  1. Japanes Domestic Market. could have been an imported motor that was slightly different... never seen one, but you never know....
  2. My wife came with her 99 Grand Prix, and as long as I don't try to take it away from here she's fine... she tolerates the subarus because I could be doing lots worse things (bad past experience for her) she also tolerates them because she understands I have an illness she can drive a manual tranny but prefers not to, so now that I have the turbo brat with auto, she is okay to drive it if needed....
  3. I've pulled lots of distys and installed lots of em, and never seen a difference like that... any possibility that the engine could be a JDM variant? just throwing out thoughts.....
  4. Iowa isn't all flat..... just the big part in the middle but even then there are lots of people that wheel in Iowa. Just not many soobs....
  5. sounds just about like my 82 Brat. sat since 88 most likely. I replaced the motor, gas tank, added rear disc brakes, weber carb, lift kit, custom bumpers, pug wheels with MT tires but you already knew that
  6. starting in '80 the ea71 went to a "fat case" design that allowed the use of the same oil and water pumps as the ea81.... not asure what else though
  7. there's a few people on the board who have done the swap. I'm just trying to remember what was done. the crossmember has to be from a 81 GL Brat because it had the ea81 engine. I think therewas problems with the steering column connection to the rack hitting something....
  8. easiest thing would be to get a ea81/DR tranny combo, then the hard part to make it easy. get the engine/tranny crossmembers from a 81 GL Brat. they should fit the later engine/tranny, and bolt up to the Brat.... may still be some steering issues...
  9. When I got my first turbo brat from South Dakota, it was a 5 hour drive there, and I had a problem witha tow hook coming off, so I had to leave the brat at the guys parents house for a week, because he was moving to San Diego the next day!!! Went back up a week later with a truck and tow dolly, and all was good.!
  10. from the Wheels page... if you go with any more back measurement, you will risk rubbing....
  11. this is my personal ranking... 1. FSM (factory service manual) 2. Bentley 78-84 Manual (FSM reworded for shadetree mechs essentially) 3. How to Keep You Subaru Alive 4. Haynes 5. Chiltons I have rarely ever used a chiltons. I always consult all of them, because each is a bit different. I had a specific electrical issue, and I ended up finding exactly what I was looking for in the Bentley (and it wasn't in the FSM the same way!!!)
  12. all of the vehicles sold except for a really bad 73 tailgate wagon... (yes, there was 2!!!) one of the ramblers actually drove away from the site I believe... a friend of mine wanted the 47 plymouth, but got to the auction late.... it was the same year and color that his dad's was.... not sure what year the rambler was. I got there right as the auction started, and was busy trying to check out the soobs as best I could... plus I had a whiny/crying 5 year old with me.....
  13. for the 80 wagon, yes, if 4wd would have been a 1600 w/single range. need to get a ea81 d/r clutch cable. the ea71 tranny has the fork on the drivers side so is shorter....
  14. I'll keep looking for you guys a couple years ago, there was a 76 sedan with only 22k that sold in southern iowa....
  15. I am also slow.... have many things to get for many people. been busy at work too. day 22 without day off. will be off this weekend though, but away relaxing
  16. all the soobs were sold. initial inspection by me deemed them all crusher material. the newest one (78 wagon) had a hole the size of a floormat in the passenger side front floor, etc.... most had the normal fender rot.... and rocker rot... then I spied the tailgate! My son wanted me to get the coupe, but the floor in it were way too bad... I got thetailgate one though because it was in the best shape of them, and had an awesome basket roof rack on it. I also go the alloys that were there. one other guy (maybe 2) bought up the rest of the soobs. if they (soobs) would have been in better shape, I would have gotten them all, and tried to find a place to store them, but they were too far gone. I hope to have the 73 home in the next few days to get a better look at it...
  17. was an old guy that lived alone there... I'm guessing he drove them at some point. his place was fairly wooded, so he just parked them. 4 of the soobs were under a home built carport, the others were out. house was really ratty. would need to be burned down and dozed... would have been nice to have the 4+ acres though....
  18. the only one not headed for a junkyard will be the 73. the others had lots of issues... another guy bought the others. maybe a third guy got one...
  19. okay... I'll post pics later.... all were DL/GL line. no ff-1s 73 wagon 74 coupe 3 sedans (74-76) 3 wagons (75-78) also found a set of 4 of the 1974 Sport Mags and 2 of the shadow mags... I'm now the owner of the 73 and the 6 alloys
  20. bump. still trying to get pics.... hopefully this weekend....
