  1. As these are 100.00 parts new, i would look into that first. Sometimes all a stereo needs is a signal the lights are on and i take that from the glove box light. The glove box light only works when the lights are on. ICM is on the knee panel drivers side i think next to the drivers knee on that cover. Use your nose i bet you will smell the remains of magic smoke. Low fuel light are you sure its out? Many an ICM has been killed buy a foolish stereo install
  2. The illumination control module breaks the car lighting into zones. Why I dont know. Is there an aftermarket radio in the car? You need a new module, get one or three from a junk yard as they are not cheap new.
  3. Doing more research a "weekender" would be cheaper and suit me too. Hrmmm
  4. I researched it well, and only the Synchro stuff is getting hard to get. A gazzillion of these things are still around world wide and and parts are all affordable ( as opposed to the Justy where im collecting spares before they disappear ). The premium for the synchro is crazy. The Westy looks bright and airy on the inside. I didnt know Astro vans had conversions, but most conversion vans from that era I have seen do not feel cheerful inside. The T3 does decently in a crash test for it's day. And I can fix it in my driveway, which is key. I sort of like Aztecs but i doubt the camping package survives today.
  5. For now looking for a runner as well, i have a killer disease, or not they still dont know. If not a project is good,
  6. Well this is (oh god please be was) a life threatening illness. i love car camping. icamethisclose to having a free A6 cabriolet for just transport costs but then it cracked it oil pan. Maybe a sign. I looked at camping trailers. Too single purpose. I started looking at Westy's, the 85-91 are tough. They look different. They have tons of storage. They are on a known platform easy parts. I would sell the Justy to aid in getting this. VW Vanagon D with a auto takes 18 seconds to get to 65, possibly longer. I dont want to do a conversion. I just want easy and cool camping for now. Camping 20 times a year is a challenge for tent and gear.
  7. Health issues aside, single after 8 years, i love weekend camping, past the backpacking years. Been doing alot of research, and i keep coming back to VW Westfelia. It will ever be me and a dog, or me and another and a dog. Lets put aside a sooby powered one for now. Ive ruled out the Deisel. I am leaning towards a waterboxer, though thats a price jump. The auto box while slow looks stupid silly in its simplicty, and everything I read doeasnt have anything bad to say about them, but has a few bad things to say about the manuals. Synchros are WAY out of my price range. Thoughts?
  8. Starter solenoid contacts. A common thing to go bad, they are serviceable. Don't replace your starter, just the contacts as the starter itself rarely goes bad
  9. Plug the O2 sensor back in. Clear the codes. Look carefully around the airbox make sure all the hoses are connected. Lets start there.
  10. I've seen one failed water pump. but it was on its 3rd timing belt and was always mixed coolant with tap water. Anything is possible, but its a longshot.
  11. What he said about the water pump. Can you do this? After using the car and putting it to bed, place a peice or several clean peices of cardboard under the engine over night. Look for drips. It is extremely unusual to do all that work and not replace the water pump.
  12. I would replace the cap because it is old, they are cheap enough and do age. When the timing belt was replaced, what else was replaced along with it? Thermostat is a good place to start too, get one from subaru, not aftermarket. Is the radiator free of debree and intact? Sometimes cooling fins corrode with age, and the radiator can clog up.
  13. You havent mentioned if the radiator cap has ever been replaced. They do fail with age. How do you know the car isnt over heating? When it runs hot do you have heat? What worries me, when was the last time the timing belt was serviced. AC is probably just a bad oring in the system.
  14. That reminds me, my owl died. I used to have an owl I coudlnt find. I cant do it myself due to my present health situation. I have a friend with the same car and same squeek, but not as many miles.
  15. The struts are only 3 years old, maybe less. Its one of the multilink busings. They have been squeeking for a while but now they are loud. Rear end links were replaced last year.
  16. I would replace the cap and see what happens. Check the overflow for leaks. Inspect all the hoses. It is possible to be leaking coolant and not have an obvious leak.
  17. I would also advice keeping one Qt of 0w in the car as it can be a little hard to find incase you need to top up.
  18. With this oil getting so expensive it may be time to work in an oil anaylsis to get a good idea with whats going on and adjust the intervals from there. Otherwise we will just have to wait it out and see what happens.
  19. Not in my 05, its a low oil pressure light, I know as I use a mechanical gauge and T off the oil pressure sender port so I still have the pressure sender and my Mechanical gauge.Or is my assumption wrong as it was mounted on top of the block.
  20. It sounds like a resistance issue. Try what ^^ said. How many miles?
  21. I generally use Mobil products, or Quaker state. I stopped using synthetic as it has gotten expensive. The Justy cant use synthetic so its cheaper for me to use dino oil. Any brand name is fine really that has the certifications.
  22. Reset the codes. Double check all the wiring connections, make sure they are all tight. Check grounds. Then let us know
