Did JohnCD ever get back to Milwaukee? Another board member and subaru fanatic showed up Sunday at the park from Milwaukee WI, at the same time I was retrieving the parts up there. He met some of the remaining people at the campground, then him and Shawn followed me home with my noisy tranny. John picked up some parts from me for his Brat restoration before he headed for WI....

email me, and I'll forward you the report.....

there are plenty of areas in Iowa with trees, but this was just a minimum maintainance road between some fields. just too much rain to be on them The County Sheriff will be sending the bill to the Ultimate Subaru Club via Shawn and I. The bill will depend on the County, and what they have to do to fix the roads after the rigs are pulled out. The Cop/Farmer will be pulling them out with a trac vehicle he has... after it gets dry enough to get in there with it....

those are 70's vintage for sure....

There was only one tree and it was at the turn in the road. it was also perfectly flat, so no winching would have been able to help in the goo. Tim had swampers, and I had my bfg MT's, and I think Tim is running LSD just as I am... I only got pics Saturday at the spot between the mud roads. and Sunday before the law showed up... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/mick/gallery/mw2pics/mw2pics.html

I'm home an unpacked.... my right front axle finally gave out totally as we were leaving the county, and I had the fuel pump die on me twice, and the left rear axle either give up, or just pretend. straight roads helped a lot. actually was a lot smoother once the front axle totally gave out... then the rear one was acting up. "jumping around" is how Shawn described it as he followed me, and the rattling in the trans got worse and worse. it's extremely loud right now... and many pops and cracks as it moves.... I have some pics. will try to get a page up tomorrow of them..... no close ups of the mud though. Tim and I both tried to get turned around to help out RedLance in the Van, but I got stuck turning around, and fried my clutch, then I finally got free, and got to the van where Tim already had him hooked up, and started to pull him. there was no way I could get turned around again, so I crawled out the way we came in, and went to the other end where the other 3 came out... I think there is 9 from our group stuck yet (4 got out) and one of the would be rescuers in a big truck blew something too, and his rig is stuck out there....

it's a good deal in my book. here's the last thing I got for $200... http://usmb.net/gallery/album93/PDC_0111 right door was totally caved in. gas filler tube was wrapped with saran wrap, doors flapped in the wind, tranny had the 3rd gear synchro issue and plenty of rust all over the place. tailgate rust wasn't too severe, but it was dented... all with only 86k on the clock I save from it: 86k motor grill tailgate t-tops drivers side window rear slider jump seats/frame the motor was my main goal, since it's $350-500 for a junk yard motor around here...

put RX springs on your struts. it will give you almost 1.25" over stock (but put more pressure on your axles) -
and also, as an FYI.... RX springs do fit on EA81 struts and it will lift the body up almost 1.25" when you do it
-
at least you have the option of buying the whole thing.... around here, they can't sell the whole thing once they go in (unless it's a small mom & pop type operation)
