Junk yard 'whole car' policies, WTH?
mcbrat replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
definitley legal issues. there are junkyards that sell cars too, but once it goes inside, notification to the state has already occurred most likely that the car is being destroyed. places that do sell cars, need to have a proper sales license and insurance -
HELP tranny won't go in
mcbrat replied to the sucker king's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
John, do you have the pressureplate barely tightened,so the clutch can move around? I always had trouble until I just left it loose, and then tightened through the starter hole -

oil pump broke off in block, ea-81fixed!
mcbrat replied to 4x4moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had the exact same thing happen to me on a high mileage 85 hatch.... easier ifengine is out of vehicle or at least lifted. mine was stock. I basically used a big ol' screwdriver and pried and prodded on the busted off piece, continuously removing all the pieces that came off as I worked it back and forth. what's left in the block should be able to spin inside the bore, so it's just a lot of time and patience of trying to pry it out a bit and trying to spin it. I bet I worked 3-4 hours on it. came out cleanly, and put a new pump in no problem. you do have to be careful of the outer machines surface, but it's defintely do-able. re-looking at your pics, you at least have part of the piece outside the hole, so you should be able to tap on that piece to get it to spin... -
moved it. nice pics! no white stuff down here.....

ea82 dr 5-speed into my lifted wagon
mcbrat replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
only if you want to keep the interior stock. if you can live with the console looking like this http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=657 you can just redrill the ea81 tranny mount mounting brackets, and attach them to the ea82 tranny. I just followed the USRM procedure for my swap in a lifted vehicle... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49952 -

each fuse is part of a group (usually outlined in the owners manual) the way the fuse connectors are, there is one "input wire" for the group (+12V side) and those connectors are on a strip. The load side of the fuse connectors are all individuals... instead of trying to feed the whole group with the old brittle undersized stock wire, you use that feed as the power to flip a relay, which will send power from a new +12V feed direct from battery to that group. -

check out my post in this thread from ages ago.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4284&highlight=voltmeter I'm not sure it's the ACC circuit, or the IGN fed circuit. if unfasten your fuse box and drop it out enough to see the back, you will see the wire that feeds all the fuses for the rear defogger, and turn sigs, etc... old soobs have pretty frail wiring. after I did the fix in the old thread, it's been fine... 3 years and counting -
http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=11648&cat=865 I didn't do it. came that way from LegacyMax. I think ShawnW helped do it, as he did it on his before....

How did that guy out on a 4 brrl
mcbrat replied to HATCHY's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I responded on your other thread.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69300&highlight=holley I used the weber adapter, then 2 weber spacers (.5" each), then a standard 2 bbl -> 4 bbl adapter. I had to widen out the holes on the 2 bbl side of the adapter to fit the weber pattern. It ran great at WCSS7, but for daily town driving, or just slow trail riding, it was a pain because I had to keep it revved to be happy. I have put my weber back on, and it's much happier, though since I still have the 2->4 adapter, I may someday try one of the 390 cfm's just for kicks.... -
Who wants FREE GEN 2 BRAT stripes
mcbrat replied to Pooparu's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ed used the original layout as well, except his are just one color vinyl, where the originals were one color vinyl with the second color screen printed on. He also has the horizon stripes. -

Mythbusters: EA82 gearing...and a possible solution
mcbrat replied to Numbchux's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
after talking with Shawn while he was digging through the trannies, I believe the biggest obstacle is the pinion gear/shaft. they are different lengths and possible milled a bit differently on the shaft as well... -
yep, 90 was the Loyale RS instead of the RX
