I doubt I could convince my wife to put these on the forester, but it'd be COOL!

I can do them with a logo (if you have one.. I can clean it up too). $14 each, or depending on the number needed, I can discount too....

EA81 4spd to EA82 5spd swap roll call...
mcbrat replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Jerry (Bratsrus) makes or used to make a kit that allowed for usage of the ea81 shifters so the interior looks stock, and it allows for use of the better ea82 tranny mounts... -

Are you using Jerry's kit for the trans mounts? if not, you will need to drill a hole into your ea81 mounts and put them on the ea82 trans.... -
when you do a susp lift on these, it makes the joints pull apart further, and sometimes you can hit a wear groove from prior to rebuild, if it was on the other side potentially. as the axle extends, if the ball bearings run right on the edge of the groove, it will have a tendency to fall in and out of that ever so slight groove, giving you that squirrelly feel.... oh yeah, plenty of noise before failure. popping, cracking, jerkiness...
-
sorry, I meant compared to ea81 width axles.... so yours should last longer than an ea81 axle in the same configuration.... my Brat made lots of other noises, so it was hard to tell if it was coming from axles if your axles were rebuilt ones, then there is the chance that by extending them slightly, you could be hitting a slight wear groove from prior use, and it could make noise, and make the front end feel a bit squirelly.... I always just figured axles as a wear item, and drove them until they exploded.....
-
sorry, should have been "suspension lift" and yes, that fits yours.... the "ea82 width" axles are longer, so can withstand more of a susp. lift, but will definitely wear sooner. with RX springs on my Brat, I went through them more often, but I beat the snot out of them... I suspect yours should last longer, but you'll be susceptible to aftermarket rebuilt ones that aren't of the best quality..... The MWE rear axles I had lasted well..... I never had a chance to install the front ones before I yanked all the soob stuff off my Brat.....

was it just a spring lift then?

Happy Birthday!

Dave, I tried to register on your forums, but never got the email... in regards to your fuel pump question, yes, 6 psi is too much for the hicrappi carb. I think stock comes in right around 2 psi. maybe a bit under...

Hey! just saw this... congrats!!!!

Weber Carb install has begun on my BRAT
mcbrat replied to bheinen74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it'll be interesting to see what you get for mileage... I still get about 24 with my Blue Brat with the Hitachi carb.... I've never gotten over 21 with a weber in Iowa... and that's 3 different carbs, one was brand new..... of course it all depends on how you drive it I get much worse mileage in the FXT than my wife does -

so with the headwind, you probably just had it floored the whole way to go about 60 right I got so used to just driving the Brats floored all the time, it made for some problems when I had the turbo outback, and the Forester now -
I ran a welded diff, and just pulled one of the rear axles for daily driving.....
-
I've still only just driven it down the street and back.... it still needs spring retainers in front, and exhaust. my temp exhaust is routed a bit close to some wires, so no driving around with it yet.... and it's not high priority until I get my house listed with the realtor.... but what I did drive, it rides like a lumber wagon but until I get proper exhaust on it, I won't be able to try it out properly.....
-
took some crappy cell phone pics yesterday in the heat of the day....
-
not really. waiting on some spring retainers for the front uppers before I can take it to the exhaust shop... and the front crossmember will need modified some more. (was already slightly clearanced, but it needs to be chopped more to allow full suspension down travel....) plus it still needs more brake work.... it's parked in the street now as I'm still working to get my house on the market.... and the garage is all cleaned out...

I got one of these for Father's Day!

sure.....
