  4. 2007 Iowa Soobie Gathering/Campout Currently slated as a relaxing weekend. (read nothing else planned than camping) We only used 4 campsites last time Had 14 soobs only for the entire weekend, including a few hour show/shine on Saturday. (and 3 of the soobs were mine ) Will be working to get a few hour show/shine set-up as well, so the local NASIOC guys can come and hangout as well. They've got some pretty cool set-ups as well... Possibly a lifted Baja. We also have a Picnic/Shelter areawith 105 parking spaces for Saturday 11am-6pm. For the show/shine.... For Camping: Arriving Friday evening June 15, for 2 nights. Leaving Sunday. Saylorville Lake http://www2.mvr.usace.army.mil/saylorville/ Cherry Glen Campground - C Loop Camping Reservations https://www.recreation.gov/nrrs/Cherry_Glen_Campground/Campsite_Map/r/campgroundMap.do?camparea=9066&agency=NRRS&parkId=3120 Campsites 68, 70. 71. Are already reserved by USMB people. try to get as close as you can It looks to be around $18/night for the campground... but it's pretty nice. awesome showers. Lake Access may be an extra fee if boating. there's a scenic bike trail as well. There's really no legal off-roading sites currently in the area. Here's the thread from the gathering in 2005 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35188&highlight=cherry
  5. those are next on the list... along with some Cooper Cobra 205/60R13s....
  6. Here's the first of the only 2 public events each year at a place called Timber Ridge Ranch. It's a private members only place Normally. It's situated on 2500 acres in the Loess Hills of western Iowa, and has approximately 100 miles of trails.... This place is excellent for wheeling a soob... might have a few difficulties if stock. Updates and information will be available here... http://mw4wda.org/forum/index.php?board=3.0 and here's a link to the Ranch.... http://www.peelout.net/
  7. headlight buckets courtesy of Moosens and Sko... I reused the top inner most bolt hole, with a spacer of maybe 3/8". I just happened to have 2 of them in my soobie parts collection. they may have been the inner metal ring from the pitch rod bushings, or the top rad mount bushings.... either way, they were needed to bring the inside part of the headlight buckets out to the proper angle, and it allowed the other mount points to get close to some metal then I drilled hole into the core support where the other top mount was, and only one of the bottom mounts, and used screws to attach. then I went about hacking up the stock bezels to fit and allow adjustments... they are really ugly up close, but I'm going to be looking for some filler to clean them up.... then the fun part. the 3 prong wiring for the low beams in the round headlight style is different than for the rectangular low beams... still the same plugs, but the orientation is different. I ended up using a spare headlight plug and wires, and basically made extensions for either side, that converted the wires to the proper locations on the new plug. installed new halogens too.... the turn signals are actually marker lights for a semi.... I have a set of cool round datsun turn signals, but they'll be a bit harder to install... maybe I need a nice set of signals from a gen1/Stage 1 4WD..... the louvers are an ebay find. well, actually a combination of 2 different sets. NOS Cragar Products. bought them based off dimensions, and combines the side pieces of one set (24" high) with the wider slats of the other set... comes pretty close to the right angle. I figure it's gonna be as close as I can get without going to originals, of which I know of only one set, and it lives in CO oh, and the louvers had an area underneath for the wiper, but weren't really designed for it... I had to leave out one support bolt with rubber cap, that spaced the louvers out from the window, and I had to convert the wiper arm to a side pin mount like the front, so the wiper assembly was "shorter" so it wouldn't his the slats... I drille out the rivet from the tip of the front style, and then drilled the hole in the rear arm to fit, and riveted it there. not sure if the fropnt arm can be mounted back there. I supposed it could, but it's a larger assembly with a larger spring.... the decal wording design, I just came up with Monday, so mine would be different than the ones I sell
  8. hint: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/brats/bratcolors/80-70-spark-blue.jpg
  9. put it in 2WD (FWD as opposed to 4WD), and neutral, and you'll be fine. triple check too....
  10. where in WI are you? I have a ea82 sitting in a wagon yet at my parents house in NE Iowa (about 30 miles from Praire Du Chien) The motor turns freely, but hasn't been started in a long time. I bought the wagon for the trans, and was going to sell everything else... only 75k or so on it....
  11. finally got a new scanner.... this is the label that was on the box my Mountain grizzly decals came in.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=14817&cat=500&ppuser=3
  12. I have it zip tied to the spare right now.....
  13. you'll also want to swap the sway bar. you may need to swap speedos as well, but just for the proper length...
  14. ok. first up. 82 GL Brat. 99k. 5" lift, built engine, blah, blah, blah.... (all the off roading mods) Next Up. 86 GL Brat. 88k, 3" lift. rear discs, otherwise stock. this one is my baby, and will be my son's first car.... my daily driver 84 Hatch. pretty much stock, but some mods coming this summer.... (already have louvers on it...) and lastly, I present Mountain Grizzly. 82 GL wagon, 195k, 3" lift, all power options available in '82. rear shoulder belts from "down under" installed. this one will be for sale probably...
  15. I got it off a 70s or 80s Dodge Ram Charger in a junkyard.... for $25 on the Ram, both mounts were in body panels, and had support bars inside the panels. I used the top mount and bar after bending it to match the Brat body better, then I cut off the wrap around part of the bottom mount and just tapped some holes in the bumper and bolted it on.... for the bracket on the tailgate I mounted it 90 degrees off from how it was on the Ram. I can still open the tailgate no problem. I also had to notch out the peg that holds it together, since it was turned 90 degrees. the bar/lug that holds the tire on (with a lugnut) had the threadsrusted/stripped off, butsince they started out as larger than 12x1.25 threads, what was left of the bar was the perfect size to take a die and cut in the proper soobie threads.... rest of the pics can be found here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=979&ppuser=3
  16. you probably just have thethrust bearing which is just a pair of hardened smooth washers.... I recently had the steering rackrubber bushing/boot (opposite of pinion box) pull out, leaving the rack to "float" on one side. really weird stuff happens then.....
  17. that was my red brat "before"... I have a tall roll bar now obviously, and it's too tall for a high topper.... the way your topper looks, I wouldn't go too much higher with the roll bar....
  18. yes. the first time I replaced a strut top, I forgot the bearing on top... originals are just a flat thrust bearing, but I've had replacement strut tops that came with 2 thin washers with teeny tinyroller bearings
  19. for a 2" lift, it should be fine....
  20. this would be #3... I originally got it from another board member who went by desertsoob... DesertSoob McBrat Russ (not on board) McBrat my Dad McBrat ?????? not sure what to do with it... I need to check out the left front bearings. I just replaced, but something is still not right in that general area... and I need to redo the PCV tubing it was kinda nice having power steering again.... I might keep it around to offroad when my Red Brat is finished... thought about transferring the lift to my hatch, but I'm having too much fun with it being low to the ground
  21. here's a whole mess of pics and info..... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/brats/brats.html
