ATTN MCBRAT re: important PM
mcbrat replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got it, but I'm guessing it was sent by someone else who has that address in their address book.... scan is clean here. I always keep it updated too.... -
along the way(updated road trip itenerary)
mcbrat replied to MilesFox's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
along I-80 in Iowa is a good route if parts might be needed.... I have a few in Des Moines. -
yes, sound like something I should add to the wheels page

I had a SuperStock 8140 go bad before as well, during a time where I blew out 3 alts in 4 months. I put a new 8140 in and an xt6 alt, and fixed one wiring problem, and it has been fine ever since. I went with the SuperCoil (big squarish looking one) for my 82. I have one on my turbo brat, and it's been there for a while, working fine....

some new pics... CB and "console"
mcbrat replied to mcbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm trying to find a better switch panel. I've got everything hooked up with soob connectors so I can move stuff around... I may try to put the switches in the area where the left dash speaker would be.... I ended up getting my Wood Console back from Grizzly after the new owner toaster the CD player.... it'll be up on eBay soon, as I'm doing a bunch of "house cleaning" -
or a lack of console. I had a slanted console, but decided this was better. sort of industrial looking also a comparison pic between my 82 lifted brat, and my turbo brat http://usmb.net/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album109

the hatch ones are smaller.

neither one of those fits. the 80-84 4wd wagon will be a match though

what wheels will fit my '78 Brat?
mcbrat replied to XSNRG's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the 80-84 style white spoke should be okay, but there was a change from 82 to 83 with the inside ring size. not sure if the offset changed... The 85-89 style rub on the rear trailing arm unless you use a spacer. I have a set of 4 of the 4 slot alloys from 1974 that will work too. they need some serious cleaning/bead blasting though, and no centercaps... $100 shipping included. -
What happened to the "Who's Who" page?
mcbrat replied to HillbillyLes's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Hi Les. welcome back... yeah, there are a few more people in MO that I can think of Syrinx EdAlexander brompy there were some name changes with the move to the new board, so the Who's Who page was just left over on EZBoard. maybe after this board is upgraded to the next version there will be an easier way to create something for a new Who's Who... -
I also found a font that is pretty close to the JUSTY font.

I have a '83 solid lifter ea81 sitting in my garage, and I'm wondering if I should keep it around because of how it failed a couple years ago... was a older lady one owner vehicle. (83 4wd wagon) only 55k on motor. it actually spun half of the front main bearing out. I removed it through the front crank seal opening! (some of you may remember the pic). since that piece of the beraring was gone, it knocked loudly, but was only run with the knock while in the garage trying to diagnose what happened, and only for a very brief time on a few occasions. I then just replaced the motor. my question: Do you think the motor would be worth rebuilding. the heads are good, and I have a cam I want to put in, but I'm concerned about what damage might have occurred from the knocking, and any oil depravation that led it to that end in it's short 55k life. any thoughts?

so now that it's finally warming up (almost into the 40's during the day, still freezing at night) I finally get to take my red brat out..... New heater core, and heater control valve, along with a new CB... it worked very nice still have a long list of stuff to do to it before the Midwest meet, but it will be there... was really a change going to the 1982 16" steering wheel after driving my wagon with the 12-13" steering wheel!!! thought I was driving a bus

thanks to Skip for some info. has led me to this, but still researching.... the one on the left is a RX7 injector, the one on the right, a Z car... http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/7/web/403000-403999/403158_41_full.jpg also found on another site: "Repaired fuel leak under maniford (injector o-rings). new injector o-rings, injector grommets, injector seals"
-
well, according to KingSprings.com the regular EA82 strut coils are the same as the EA81. though I believe the RX front coils were stiffer... for info on putting the ER27 into a "EA81" engine compartment, see http://www.subarubrat.com

thought I'd try here as well, even though it's for an Old Gen... Any ideas on if the black tip injector may have come in a soobie? The black tipped one has a higher flow rate, and is what I found on my turbo Brat. The white one is the standard one from the EA81T, and EA82T engines as far as I can tell. I need to replace one of mine, and am having trouble finding anything....

one more odd thing... when I was trying to start it, it at first acted like it lost compression through the injector hole too.... hmmm. could it be "blowing" the fuel back through the port so it looks like a leaking injector? I would think then that it wouldn't be firing on that cyl, but it doesn't seem to be missing..... hmmmm......
