  1. Left out those little tidbits, sure make me look bad. A much better outcome then a connecting rod bearing. i wonder why these seem to be coming up more then on other cars. Well how long untill you are due for a timing belt, that will help with an answer.
  2. Well even if you live in nebraska, eventually you have to make a turn. You may have an underinflated or mis matched tire, but yes you have torque bind. When it gets rather advanced even driving straight can be difficult on a paved surface.
  3. Flexplate noise is high pitched and doesnt go away with the remocal of fuel for one cylinder. Flexplate tends to be more of a ting ting ting and he stated it is from the front of the engine.
  4. In all honesty, That is so loud I think we are well past "how long can I drive it like this". I can tell your from experience that they do finally let loose in a rather dramatic way (read parts of engine case all over road). I would start looking for a used motor now and really not use the car unless you have too. It is just a matter of when not if at this point. Can be now, tomorrow, next week, next month, but honestly, I dont think this is one of those you can keep driving like this (very mild rod knock sometimes you can). I wouldnt let this thing rev very high or work very hard to make it last.
  5. Also the lifetime warrenty sometimes is not of the car, but of the part. Once the part fails, they will replace it once for free. Other times they are betting you loose the receipt or forget about it.
  6. NO radio shack is where you get the, Do a search many many threads on how to replace them and which bulbs to use.
  7. I have discovered recently not to order from Rock unless I am going to be able to confirm X part is the part I ordered. More then once I have gotten the wrong part from Rock and did not find out till it was too late. MOOG in general are a good source for parts.
  8. Sounds like you need to a clutch (or any associated part mentioned above) and the cable.
  9. Sounds like rod knock but seems too fast unless yuou have more then one. Pull one fule injector lead at a time and see if the noise changes pitch. If it does it is rod knock. Diagnosing sounds on the net is imperfect even with a recording, but it does have that classic hollow sound to it.
  10. Possabilitis, timing belt jumped, clogged exhaust system, clogged cat. Unbolt the exhaust from the heads and see if the engine will rev.
  11. Use photobucket (free) then just post the direct links here. Works better
  12. Er Um Well here is the Saabaru http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2005-saab-9-2x-aero-road-test Actually a really nicely equiped subaru Thats not a V-8 engine, thats a sti version-8 motor. Subaru has never done an 8 cyl, just 3, 4, and 6
  13. We love wierd projects. You are doing something no one else is, so short of a parts car not sure what to say. Mechnically it is just fabrication, the real question is the fuel mgmt.
  14. Well if we hold his hand we would have to use our other one to help him.
  15. That's what CV joints do, that is their job, that is what they are designed for. It can be just worn out parts for the rebuilds. It can be a bad parts supplier.
  16. Because labor wise it is easier to replace the entire axle. I had a 89 GL that would eat CV joints, turned out the front "frame" was giving way and pulling them apart.
  17. WHat is your email I can send you the FSM for a 1996 (same thing) on brakes
  18. HAve you tried using a vacume gauge to see if the cat is functioning porperly. You can be on the hairy edge of something failing, a vacume leak, exhaust leak etc. Sometimes you have to wait for things to get worse before you can really pin down an issue. Does the CEL go out with the cruise control turned off?
  19. You just have to bypass the ABS pump either fittings or new lines. It has been done before, though you may want to look into a used unit just to make life easier. The ABS unit is a flow through type, meaning the brakes work as if it isnt there when the ABS is not needed.
