Have a serious dilemma, need some input

One peice of advice... ONE WHEEL AT A TIME. -
You dont clean cables you replace them as the wear is also microscopic. If they are corroded that means the boot is not doing it's job sealing out the weather and technically already failed. New wires come with silicon lube that helps seal the tight rubber to the plug. For other electrical connectors you can use dielelectric grease.

Well it is late, Sears isnt open. -
I fear the tranny may be tired, but there is a slight chance the tranny code you speak of may have something to do with it. It is most likely the inhibitor switch, or what we would call the neutral saftey switch. Check to make sure the chifter cable and bracket are good. Even with topped off fluid you should be able to tell if the fluid is burnt smelling or dirty (bad). The hard start wont have anything to do with the inhibitor switch. If you think it does, just pop the car into neutral and see what happens. The other question, what happens when you manually shift the car.

Brakes are easy, especially since you have the exactly same brake (mirror image) on the other side of the car to look at. The only not so tough but unique to subaru thing is the parking brake on the front wheel (I think this has it) so you would just need to get the tool to make life easy for you (not a biggie). Discs are easy, see if you get a haynes manual or maybe someone will copy the pages for you. Suspension repairs, the priority is anything that has to do with steering or braking. -

You know, it sounds like your shifting issue may just be as simple as bad busings in the linkage, as they do fail in this method. -
There are Justy guys (including myself) looking for reproduction stickers

Not mine but it was one of our trips One trip our rescue car cant tell but one nanosecond after this Blu tore his back bumper

Lets start with the transmission How cold was it outside How long have you owned the car Do a full transmission flush, on soobies that can work wonders. Does your CEL work and is it on? Cold start issue with no trouble codes and no driveability can be the engine temp sensor. Also have you tried a full tuneup?

Things to look at Motor mounts Exhaust system hitting Transmission mount makes a deceiving noise, it can be that. Replace that tie rod btw, if it is floppy it is tired. Now does the noise go away once the engine settles back to a cruise position OR once the clutch is fully engaged How many miles Any vibration at high speed (70-75)

speedometer craps out in the cold.

Check the condition of the cable, it may be tired at the transmission end and need replacement. -

IS there any reason you can't do the brakes yourself? How is the tranny going bad. If you cant afford to fix this how can you afford another car (just asking not being critical) -
Actually at idle you would see spinning as the system is always applying at least 10% force in drive. I don't recomend the two wheel method AT ALL since it is a bit of a crap shoot if you have an LSD or not. My outback is not supposed to have one and it does (And i am the second owner with the 1st being an older lady). How many miles on it. It really just seems like a tired clutch pack as this is the only failure mode that gives zero power to the rear wheels, unless your missing a driveshaft

The outback has gotten bigger for several reasons. The competition has gotten bigger, people want bigger, and we have a lot of car... i mean stuff we like to take along with us. They are getting way over their EPA mpg figures. Funny how you use gear kicks to mentally tell how fast your going, when i test drove the CVT i was going way way over the speed limit before i realized it. The imp has gotten big enough where i am considering the 2012 imp to be a possible equivilant car to Blu. I test drove the OB and it was just too much car for me.
