  1. Thee solution is to live with it. What happened was the PB booster froze. What she needs to do is start the car and pump the brake pedal HARD with the car running three or four times. This plus the vac of the engine breaks the ice loose and she will be good for most the day. In temps below freezing always do this.
  2. Actually they are using different kinds of steels, more aluminum and other materials. There are many places where weight is being reduced as mfg's get more comfortable with new materials. Super computers are helping a great deal by showing how structure has more to do with crash saftey then mass of the vehicle.
  3. Since this is a new generation, go pop your hood. Look for the air intake snorkle. That leads to a sinus cavity in what we call the snorkus. This cavity keeps water out of the engine to a degree. I have had my car with the front bumper and then some submurged. The trick is good wires more then anything else. You stall in deep water your going to get wet and the inside of the car too.
  4. Yes the tank is not getting fresh air as it uses up fuel, so you get a vacume lock. If it is really bad you can crush the fuel tank.
  5. I love how tranny issue is linked together with this electrical issue. Test your alt output. With EVERYTHING on and engine at 1800 rpm you should be getting over 13.5 volts. Clean your batter terminals If your still not sure remove the brake light bulbs and see if it still happens. If not your charging system is border line or battery.
  6. I would question the fuel pressure regulator before anything else. Cold days things dont want to start including me. If you did not complain about it, let it go. it can be a number of things or nothing at all. Sounds like someone may have a boat payment due.
  7. It is harder to steer a PS rack without the PS pump working then a manual rack. It can be done but you have to move fluid around as well as turning the wheels as opposed to the other way around. PS has allowed cars to have smaller steering wheels, but that is less leverage and it gets old quickly.
  8. Lesson to take from this picture, hook up the tow straps and secure them before playing Titanic
  9. Cool, too bad I just paid a dealer price for one. I went to replace the one in the Justy, I have never seen such an impressive looking T-stat in my life. Aftermarket had the usual issues so i kept OE for now. It is just old but doesnt have a lot of miles on it.
  10. Why buy a starter (no starter is 80.00 brand new, you are talking a rebuild) when it is just the contacts, a simple and common repair.
  11. I have been told it is the same size as Blu which doesnt bother me one bit.
  12. Key thing is 1000 lbs less. If you do the HP per lb it had much more power, and I had both of those engines. Also keep in mind everything else back then was a lot slower too, so it wasnt that bad.
  13. 112 HP and 111ft/lb torq at 4000 rpm i personally couldnt drive that too under powered.
  14. Thats ok i lament the loss of the 1979 civic. Funny what passes for a small car these days.
  15. http://www.dustysjustys.com/home.htm Go to the exterior link and it will show them. For me specifically the Justy GL CVT
  16. I can actually see the end in sight with the Justy. He runs, I just cut off the two bolts at the cat to replace the exhaust system. For those who have never one of these, the cat is bolted onto the exhaust manifold in such a way that it is part of the manifold. I lucked out as they are studs which were squished in when hot, which should make it easy to just brill them out and replace with bolts. Blu is in the shop getting his timing belt done.
  17. I used to make wireing harnesses etc as part of prototype work. Look closely at the connector, you may have to get some contact cleaner to see it really well. The way these work is that you push the terminal into the plug and there is a locking tab that holds in the terminal. You can usually unlock the terminal using a pin and remove them for cleaning. WHat causes this is the elements or a poor fit. EVen the best sealed connectors if expanded from age and heat and vibration over the years can have this happen.
