  1. Welcome! when you did the bearings, did you check the brake calipers and rotors to make sure they were funtioning properly.... usually a bad axle will present itself as a clicking, but you can get grinding noise from them as well....
  2. okay. Garage Sale outta the way. Got Grizz back in the garage last night... swapped out one of the e-brake cables. all working fine now. "fixed" exhaust. no more hitting the hitch. the 4" lift up front shifted it a bit... fixed the sloppy shifter. found sheet metal that the LF tire was rubbing on tight right turns... bent it back to where it was supposed to be... I think I "misplaced" it while putting on the lift. still need to disable the right side torsion bar, look at a potential electrical issue, ad bring down the idle... maybe put my PiperCross race air filter on...
  3. yeah, the bushings deteriorate with age, and compress, making the rack loose... I didn't replace mine, but added some strapping to the bracket to make it tighter...
  4. yeah, he (BlueBaru) moved to the far NE of the US, and he transferred it to someone he knew there to cover a debt, it was then sold to JessicaCB360 who joined the board, and I worked out a deal with her to get it back... looks like BlueBaru only put a few thousand miles on it.... and then it sat for a year and a half.... Here's the thread.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=109662&highlight=daily
  5. I've had a couple people interested in my topper.... it's on CL at the moment... I'll most likley be bringig Mountain Grizzly...
  6. I should be able to bring my big chevy now with a new engine only sweets I brought last time was raccoon food... err ... I mean circus peanuts
  7. My owners manual states I should not use it unless it is 10% max, but even then, do not use it exclusively... And if I develop drivability problem to stop using it.... I occasionally get some, when that's all that available....
  8. 26.1 is the corrected value, but I'm happy with that for Iowa gas...
  9. I had a GEn1 full skid plate modifiet to fit, but since it bolted in at the bottom of the core support on the shorter front end EA81, it wasn't quite sturdy enough. it protected the exhaust and oil pan great, but flexed "just enough" to snap my oil sending unit 2 times.... then I did this...
  10. Good point on the t-stat housing... the ea81 power steering quipped vehicles had a differet t-stat cover to allow for clearance of the rear of the pump.... if you go here Subarus of the 80s to the "Some Helpful Diagrams" link in the middle column, at the very bottom of htat page, is a drawing of the diffferences....
  11. be sure to put a good skid plate on, or do a remote oil sender set-up.....
  12. lets see if I can remember... I've done it before, but has also just swapped out entire columns... just to avoid this... remove all the plastic around the column. about 6 screws from the underside. remove steering wheel. an 85 will have 1 or 2 screws to remove from the back side for the horn button, then you sort of have to pry it off... use a deep well 17mm socket to remove the steering wheel nut. disconnect the plug for the multi-sw and caregully remove the multi-sw unit. remove the 2 screws holding the IGN electrical switch to the back of the tumbler... you should see a couple of tensioned cables with ball ends attached to the column, for the auto-spring of the tilt. you'll need to get ahold of the ball end without damaging it, and pull then free of the socket they sit in. there should be 2 or 4 bolts (8 or 10mm) holding the tumbler to the column. remove those, and you should be able to pull the tumbler assembly off the column... be carefull, and make sure the roller needle bearings inside are still there (not stuck on the column). inspect your replacement to make sure the needle bearing are intact, or you may need to transfer your old ones over.... install the replacement tumbler....
  13. add a relay behind your fuse box. have the switch in the relay powered by your IGN circuit... By doing it this way, it will act just like the 83+ soobs....
  14. I've been using my '86 Brat as a commuter this week... getting 26.1 mpg! it's got a 3" lift, and running 205/70R14 all-seasons on soob alloy wheels. rear discs. other than that, it's completely stock brat with only 93k on the clock... even the radio/tape player is stock....
  15. and I'm always looking for a couple of the 14" jackmans.... rare as hens teeth....
  16. that started in '83. prior to that, they could be turned on/off at any time...
  17. Enough with the threats against others or the "board". Stick to the facts. if you're not part of the deal. stay out.
  18. doesn't your new armrest limit the usefulness of your half door?
  19. so what are you gonna do, have a swappable body with the Justy?

  21. I took it to castana last sept. that's where I smashed my door and pillar.... I've got a little 40" x 60" flatbed trailer I'll probably take out to the campout, with my camp gear and wood. I could fit it all into the bed of the Brat maybe, but I'd rather not... I must say, I do like having a 17 gallon tank on the Brat though....
