  1. trying to decide what size tires to put on my 86... I sort of like the looks of this size.... I can go bigger, but not sure I want to..... and the answer is..... before http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/mick/gallery/86brat/before.jpg after http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/mick/gallery/86brat/after.jpg after lightening up the image to see the tires better http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/mick/gallery/86brat/after2.jpg I ended up going with 205/70r14 Dayton Quadra SE's for the tread pattern.....
  2. the tire calc page says your speedo is 9.9% too slow.... so 65 speedo = 71.4 actual http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html those aren't off-roading tires They are Dayton Quadra SE's: 205/65R15
  3. here's the wheels page: (click thumbnails for larger image) http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/wheels.html This is the pictorial listing of all the wheels that we have found over the past several years that fit the 4x140 pattern... I'm sure there are more out there, so I always welcome pics of new wheels to be added to the page.
  4. Joe, you should be able to load them here.... http://usmb.net/gallery/Midwest-2
  5. Donations can be made exactly like donations to the board, just put in a note it's for the recovery expenses. if paypal is used, go through the normal donation screens. if snail mail, send to: Ultimate Subaru Club 6208 Holcomb Ave. Des Moines, Ia 50322
  6. well, we talked about airing down, but those that needed to were already belly deep in the mud already
  7. and it's gotta be a '81 GL Brat. they came with the 1800 D/R. the DL came with the 1600 S/R.
  8. I never even got a chance to pull anybody. I got stuck turning around on the softer sides of the "road" and smoked my clutch pretty good. after letting it cool a bit, I got unstuck and made it back to the van where Tim had already hooked up and was starting to pull forwards towards the rest of the group. I didn't feel I had enough clutch left to try and turn around again, so I went back out the way we came in. I have a replacement tranny at my house now (5 speed finally), so now I need to do something for the axles...
  9. $15 a side is a good price for decals thay already have made up. With the time it takes to reproduce items, I wouldn't expect the price to be $15 per side on a reproduction job unless you have all the artwork done and in the proper format for them. if there is a particular edcal you are wanting for a soob, let me know. I can do 6"x39" sections, so something similar to stupidru's should be doable. I have white and black right now, but can get other colors as needed....
  10. yeah, this one is just Grizzly4x4 RedLance had a XT6 at the meet. (and a Van)
  11. I added names to the car lineup pics.... http://usmb.net/gallery/Midwest-2
  12. I'll try to add names on the photo page under the photos link
  13. I've got all the parts in the plastic baskets they were in at the meet, plus I've got a suprise for the sedan you guys picked up Denis, let me know when you are stopping by.....
  14. my turbo brat has been run the last 75k with Mobil 1 synthetic, and no oil leaks, and runs awesome...... has 122k on motor.
  15. Scott,it is THE one if you have any info on it, I'd love copies http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1200&item=3182094259 thewinch is a S4500
  16. well, on a stock set-up, if you run with the suspension cranked up, you will putmore stress on the axles. now imagine that with another inch of suspension lift. that, plus no sway bar, and mud tires. (and bad bearings). the axle I blew at the midwest meet, started going bad on the way there. (coincidence maybe...) but I just put it in like 3 days earlier....... with that much susp. lift (I also had my adjustment bolts all the way up...) the DOJ is basically fully extended, and it can't take very long like that.....
  17. yeah, that was all there for the midwest meet, but nothing to hook onto. THe ground clearance and mud tires saved me... yeah, that's where the pipe is from..... yes, the ea81 and ea82 springs are the same dimensions, so they will interchange... the RX springs gained me just over an inch in height, but expect to replace an axle each time out......
  18. Hugo, it's a total custom job, made from metal salvaged from a John Deere combine corn head, and custom bent tubing..... it's pretty heavy though. I put RX springs on, and they countered the weight nicely.
  19. pics of my updated bumper, etc... and another RC I picked up http://usmb.net/gallery/album238
  20. DJ, the stubs out both sides of the front are for the front wheel. if 4WD, it will have a spot for a rear driveshaft in the back. In your original post about your tranny, you said it was a 1980 ea81, and all the 1980 4WD had the 1600 ea71 motors...
  21. Matt, there's at least one from when we stopped at the church/cemetary.... 47 and 48. kind of far away though.... http://usmb.net/gallery/Midwest-2
  22. for sure I have more gray on my sides than 3 years ago, plus more popping up in my beard now too no one drove on the grounds. we all came down the road, and pulled into that formation for some pics, then headed for the La Brea Mud Pits
  23. group photo has been added with a few more pics.... http://usmb.net/gallery/Midwest-2/IMG_2418
  24. nope. it's a 83 wagon. his sig has a link to more pics of it....
