  1. the rear shocks can just be extended, but the front strut spacer block will have to have the mount bolts/holes off-set to maintain camber. actual strut top needs to be as close to the inner fender wall as possible. you can look at http://www.subarubrat.com for how he did his strut tops. bigger, but same idea can be used....
  2. the only ones I've seen in 390mm have been the striped style wheels.....
  3. I've got the big Accel SuperCoil on my turbo Brat. works well. my previous turbo brat had a 1984 ea81 4 speed 4wd tranny installed with a ea81 LUK 225mm (8 7/8") clutch kit. never had any slippage issues, but did bust an axle cup once but it had 30" tires on it..... the motor had the heads shaved just a bit too.
  4. I did it freaks way the first time. 3 hours of benching the tranny wears on your arms the second time, I used a floor jack, lots of 2x8 short pieces, and a bungee cord I was able to get the tranny up, and slide blockes under the front and back to help raise it up/stabilize it... once high enough, I set the bottom front of the tranny on the engine crossmember, and blocked the back end up. then using wood blocks with the floor lift, go the tranny to the right height, and used the bungee to attach it to the hood/something sturdy above the engine compartment. (not to hold it, but for a little added stability. then I loosened all the pressure plate bolts, so the clutch could move with little effort, but still stayed in place... then raised/lowered tileted to match up, and pulled on the floor jack, and it slid right in. after securing the bell housing/tranny together, then I went back and tightened the PP bolts in the correct pattern.torque settings, through the starter hole. if you've got a buddy to help, it'll make it that much easier.....
  5. okay, we know that in 82, the 1800 4wd had the smaller clutch 200 mm, and also the flywheel and release bearing are smaler than the 84+ 1800 4wd... 83 was the "switch year", in that the GL wagon 4wd, got the front vented rotors, and the larger 225mm clutch and release bearing. (input shaft is bigger on tranny, and the bearing holder is different) the 83 Brat GL though, still had the solid rotors, and smaller clutch.... (I just pulled original Subaru parts off a 86k '83 Brat GL to verify....) the question: Did the 83 Brat still have the lower gearing for 3rd and 4th, like the 82 Tranny?
  6. original post... Date: Saturday April 3rd, 2004. (See bottom for date conflict, we may adjust date to April 10, 2004 instead, or April 17...) Location: Monona County, Iowa is the area. This county is located between Sioux City and Omaha/Council Bluffs. County features Preparation Canyon State Park and is part of the "Loess Hills." (pronounced "Luss") Loess Hills Other Loess Hills Attractions/Lodging This landform is unique to anywhere except China. The terrain is not typical flat farmland like the state is known for. The plan is do a tour drive of the area either originating at the State Park or ending at the State park, depending upon how many people are coming, when they are coming, and what direction they are primarily coming from. The drive will include interstate highway, gravel, County Road blacktop, small town streets and dirt roads. April is known for muddy conditions and we will try to allow for people that don't have 4wd Subaru's, or Subaru's that prefer to not get dirty, to have options for meeting up with us. After the tour drive we will do a show and shine back at the park. RC Brat races too. We will probably stop in Onawa during the drive to give everybody a chance to wash their Subaru's at a carwash if they wish. The State Park features include a campground. Iowa has pretty good campgrounds at its parks usually. Weather permitting some of us may be camping the night after the meet. Maps: 1) General Area so you can figure out where this is. 2) Detailed road map of the area. (Yellow highlighted areas are DIRT roads.) 3) Planned route for the "dirt road" portion of the tour is in orange alongside the roads on this map image I have added a Poll requesting an "RSVP" for the Event. Please comment in the thread here.
  7. If we can get the group here, I'm in for the campsite. Son says Tent, no cabin...
  8. taprack, the pug lug nuts have always fit on the soobie lugs with no problems.....
  9. Scott, that one will look much better than a stock one... the stock ones tubes are too small for your monster
  10. nice touch on the bedlined bedrails. sort of wish I still had mine.....
  11. did they have any vehicles tow strapped along with them
  12. the crew just left my place at 6:00 PM, armed with a phone number for a guy locally selling a 83 turbo wagon, and a 84 gl-10 sedan for cheap! then they'll be heading towards Shawn, another 2 hours east.... they also left with a few extra parts from my garage... good time. great to meet other board members....
  13. no, the ea82 has a different spline count than the ea81....
  14. give me a call on my cell 515-321-3709 or post here tomorrow, and I'll see if I can break away.....
  15. it is more erratic under load/revs, but still fluctuating in the same manner.....
  16. your ea81 flywheel should be turned to ea82 D/R specs..... a decent machine shop should have the specs......
  17. the Voltmeter, accessory stuff, and the brake fluid low light (problem with cap) all were flashing/fluctuating. the volts still stay above 12, but still erratic.... one thing that happened, was I lost all my radio station presets. the wire that powers that is direct from the battery... so it seems like it dropped enough to lose it... I think this has happened twice now. on my way home from work, all appeared fine.... thoughts?
  18. what's the estimated time for them to roll through DSM?
  19. ea81.... here's the site: http://www.rhinobuggies.com.au/ that's where Sweet82 got his plans, but he had to modify his for Left Hand Drive.....
  20. not stock, but there's probably been lots of people that have added them to the 86/87 models......
