  1. here is the list of gear ratios from the 82 FSM... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/specs/mechanical/gears.html
  2. I just always get new ones. sometimes for just slightly more than the cost of turning them, I find 'em on eBay.....
  3. the rear calipers push in though.... no slots to turn them... although the way I pushed them in, they could have been turning I suppose.....
  4. I even use 5th occasionally on the interstate. can't go any faster really, but saves on fuel a little.... I don't even like getting into my 86 any more!!!!!
  5. I had to use a vice grips on my first weber install. the vice grips kept spinning on the stud, so I tightened it up and squeezed it on... it was so tight that in the process of squeezing it so hard, a bone popped out of place in my neck... that smarted!!!!!!
  6. I've got the 140 mains as well, but I'll be going back to my 155s since the problem I had was air related before. I was running my 155s at the midwest meet this year... lots of low end, just didn't have the clutch. that problem is taken care of too I'm getting 17-18 mpg with mine right now. it still feels like I'm running short of air at the extreme top end.... but I will say that I love my 5 speed, much more than my original '82 4 speed from my Brat...
  7. yes, it will handle weight a lot better. I put rear coilovers in a unlifted brat. they lifted it up about 2" and it didn't sag with a load either. my torsion bar was broken is why I did mine and there wasn't enough metal to attempt to take the old one out and hope the captive nuts would still be there depending on how you make your mounts though, you may not need a 3" lift with the coil-overs. I have my torsion bar adjusted in my 82, and it's a ton stiffer in the rear too...
  8. if it has hydraulic lifters it would be JDM
  9. how about using a modified DOJ Cup off the front tranny stubs to make a PTO that you could use to drive a winch, etc.... while in Soobie 2WD mode.....
  10. you can tap off the dust caps off the old axles on the donor (if it has them) and put them on the new axles. not necessary, but good to have to help protect the seals from road hazards, gravel, etc.....
  11. you can buy new stub axles for the early Turbo Legacy VLSD (go in with a C-Clip), but when you see the dealer, with the seals and packing parts, it will be around $350.00 or subaruparts.com had 'em for about $250 But I cannot say for sure if they will work. the internal VLSD parts is what needs the stub axles.... might be interesting to see if the internals could be modified carefully to allow a bolt in stub.....
  12. I got some Windo-weld at Advance Auto Parts.... here's a page on home made mounts as well... http://importnut.net/motormount.htm I did both my tranny mounts and my motor mounts. they are very solid now. as in ALMOST NO MOVEMENT. I can shake the car by grabbing onto the oil filler tube. I did not drill holes through the rubber though, just cleaned them up really good, and filled in all the other areas with the urethane. I had another good set of tranny mounts that I used, since my originals were so deformed. my axles are lasting better now, as before the tranny mounts were totally disintegrated and I kept over extending them from the side to side tranny movement. With the motor mounts done too, I have a more vibration in the cab. But I don't get hardly any front end raise when taking off....
  13. correct. the non-vented pads are a bit thicker and if you put them in place the caliper will not fit over them when re-installing....
  14. if the 82 is a 4WD (large rectangular style) then it would be a much easier swap. the 82 2WD's with the quad headlights would involve a lot more cutting on the front support.....
  15. and remember, you guys restoring the old ones, if you need the decals for the bottom of the doors like you have, I should be able to do them rather easily.....
  16. cool. I have some NOS FF1 tail lights I've been saving for somebody to come along and need them. If your friend is in need of any, let me know, and I will try to determine exactly which ones I have....
  17. I have lots of other soob logos too will also do non-soob stuff as well (gotta pay for the cutter somehow since my wife if still wondering where the hell my new decal hobby came from )
  18. granted my price is a little more, but you can get any custom wording and old or new soob logos on a windscreen decal, and support the board at the same time... see link in sig.... plus if it's really 8" tall, you might have some issues on old soob, as there's not much winshield there to begin with.... about 4" is perfcet for old soobies.....
  19. okay, either going out Saturday, or Monday will be: Numchux SubaSkeet Calebz Subynut Viehmann Northguy This officially catches me up with all paid orders. If you haven't paid yet, let me know either way if you still want them or not..... thanks, Mick
  20. be sure to check your tranny mounts. even if you weren't lifted, but had your suspension cranked up, with bad mounts, you will tend to blow the right side axle often.... I urethaned my tranny mounts in my '82 Brat with the 5" lift, and the axles have been good. no side to side tranny movement at all but I do notice a lot more torque steer....
  21. Denis, I have a spare ea81 bar here. $5 but are you sure you can mount it? can you get the hanger "un-bent" in order to use a ea82 hanger, you would have to use the ea82 mount brackets, andattach them to your brat perfectly, so that the diff was perfcetly centered.... I wouldn't try that in a million years with your brat
  22. my temp solution for bad pump wiring was to hook up a wire to a cig lighter adapter, and plug it into a 12V socket (Cig) and run the wire out the rear slider, and down through a bed drainage hole to the pump... been running that way for a while now while I try to get some other crap done.....
  23. should be easy to replace, but you should check if it's the fuel pump control unit first. take along enough wire to reach the battery, and hardwire the existing fuel pump. it might still work...
  24. ea82 PS pump mounted to ea81 motor? can it be done? talking pump only....
  25. okay. the list below is what is packaged up to go. should go out Tuesday.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/mick/decals/Shipped.htm I still have more reverse ones to make, and some of the bigger ones yet to fill out the paid orders....
