  1. my 82 grizzly wagon had a weber from http://www.carbsunlimited.com and whatever jets they put in it. no return line, but I used a pressure regulator. always had crappy gas mileage 12-15) until I played more with the idle adjustment screw... general thought on the board was that this circuit wasn't used off idle, but that's not true. the primary jet just adds to the flow. I ended up turning the idle screw out way further than "specs", then re-adjusting everything else. ended up with more power, and better fuel mileage... my current 82 Grizzly Brat has a eBay ($70) old used weber 32/36 off a 1.9 litre Opel Manta. all I did was replace the accelerator pump diaphram, and install it. never touched jets or idle adjustment at all. no idea what the jets are. I used the return line fitting from the hitachi carb, and no PR. it absolutely screams in first and second gear. spins the 27" MT's right now. still pretty decent in 3rd, but 4th it seems like it might be starving for fuel a bit. top end is between 55 and 60 on the speedo (65-70 estimated) mileage is prob around 20. since it runs so good in 1 and 2, I've been hesitant to change anything....
  2. whippet is from UT. he just posted on another thread. first time I've seen him on the newboard...
  3. I edited the links... Brian, this board is just the opposite of the old one. Old Board: Link First, then text New Board: Text First, then link
  4. My 84 Turbo Brat was originally sold in PA, and went from there to MD before heading to Iowa...
  5. we got another 3" last night, but heavy and slushy with the temps today... did come up a slight incident though at a stop light. guy in rear was just getting out of his beater, going up to the blue WRX he just tagged.... didn't look like any/much damage....
  6. the gen1 4WD is high, but I think manual says no more than 50... there was someone on the board a while back who had their son or somebody drive like 70 with it in 4WD, and it trashed the trans....
  7. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/brats/brats.html look at the brat colors age. bound to be some rollbars in there... also, click the link in my signature for my soobs... under current subarus, there should be a ic of my 86 with the high roll bar, and under my 82 brat, there should be one of it with the low rollbar, and the latest ics with the high roll bar....
  8. last night I actually attached it in all the right location to the 78, including the lift support arms. opens and closes nicely. if I raise it up a bit to get it started, it raises the rest of the way by itself slowly... just need to get a new lock for it now....
  9. okay. the writeu was for a gen2 vehicle..... (sorry the keyboard wont work for the letter after `o` the control valve is dealer only, and is anywhere from $91 to $131 (number after 9 doesnt work either I think somebody else suggested using a dremel as well, to cut oen the end... Todd, for a Gen1, it might be easier to just ull the dash since there is less wiring.... not sure what it would take to slit the heater box though.... thats still to come on my 78 if I kee it...
  10. took an alternate route today coming home from work, and I found an apartment building with a Black RX sitting in the lot. gold trim. had "full time 4wd RX" decal on the front part of the door. had some rust holes in front and rear fenders.... paint was faded... I didn't have my cards with me to leave, but I'll be back....
  11. it was less than the cost of the Brat well worth it.... he just wants a Brat like mine
  12. I don't think there was a STD wagon... 80-81 had the large rectanglular headlights, and 82 4wd's as well. the 2wd 82 DL's had the large ones, and the 2wd 82 GL was the first to have the quad small rectangular lights.... here's the 1980 Brochure . only thing with large round was the hatch (in the gen2 body) Brat still had 'em....
  13. if the bolt snapped off as well, the remainder of the stub should slid right off... unless of course the splines are twisted together like licorice
  14. must've been about a year and a half ago, on eBay. I did see the remnants of one in a junkyard on a totalled Brat. I salvaged the 2 same louvers that I already have... so I could take the longer bottom spare louver and cut it down to fit in the middle position... gonna have to show it to the wife first, then bring up the "i might want to keep it" topic later after I see what her reaction is there is a piano hinge where the 2 pieces meet, and it has a piece of plastic over the hinge to keep it covered... that plastic piece on mine is cracked and split open, so it really needs to be taken apart and have a new plastic piece put in... needs a new paint job, and a little fiberglass fixing (very minor)
  15. I finally put the tailgate on, and decided to test fit the "Brat Lid". Man it looks great!!! Mine is black, on a silverish Brat... it's also missing the center louver, but still looks okay without it (probably removed for vision purposes, as they have a lip on 'em and would block quite a bit.... it also needs some touchup, and a good going over, but very servicable yet.... I'll try to get some pics Monday... this is what the brochure shows for it
  16. there was an XT6 at WCSS3, and I think the guy was running about 250hp, and it wasn't even his race engine.... had different cams, and welded front and read diffs...
  17. nice pics Eric. we're supposed to get some snow tonight or tomorrow, but it's still just raining.
  18. Meeky, what's the critical part of your question?
  19. having 2 different sized tires on the rear of a RX with the clutch type LSD will make the clutch plates inside wear faster, as they would have to break free more often to account for the speed difference.
  20. the wheels page is still on http://www.ultimatesubaru.org under soobs of the 80's.... all pug 505 wheels should be correct. just need to make sure that if they are 15" alloys are in fact 15" and not the dreaded 390mm wheels.... all 14" 505s should be fine...
