Differences between Loyale 1.3 and 1.8 engines?
mcbrat replied to Tee_Koo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
there actually were 1100 and 1300 engines as well. the 1100 came in the FF1's... -
EA81 SPFI conversion and more horsepower/torque??
mcbrat replied to greggbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
no. all ea81/ea81T intakes head ports are the same. same as the ea82 carb/SPFI ports. (that's why the SPFI manifold bolts right up to the ea81 heads.... however the ea82T intake head ports are different. -
all ea81/ea81T front axles will interchange, but some are heavier made than others...

I have a small compressor from the Air Susp system on a mid 80's Caddy. if you heep the hose short it will work okay. not speedy, but provides air.... I have one of those yellow coil up hoses on it, but I think having such a long hose with the small psi doesn't work too well.... I have extra wire with it, so I can wire it to the battery or off a 12V socket.

Whats the 'best' Subie to start with??
mcbrat replied to 4RnrRick's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yes, you could get a D/R with SPFI. my 5 speed D/R an my brat came from a '89 SPFI wagon.... no more carbs in US after '87. D/R was available through '89. -

the front axles have a DOJ (Dual offset Joint) on the inner tranny side, and a CV on outer side -
I have RX springs on the front of my 82 Brat. with new struts and the RX springs it lifted the front end over an inch. I have a modified lift, and even with the RX springs and susp cranked up all the way, my axles are holding up. (though you really should urethane your tranny mounts too. the axles are almost at max extension, so any side movement of the tranny will quickly shorten the life of the axles....) and yes, my Brat is stiff with the susp cranked up in front with RX springs, and a clocked torsion bar in back....

all factory turbos were 3.70 final 85-87 Turbo w/D/R 5 spd (RX and special orders) 3.70 final ratio (low range 1.2) 85-89 NA D/R 5 spd vehicles w/ a 3.90 final ratio (wagons) low range 1.592) (I seem to recall that some 3 door coupes non-RX having the 1.196 low range as well.... but don't have any concrete evidence of that) 83-84 Wagons w/D/R 4 speed 3.90 final, low range 1.462) 84-87 Brats D/R 4 speed 3.90 final, low range 1.462) all above trans used a 225 mm clutch 80-82 D/R 4 speeds had the 200 mm clutch 83 Brat D/R had the 200 mm clutch the 81-82 D/R had lower 3rd and 4th gears than 83-84 so are a little better on the highway in maintaining power. -

a lot of the swap procedures are in the USRM - Repair & Mod section now... disk brake conversion 5 speed conversion into a ea81 vehicle making a 3.90 LSD -
is your intake air flow totally un-restricted? I had a "similar feeling" problem, but it was my intake. mine was carbed, so I took the intake/filter off, and ran with the top of the carb open. worked perfectly. I just wasn't getting enough air, and it was choking itself... then I found a different intake for high RPM use.

mcbrat replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had one Super Stock coil fail on me, bought another and it was fine. in 2 other vehicles I run the Super Coil (square block looking one) and have had no issues at all.... -

need pic of torsion bar and adjuster
mcbrat replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Denis, there's no way you'll move that torsion adjustment bolt. too much rust. your best bet, would be to put on the rear coil-overs out of your wagon, and cut off the triangle. follow this... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/mick/mick-usrm/Strutsinrear/strut.html -
yes, that chart is wrong.......

The Gen1 I will have available will just be the word "Brat" like the Gen2 ones I have. no stripes. Ed Dahl has done an awesome job of replicating the OEM stripes for the Original Brat look. I have bought 3 sets from him. They are a great deal for the price. I will not be making any full length OEM Brat decals.

I thought (and according to the site) that the only 4"/3" lift available was for the ea81 bodies....
-
some people with limited mobility like the higher stance the body lift provides. much easier to get in and out of a car that sits higher....
