  1. I have 3 different wood stacks I use with my floor jack... I gave $45 for mine at an auction. it was new....
  2. my local club http://www.ci4wi.org has some members that are members there too.... I'm hoping to get the Brat down to their wheeling grounds a couple times this year...
  3. did some gravel running today when I was mushroom hunting.... the less populated countied definitely have a different "finish" to the roads Should be some "good" ones around the campout area...
  4. okay. bolts are 8mm x 1.25. the stock ones took a 12mm socket for the head, but auto parts store metric bolts most likely will take a 13mm socket. the 8mm x 1.25 is the important part
  5. agreed, but that's the head size. he needs the thread size/pitch... which he can get at an autoparts store, but would most likely have a 13mm head... I'll check with my sizer today....
  6. if you're gonna go to the trouble of extending axles, conrol arms etc... you might look into just using the ea82 front axles, etc... already have a wider track.... some folks have used some of those parts while doing a 5 lug swap, so there should be some threads out there in regards to the differences....
  7. neutral safety switch under the shifter console... and there just happens to be one on EBay right now too... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEUTRAL-SAFETY-SWITCH-Subaru-BRAT-84-80-NS305-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2c54048437QQitemZ190388143159QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories to test out if that's it, turn the key to run. make sure car is in park, and touch 12V to the starter solenoid. if it starts, release, and you've found the problem....
  8. Just MtnGrizzly. smells like burning wire insulation. I think it may be the e-brake cable on the right side... gonna try and lube it up, and see what condition the oneon my 84 parts wagon is....
  9. 4 pieces of 1/4" flat stock. drilled and bolted to the stock soob rails. for the ea81 seat rails, I needed: door side 1" center 2-3/8" center console side 1.5" center 2-5/8" center short pieces to the front of the seat. both sides mount to the outside of the Cavalier mount holes. fronts straight out to the sides, backs angled.
  10. if I roll my windows down, I get a distinctive buning smell from the vehicle as I'm driving.. thinking it could be front brakes? it has new calipers, rotors, and pads...
  11. compared to either an EA81 seat with metal sticking through into your side, or even the '90 Legacy seat it replaced... yes, very comfy
  12. well, as rusty as it is, I don't know that I'll do anything like that... but we'll see...
  13. well, since the bumper is already set-up for an ea81, I'm hesitant to have it torn apart to fit a EA82.. getting into the back of the c-channel to grind out the welds would be very time consuming... now if you had a plasma cutter to cut them out... and I may want to keep the brush guard part... though I may have some other stuff here to make another one out of... you need to take the mass of plastic, styrofoam, and sheet metal off the front of your car , and get some measurements...
  14. I have a little bit of tire rub on the coilover... not enough to worry about. it's only if I make a hard right turn, and it body rolls to the left... since the torsion bar is still active on the right side, it tends to sway the opposite way... hopefully after I disable the torsion bar, it should be okay... I really don't want to go back to the heavy 15x7 steels...
  15. maybe Denis would sell a open 3.9 to you? My friend Chris could weld it for you. wouldn't charge much I don't think... I wouldn't trust my welds for that...
  16. I'd bet it was a 82 DL from the factory then. it would have had all the wiring for the centerlamp, just needed to have the relay, lamp and harness added. and all the wiring would have been there for the GL dash as well. Either way, a nice set-up
  17. plus, the wiring in the old soobs is suspect anyway from age...
  18. well, all GEn2 GL's through 84 had t-tops. DL's did not. in 85-87 all were GLs, but the only ones that got the T-tops were the Manual Transmission Brats. Auto trans GLs didn't get them. if your core support has not been modified to fit the large rectangular headlights, then it's probably an 84 DL that had the dash replaced with the GL dash, and the center lamp added...
  19. guess not... the guy didn't think he could get as much as he could from the recycler, so he took it up and crushed it....
  20. there are 2 vac lines hooked up for the push-button. sounds (literally) like you have either a leak in the hose, or one came unplugged....
  21. there's a guy on another forum I frequent who is doing a body swap in an interesting fashion. it would be the equivalent of you taking a complete body pan/suspension from the legacy, and cutting out the body pan of the hatch, and welding the Legacy pan to the hatch body... but then if you throw in the narrowing of everything, you'd then have to plit the pan down the middle, and narrow everything.... take pics
  22. yeah, the next time it leaves me, it'll probably be to the scrap yard.... here's the spec listing what I did to get it going again... new front rotors and calipers ea82 coilovers in rear with new custom mounts 4" engine crossmember and strut tower blocks lengthened steering shaft new aftermarket headlight switch fixed wiring for: -headlights -horn -hazards -center lamp -ignition switch (aftermarket) replaced missing front turn signal wire harnesses hood pins replaced heater hose beat down rear bumper to normal position tapped threads and reinstalled rear bumper ends front RooBar installed fixed wiring to thermo-switch on radiator added wiring for fog lights '84 style mirrors replaced broken '82 style ones tightened up steering column mount bolts new hazards flasher removed cruise switches (rest was removed long ago) 15" pug flat spoke alloys with 27x9.50x15 SSR Swampers still to do: new thermo switch for radiator sloppy shifter fix exhaust rattle weber tuning...
