing holes.... I'll be doing this soon on my 87 as well..... need to repain the wing first though.....
  10. they do come out, but I've broken more than have come out cleanly.... usually the torx head is so rusted I have to use a wrench on the outside.... lot's of PB Blaster or Yield, and let it soak..... heat also will help..... If I already have them on, I usually will leave them on, then (if the normal exhaust stud holes are stripped out, I just tap new threads into the metal spacers....
  11. mine is almost ready... had some engine issues, but should be solved. just gotta put it back together
  12. should be a pretty easy swap. you will need the steering rack from a ea81 bodied vehicle, and the PS pump/brackets and lines. and I would also grab the linkage from the rack up to the steering column shaft. your 87's passenger side head should already have the holes for mounting the pump. after the swap is complete, you'll need an alignment.
  13. pattern is too small. that's a redrilled hub. there was someone on your side of the planet that was redrilling them to that size....
  14. the lifters are riding on the cam in the block. the pushrods are different. all ea81T's and ea81's mated to automatics in 84, plus any 85+ ea81 all had hydraulic lifters. possibly even the 83's mated to an AT... all the hydro blocks had the larger port heads, however, the larger port heads starting showing up before the hydro lifters. last night I had to replace a damaged head on a 86 Brat hydro motor. I replaced it with a head from a 83 solid lifter engine, but retained the original hydro rockers and pushrods. the 83 head had the larger valves. There were only some slight cosmetic differences in the head castings. the differences are in the short block. not sure of the details though.... (something like you can put solid lifters into a hydro block, but not the other way around....)
  15. Waldo arrived safely just before 7am CST this morning. all items for drop off are now in my garage, and we moved the tow dolly from the back of the trailer to the front. Exploder looks much happier now, but still wishes for better suspension Next Stop: Denver...
  16. well, I decided to give the 86 Brat motor another go. I yanked the intake off it, and pulled the head with the easy out stuck in it (and some head damage at the exhaust stud holes ) used the good head from the 83 Brat motor that was in it for all of 10 miles.... put the stripped down weberized intake on it, and started putting the accessories back on it.... more work Friday night
  17. Pat is on his way here still. taking his time, and catching some zzzzzs along the way. plans on being to my house between 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM Friday.
  18. Waldo was just south of Kansas City headed for Des Moines, at around 9:00 PM Central Time. KC is only 3 hours away....
  19. The SRX Hatchback was the rally-spec vehicle that was sold in Europe.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/projectrudy/srx2.jpg
  20. this is on a 86 Brat ea81 with 190k miles (but compression is about 165 all around. at this point, I just put the whole engine aside, and started working on putting the intake and acceories on the long block you just dropped off....
  21. I know the blocks are different for the solid or hydro lifters, and the hydro lifter heads use the larger valves, but is there any difference in the heads from a large valve solid lifter head to the hydro lifter head? I have about 7 spare heads at the moment...
