  1. I'm going with the career bearing or universal joints, and your mechanic is wrong, it should be a priority to get fixed. . At the least its an inconvenience, at worst it rips out the drive drive train.
  2. In wet weather i need to use the fog lights just to see lane markings. I may have to mount driving lights or something as they are useless, and they are aimed right
  3. Reading into it "acceptable" is nothing to brag about. I always felt my 89 Justy had better headlights then my 05 Outback.

  5. Did anyone else get a letter for an extended warrenty that covers a melting dashboard from Subaru?
  6. Yes, beleive it or not its not a terribly complicated system ignition wise
  7. Also key KEY to dignosing these things replace ONE part at a time. If thats not the fault put the old part back. Otherwise things get confusing really quickly
  8. Miles? last time it was tuned up? Whe n was the timing belt changed?
  9. For grins, swap the coils. If the problem doesnt move you may have a bad ECU as the coils ground through the ECU to fire.
  10. Compression test would be warrented. You can throw a coil in it, but since it is a car your looking to purchase, I'm not sure how far you want to investigate it.
  11. How many miles on it It should start but run like crap with jsut two cylinders firing.
  12. Thanks I try Do you have the tools at hand to do a compression test? Also read up on timing marks as they can be confusing. 252K if you do the math is an odd mileage for them to do a timing belt at.
  13. SOunds like a timing belt. There is more to a timing belt then the rubber band. There are the idlers/tensioners and water pump. If they were lazy and didnt replace them the belt will jump. Timing belt failure is the car was runing fine then it wont start. The sudden unloading of the belt (with a weak idler/tensioner) will allow the belt to jump.
  14. Timing belt. It doesnt matter if your a jeep person or not all engines operate the same way with the exception of rotary's.
  15. Those are break pads for the calipers. He hasnt attacked the parking brake yet.
  16. I am confused now. Pads are on the calipers. Shoes are part of the internal drum paring brake inside the disc rotor. Are you calling shoes pads or shoes?
  17. https://www.google.com/search?q=2003+subaru+outback+rear+brake+diagram&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjD747g5srLAhXMdD4KHfl5CkcQ_AUICCgC&biw=1745&bih=868#imgrc=SiuluVYWJuuebM%3A
  18. Dont beat yourself up. If the valves hit each other it would have stopped you mechanically.
  19. The parking brake operates a set of brake shoes inside the brake rotor, has nothing to do with the caliper.
