  1. use stock clutch, but have the step on the flywheel reduced
  2. Welcome Brian! Did your parents ever sell their SUS? Did you get the '96 locally?
  3. anybody know of a good replacement washer pump for an ea81? been through 2 of them now... since July... both just died... failed seals. might just grab something from a newer vehicle, and make it work... maybe with a larger tank
  4. likewise. there's a place in Des Moines, that will just take the old shaft stuff, cut off the ends and reuse if they can, and put a new tube on it. my last one piece was $135 for the 5 speed in my brat... they just need the cap to cap measurement... http://www.certifiedpower.com/cpi_desm_svrep.aspx
  5. I did this with my red Brat after busting 2 sender units....
  6. well, if the 4 door is truly an '85, then it will have an ea82 engine, not an ea81, unless it's been swapped out before..... the last year for a 4 door ea81, was '84 if it is in fact a '85 4 door, then most of the parts you need should swap over..... if you know for a fact the body is different, then it's a '84
  7. I'm thinking you saw a misprint, or it was a custom set-up do you remember where you saw it?
  8. I think is the stock US list... the turbo guys can correct me (in order of "size" according to what I've read) ea81T = vf4 ea82T = vf7 ej22T = vf10/vf11 ej20k = td04 ej20G = vf8 ej257 = vf39 (also have seen vf3 and vf6 mentioned on some boards for the ea series...) and I found this... 9. just use the 5 spd D/R flywheel, but have it surfaced to XT6 specs, then use the XT6 clutch and pressure plate....
  10. Multi-colored Turbo Brats are the best
  11. Ben, that blower motor might be in my parts pile as well....
  12. Ben, in my pile of parts for you is a stock stereo with a harness I believe, plus there is also a aftermarket harness adapter NIP....
  13. at least it looks like a rolling 6 digits! now you just need to identify particular case casting differences
  14. For the Vanagon, yes, you would need to mount a radiator in front, and run hard piping from it to the rear... ShawnW did his first one this way, but then found a later water cooled one to start with... much easier.... for Bugs and sand rails, you'd also have to mount a radiator somehow....
