  1. can either of you get to my decals site (in my sig) it's hosted on the same server....
  2. yep ask the people that rode in it with me at WCSS 7 in the gravel pit, with a Holley 600 cfm carb on it
  3. No room for it. the stock front drivers frame rail in engine compartment has been removed, and a new section added that is straight. that was to fit the Toy IFS steering box in to clear the tires. and to have something strong enough to handle the forces on the steering box. so an EJ is too wide to fit in now, and too deep. the EJ's oil pan hangs down lower than an ea81 oil pan, and There's not room for steering clearance....
  4. No. I still need to set the bumpstops, and get the spring retainers in place, but that'll be after I get the brakes done. started working on the front brakes upgrade last night, but didn't get too far....
  5. some bumper and paint pics.... I'll be painting the axles too, but after it's running and I can clean 'em good....
  6. here's the 2004 pictures.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.net/offroad/castana/Castana.html
  7. no, I've got a little hobby arc POS
  8. forgot. I also got the low pressure power steering hose installed, and a shorter fuel fitting for my vent line.... should be able to complete the fuel system hookup tonight....
  9. well, Chris checked it out, and if I use the stock toyota front solid rotors, modified to fit on the rear, and turned down just a bit, the original soob front calipers with e-brake provision could be mounted, giving it a bit more subaru
  10. I had to find a mount spot for the hill holder, because the steering linkage is where it used to sit... I got a ea82 hillholder form Bill O. and it was better shape, and the mounts are diffferent, thought the main core of the hillholder is identical... nearly. well, the ea82 one has a smaller footprint the way it's laid out, and I was able to combine both mount brackets to extend the base, and push the unit more towards the engine... clears the steering linkage, and the cable mounted perfect.... just have to get a plug for the top outlet on the HH. I usedsome flexable aluminum tubing to create a template for to MC to HH line. just happened to be one of the originals the exact length I needed, and bent it by hand, and it fit perfect.... I then rebent and ran the line from the other MC port over and down to my front upper link. I think I need to drop my tranny crossmember an inch maybe. I think my linkage is rubbing...with the lift before, I didn't bother to do anything for fitting the 5 speed in, and when we delifted it, it just went up in place, and its jammed in there it looks like....
  11. those wheels look good dirty too http://www.ultimatesubaru.net/80s/mick/gallery/redbrat3.jpg
  12. working on my brake system this week... I think I'm still on target to have it ready for the campout.... John stopped by and saw it (when he got his engine), so 3 people have seen it in person now
  13. I rolled it out and got some additional pics. will try and post them tonight.... though looking back at the pics of the bumper with it nose to nose with my 86, I don't think the pics are that much different..... I got my brake set-up mostly laid out. Hill holder will be set-up for the rears, like the original Studebaker design. Brake-lines will follow the upper links to the axles, so no worries about hyper extending brake-lines.... I ordered my flexible brake lines today. All Toyota. 4 stock '85 truck rear lines (M-F fittings), and 2 stock '91-'98 Tercel rear lines. the rest will be custom hard-lines. Need to get my fronts torn apart to put on the FJ-40 vented rotors, and the '90 V6 calipers. 11" drums in rear are still good shape, so will be using those until gone, then swapping to rear disks..... waiting for 1 fuel fitting before the fuel system is done. Still hoping to have it ready for the June soob campout in Iowa.....
  14. any update on this? I'm thinking of getting one myself for some other little things on the Brat.... don't want to do it with my stick welder ...
  15. this is a 5" lift with 30x9.50x15 on Toyota wheels with 3.75" backspacing and I had to beat the snot out of the rear of the wheel wells/footwell to get them to fit without any rub ever....
  16. there was 2 nuts and adjusters on the bottom spring holder. a lot of aftermarket struts don't have the adjustment, so not all the surviving 4wds have them...
  17. the gen2 4wd vehicles (80-84 wagons, 80-89 hatches, 82-87 Brats, and potentially the turbo traction coupes?), had adjustable front struts, to raise the ride height about an inch, and the rear torsion bar had an adjustment screw as well, to raise the ride height... the rear was accessible through the floor of the passenger vehicle, but you had to crawl under the bed for the Brats....
  18. I'll have some tools with me... well, other than you all my friend Russ may be coming as well. he's a previous mountain grizzly owner, and owner of the red '87 lifted wagon I used to have.....
  19. the hard covers are nice, but not totally sealed of course because of the louvers. I had one on a 78, and found the remnants of one in a junkyard, and salvaged a few of the louvers.... but they don't open up very high, so it limits what you can put in the bed.... People have tried to reproduce the soft covers, but not enough interest/money to make it happen..... I fear this would meet the same fate....
  20. most of the electrical is done now. made short cable for the starter, and finsihed re-routing my fuse panel feeds. put on Warn disconnects (had 'em laying around) for the winch since the original cables no longer were long enough.... figured out where to mount my new fuel guage.... I had a 2 guage A pillar pod for a mid 90's impreza that I was gonna use on my old '97 outback, so I checked, and it will work pretty well in the Brat. will need to trim one part of it. got the fuel guage installed in the pod, and decided to fill up the other spot with an AFR guage I had laying around. will hook it up when I do the SPFI swap.... hopefully fuel cell, pump, Sammy speedo cable, and custom front driveshaft tonight...
