  1. Was the donor hardware from an automatic or manual. It really can be as simple as just jumping/gounding the NSS terminals. Also the car should have a NSS in it to use.
  2. The only way to check the accuracy of a temp gauge is to have a calibrated temp gauge located right next to the sensor for the one in the dash, as temp is realtive to where it is measured. 1mpg repeatability is really excellant considering how people on the outback board whine about theirs.
  3. You are a wee bit late on that timing belt, in the US it is 106,000 miles. Hope your chaining all the extra tidbits at the same time.
  4. shifting around the peak of the power curve is better then shifting after it, whiich i think for these years is after 4.5K rpm
  5. Tire sizes do change the effective rear end ratio, plus the cars are ancient for the most part. Not so much the years but the miles. the Justy is pretty much dead on (to make the CVT go faster you actually have to back off the gas a bit) but he also just crossed the 40,000 mile mark.

  8. Well you are talking cars over 20 years old with different amounts of wear. That is a huge difference and makes sense.
  9. Not really. First off you need to compare them to other cars of the same years. They were getting almost 40 compared to other cars in the day. They did not have the advanced computers we do today. If they were built today they probably would be up in that neighboorhood
  10. The flushing machine isnt pushing fluid through the transmission any harder then the transmission makes itself. There is nothing wrong with a machine flush. Chemicals however are very very bad. Do not use chemicals in transmission or engines flushes ever.
  11. The Justy is 2 PSI also. That low some damage is being done. Also if it is 2PSI at the switch, it may be zero someplace else in the system.
  12. Its been done and it takes a hell of a lot of work. I have a CVT so it is in the 12-13 second range. People do put turbos on them I think they come from Puegots.

  15. I think the noise may be the spedo head or cable, but as with all noises, if it is not sitting in my driveway I can't be 100% sure.
  16. I went through three replacement alt's in a year. there may not be so much as a problem with the car as there is a problem with a lot of crap alt's. Forget the bench testing. I had that done and they passed a failing alt. A much more reasonable and real world test is running the engine at 1800 RPM or higher and turn on everything in the car. If the output is not 13.5 volts or higher the alt is weak. Also the best load tester is the big chrome toaster type that has two jumper cables on it. It is analog and does not need any skill to understand it's gauge. I would recommend because of the age of the car, run a new ground from the engine to the battery. With age wires can become brittle and corroded. No such thing as too many grounds.
  17. The tugging sounds like a CV Joint at the very end of its life. Actually it is past the end of it's life and is still alive because there are three other wheels doing work. And Upnorthguy is correct on the rest.
  18. Hell yes a coolant sensor will make the engine run poorly. Without that sensor functioning, the computer can not tell how rich to make the fuel mixture, or when to lean it out as the car warms up. A really bad CTS would keep the car from starting on cold days. When was the last time the lubricants were changed. A 1993 would have a spedo cable (i think). You will have to listen more carefully, as there are very few things spinning behind the dash. Does the noise change when you depress the clutch pedal? Does i change when you apply the brake pedal?
  19. Does it come from the drivers side cylinder head. I cant tell from the pics but I think it is the Crankcase ventilation hose. When was the last time the PCV valve was changed?
  20. How many miles are on it? If it started at a higher speed and is slowly working its way down look at the driveshaft. This is a sign of a frozen universal joint. Next time you feel it see if you can feel it under your seat or more from the front of the car. Under your seat or the floor it is the driveshaft.
