If I had a chance to do it again, I'd do something with more than 2 seats. Maybe Subaru.

the jeep drivers must have been idiots to get stuck in that...

the tube in the pic with the shock looks like it would have been a fun bend.

it's current state...

to me it didn't feel much different without the bar, With Mtngrizz I did a lot of highway driving, plus I was always agressive in town driving and turns/curves... (Well, agressive as you could be with an EA81 ) and I never once felt like it was going to lose control... now, you have a taller lift and taller center of gravity, so you probably would feel it more. traction is king off road, and you want your suspension to allow the wheels to adjust up and down as needed. The anti-sway works to keep your suspension level, so if you compress one side, it works to keep the other in line. you'll raise the other tire off the ground faster and lose traction sooner with that tire.

clocking the torsion bar will make it stiffer, and if you ever carry any heavy loads or wheel this really hard, it could fatique and break the torsion bar. it happened on my Red Brat. I was suprised to see you put the anti-sway on the front.

Red '87 GL, lifted with EA81 Engine... the most recent picture of it from a couple years ago back when I had it the first time about 8 years ago... the last pic of it on the below page, is when it was owned by Caleb in WA before his fateful trip to Chicago, that resulted in the car going to Chef Tim and then me. http://www.indysworld.com/vehicles/1987-wagon-red/87wagon-red.html It's rusty, front subframe is nearly falling off due to the body mount points seperating from the unibody, a roof body job from 10+ years ago is cracking and falling off (big chunks), pimp red drivers seat is broken, exhaust has an issue, and the EA81 engine puffs blue smoke like a genie bottle. Tires are starting to crack, no radio. But these are getting really hard to find around here, even for parts cars, and I no longer have a spare engine for my Red Brat, and this has: EA81 engine (runs but smokes) 3" BYB lift weber 32/36 carb 5 Speed D/R modified brush guard 14" RW Gold Alloys + spare 14" pug w/tire Yakima bars with locks

there's something about the old ones... I've been daily driving EJ now for just over 2 years, and for the 60 mile round trip to work and back on the Interstate, I do like the newer better because I always seem to be rushed for time, but tonight I drove home an old friend (lifted 87 GL w/EA81), and I was so excited by the time I got home, I couldn't stop talking about stuff, and thoroughly annoyed my wife. I haven't decided 100% if I'm parting it out, but it smokes (blue) up a storm, is rusty, bondo cracking off the roof, and the whole front end is almost falling off the body, but man it was awesome!

I really like the look of the stock wheels. I think they'd look good on a Baja...

probably better off not knowing I'm gonna have to do my fronts some time as for my initial build, when I put on the v6 brakes, I just did new bearings/studs, not the full knuckle rebuild. my rear however got all new when I did the FF conversion/upgraded shafts.

I think I'm going to make a "soft cover" for my rear cage. I've got the cargo cover from the Yukon I used to have, and I think it will cover it nicely for a little shade....

sorry Bill, complete engine/acc was traded already... the vinyl floor was bad. abou the only thing I really will be selling are the alloys/tires.

in my Build thread... or the offroad forum, search for Castana. so Scott, any word on the direction you're taking?

you will need to lift before the 5 speed, as it will change how you do the shifter mods, plus a 5 speed with no lift, means some bashing in the trans tunnel....

Rarest Old-School Subaru Part or Option?
mcbrat replied to Loyale 2.7 Turbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
no, the ones on the maroon hatch were not factory or dealer... I have no idea what they were from, and neither did the seller who had hundreds of sets. he was just selling them based off the height/width measurements. I found 2 that were close to the right sizes and the same construction, but each had different dimensions that fit properly. one had the correct height and top of window measurement, and the other had the correct bottom of window measurement. then I just put the crossbars in from each set that made it an even transition from top to bottom. The only thing I had to mod on the car, was to go with a different wiper arm that was closer to the window, for clearance.... -

This set here http://www.indysworld.com/vehicles/1984-hatch-maroon/louvers-n-decals.jpg I made by combining parts from 2 different sets to match the window dimensions. some place was doing a close-out on eBay of them some years back... I miss that hatch....
